Ch. 523"High Elves"-"Quel'dorei"

Patrick and Kael'thas finalized plans for the Northern Expedition, addressed the Night Elves gathering under Maiev, and declared that Quel'Thalas would reclaim the name High Elves. The expedition then set sail for Northrend, with Howling Fjord as its first destination.

  • Patrick proposed supporting Westfall's independence and using Quel'Thalas's fleet and Naga allies to deter Stormwind and bolster the Defias Brotherhood.
  • Rommath reported that Maiev Shadowsong and many Night Elves had moved into Eldre'Dani's Highborne Library, and Patrick ordered the council not to interfere unless they broke the law.
  • Kael'thas and Patrick rallied the elves, and Kael'thas proclaimed that Quel'Thalas would again be known as the High Elves.
  • Patrick's floating city and the fleet began the Northern Expedition toward Howling Fjord, while Tandred's forces focused on troop transport and port duties.

Ch. 524The Northern Expedition begins

As the Floating City and army began their northern expedition, Patrick tasked Onyxia with helping hatch and establish a Void Dragon force. The story left with Onyxia joining the army under Patrick’s watch, while Alleria remained concerned about the danger she could pose.

  • The Floating City followed the departing fleet north, while Illidan prepared to join it through the Teleportation Magic Circles after the army reached Northrend.
  • Patrick summoned Onyxia and asked her to help hatch Void Dragons from Deathwing’s altered eggs and establish a force under his command.
  • Onyxia accepted after Patrick explained that refusing would mean being handed over to Malygos, and asked whether she would remain a guarded prisoner.
  • Patrick said Onyxia would serve in the army until the final battle against the Lich King and would have to prove she could lead the Void Dragons.
  • Alleria warned that Onyxia might become dangerous, but Patrick said the Void Dragons would eventually be controlled through riders and that developing the force would take time.

Ch. 525Scalawag Point

Patrick’s forces reached Scalawag Point in Northrend and swiftly defeated the pirates entrenched there. After freeing the captured slaves and claiming the settlement for Quel'Thalas, he left the surviving pirates in custody.

  • Yanida told Patrick that the fleet had reached Howling Fjord and spotted a pirate harbor at Scalawag Point, so he ordered the Unicorn Burning Legion to attack without the Floating City.
  • The pirates sailed out to intercept the High Elf fleet, but Naga, Dragonhawk riders, and naval bombardment destroyed their ships and overwhelmed the settlement.
  • Salorian Dawnseeker explained that the pirates had surrendered after the assault, and Patrick learned that their leaders Harry and Terry had died in the bombardment.
  • Zagonnas showed Patrick the captured slaves, and Patrick ordered their release, offered food, clothing, and paid work to those who stayed, and assigned them to identify pirate leaders.
  • Patrick ordered the identified pirate leaders executed and declared Scalawag Point part of Quel'Thalas, while the freed slaves chose whether to leave or remain.

Ch. 526The Northern Expedition plan

Patrick explained that Scalawag Point would serve as a secure supply port, while Dragonblight would become the Northern Expedition’s forward base against the Scourge. Construction began on the island as Patrick prepared to lead most of the force to establish the second port.

  • Patrick told Alleria and Saragoss that the expedition would establish a base in Dragonblight because Scalawag Point was too far from Icecrown Glacier to serve as a strategic base.
  • Patrick described using the Arcane Pact’s navy, Naga, aircraft carriers, and Dragonhawks to connect Scalawag Point, Dragonblight, and Coldarra before advancing inland.
  • Patrick credited Alleria and the Windrunner family’s diligence with inspiring his pursuit of knowledge beyond arcane magic.
  • Patrick assigned Hui Li to remain at Scalawag Point with part of the troops while the rest traveled to Dragonblight to establish a port for the Sunfury Legion.
  • Galind Shalong led surveys and mapmaking as construction began, while pirate prisoners and hired workers took on labor and welcomed their improved living conditions.

Ch. 528The Lynx's Fury

Patrick learned from Regba that Drakkari Trolls were draining the power of several animal gods in the north and promised to help them after the Northern Expedition secured a foothold. He then led the Floating City and part of the Aircraft Carrier Battle Group toward Dragonblight while the rest stayed to guard Scalawag Point.

  • Regba told Patrick that several animal gods had been weakened and imprisoned by Drakkari Trolls who were draining their power.
  • Regba asked Patrick to save the animal gods and offered to persuade them to join Quel'Thalas, while Patrick required them to avoid Voodoo, Hexes, and altering Elven priests' bodies.
  • Patrick agreed to help once the Northern Expedition had launched and secured a foothold in the north.
  • Galind Shalong led Rangers in mapping the area around Scalawag Point, including the coast near Sorlof's Strand and the Tuskarr territory around Kamagua.
  • The Aircraft Carrier Battle Group split, with one division guarding Scalawag Point and the other accompanying Patrick's Floating City and the Sunfury Legion to Dragonblight.

Ch. 529Elder Kunani

Patrick’s High Elf forces occupied Kilva Reef and the Isle of the Ocean’s Summit to establish a base in Dragonblight. He secured Elder Kunani’s agreement to the occupation in exchange for supplies and ordered construction of a harbor as the campaign’s central stronghold.

  • Patrick’s fleet reached Kilva Reef and the Isle of the Ocean’s Summit, where the High Elves began building a permanent base.
  • Patrick refused to attack the Tuskarr who came to investigate, and he told Alleria he hoped they could help establish the camp.
  • Elder Kunani confronted Patrick over the island, which the Tuskarr considered sacred, and Patrick returned the Deep Sea Pearl.
  • Patrick explained that the High Elves planned to fight the undead and offered compensation for the island and reef.
  • Kunani agreed to let the High Elves use the island in return for food, weapons, armor, and other supplies, and he departed for Mo’aki Harbor.
  • Patrick told Shals and Salorian Dawnseeker to prioritize building a harbor, while considering the Silver Hand’s presence and the possibility of another Dreadlord infiltrating its ranks.

Ch. 530Coldarra

Patrick traveled to the Nexus to meet Malygos, the Aspect of the Blue, and discovered signs that Yogg-Saron was influencing him. The story left Patrick assessing how much control Yogg-Saron had over Malygos.

  • Patrick left Alleria in charge of the troops and told her to wait for the main forces before engaging the Scourge.
  • Patrick asked Alleria to have Higgins lead Lynx Knights on patrol to signal the Quel'Thalas forces' ties to the Animal Gods.
  • Saragoss brought Patrick and Kyrissa to the Nexus to meet Malygos.
  • Malygos tested Patrick with his pressure, but Patrick resisted and revealed that he had helped propose the Azeroth Arcane Covenant.
  • Patrick detected a trace of energy in Malygos that matched the mental energy of C'Thun's avatar and concluded that Yogg-Saron was already influencing the Aspect of the Blue.

Ch. 531Aspect of the Blue

Patrick challenged Malygos’s plan to control Azeroth’s spellcasters and accused him of being an impostor influenced by Yogg-Saron. After Malygos attacked him with frost breath, Patrick argued that the real Malygos would have used the Eye of Eternity’s power, suggesting Yogg-Saron could not fully control him.

  • Patrick argued that only Dalaran’s spellcasters had weakened Azeroth’s defenses and questioned whether Malygos’s plan was truly his own.
  • Eregos and the other blue dragons prepared to attack Patrick, but Halreen, Tarecgosa, and Saragoss stopped them.
  • Saragoss called Malygos an impostor, and Patrick identified Yogg-Saron as the entity influencing him through the Old Gods’ energy.
  • Malygos attacked Patrick with frost dragon breath, which Patrick blocked with a disc of arcane energy.
  • Patrick reasoned that Yogg-Saron could not fully control Malygos or use the Eye of Eternity, and Malygos then launched a barrage of arcane projectiles at him.

Ch. 532Rescue

Patrick exposed Yogg-Saron’s control over Malygos and used the Discs of Norgannon and soul-attacking runes to free the Spellweaver. Malygos recovered, restored the Eye of Eternity’s Titan facilities, and agreed with Patrick’s plan to protect Azeroth’s stability.

  • Patrick blocked Malygos’s Arcane Barrage and challenged him to activate the facilities in the Eye of Eternity.
  • Malygos admitted that he was Yogg-Saron, and the blue dragons realized that an Old God had controlled the Spellweaver.
  • Patrick restrained Malygos with the Discs of Norgannon and sent soul-attacking runes into his body to drive out Yogg-Saron’s corruption.
  • Malygos fell, recovered himself, and thanked Patrick for freeing him.
  • The Titan facilities in the Eye of Eternity activated, and Malygos told Patrick he agreed that they should oppose anyone who threatened Azeroth’s stability.

Ch. 533A detailed discussion with Malygos

Patrick persuaded Malygos to restrain the Blue Dragonflight and work with the Arcane Pact against Dalaran without provoking the rest of Azeroth. Malygos agreed, and Patrick set the pact’s immediate priorities as destroying the Scourge and consolidating its power in Northrend.

  • Patrick warned Malygos against purging spellcasters and making enemies of the world, arguing that the Blue Dragonflight could not withstand Dalaran and the Red Dragonflight.
  • Patrick emphasized the Blue Dragons’ small numbers, convincing Malygos that a costly war would be dangerous.
  • Patrick urged Malygos to restrain the Blue Dragons, stop drawing energy from the Ley Line Network, and present the pact as a unified political entity.
  • Patrick laid out a cautious strategy to pressure Dalaran over threats to Azeroth and destroy it only after the pact became strong enough.
  • Malygos accepted Patrick’s proposals, and Patrick named destroying the Scourge and consolidating the pact’s strength in Northrend as its foremost tasks.

Ch. 535The truth behind the Dark Titan's fall

Patrick secured Malygos’s support and brought the Blue Dragonflight into the Arcane Pact. Elune then explained how Yogg-Saron’s corruption spread through Ulduar and why Sargeras’s campaign to destroy worlds stemmed from his belief that it would eradicate the Old Gods.

  • Malygos recalled the Spellhunters, ended their control of ley line energy, and declared the Blue Dragons members of the Arcane Pact.
  • Patrick returned to Sunlight City, leaving Saragoss, Kyrissa, and the others in Coldarra to discuss the Blue Dragonflight’s affairs.
  • Elune told Patrick that Yogg-Saron’s true body was sealed beneath Azeroth and that Ulduar served as both a laboratory and an observation post connected to the underground prison.
  • Elune explained that Yogg-Saron had gradually corrupted Ulduar’s Guardians through the facility’s connection to his prison.
  • Elune disputed that Sargeras had fallen and showed Patrick that he sought to destroy every planet so the Old Gods would eventually be wiped out.

Ch. 536The Horde's plan

Patrick and Elune discussed why Sargeras had failed to destroy the Old Gods, while Thrall and the Horde’s leaders assessed the Alliance’s growing Northrend campaign and the Horde’s precarious position. Thrall concluded that the Horde needed to prepare for the Scourge without alienating Quel’Thalas or the Forsaken.

  • Patrick argued that Sargeras’s plan to destroy every planet was too extreme and might not have defeated the Old Gods, and Elune said his all-or-nothing approach had made failure catastrophic.
  • High Overlord Saurfang told Thrall that Garrosh’s vanguard had reached the Borean Tundra near Coldarra and that the Alliance had established Valiance Keep.
  • Thrall noted that the Alliance’s forces in Northrend were unusually strong, while Vol’jin warned that the Alliance was also calculating against Quel’Thalas and the Horde.
  • Thrall and the other leaders agreed that the Horde needed aerial forces to face the Scourge, and King Agmar proposed sending more Sky-Reavers and Orgrim’s Hammer.
  • Thrall weighed the Horde’s dependence on Quel’Thalas and the Forsaken, recognizing that monitoring the Forsaken with Kor’kron troops could fracture the Horde and leave its Eastern Kingdoms garrisons isolated.

Ch. 537The prelude to the Northern Expedition

Thrall ordered the Horde to seek new allies and prepare for the Northern Expedition while managing its relations with the Forsaken, Quel'Thalas, and the Alliance. In Stormwind, Varian and Bolvar prepared to send the Alliance’s main forces to Northrend and considered cooperation with Dalaran.

  • Thrall told Vol'jin and Bloodhoof to find new allies for the Horde and agreed that the Horde should avoid antagonizing the High Elf Kingdom.
  • Thrall ordered Saurfang, Agmar, and Vannok Windfury to lead the Kor'kron forces in the Northern Expedition, and told Sylvanas to land the Forsaken in Howling Fjord and join the army in Dragonblight.
  • Vol'jin explained that the landing would provoke conflict with the Alliance, bind Sylvanas more closely to the Horde, and let Krenna support the Forsaken from Grizzly Hills.
  • After the meeting, Thrall vowed that the Horde would not wait to die.
  • Varian asked Bolvar to lead the Alliance’s preparations, and Bolvar reported that Valiance Keep and the Explorer's League presence in Howling Fjord were established.
  • Varian acknowledged that the failed Outland plan had allowed Kael'thas to return and said the Alliance might need to cooperate with Dalaran.

Ch. 538Laying plans

Varian and Bolvar discussed the Alliance’s Northern Expedition, the threat posed by Quel'Thalas, and the need to preserve Dalaran. Back in Sunlight City, Patrick met Illidan and Maiev and outlined Angrathar the Wrathgate as the expedition’s primary target.

  • Varian thanked Bolvar, who hoped the expedition would let him atone for his past mistakes.
  • Varian, Bolvar, and Vice Admiral Keller discussed the growing tension between Dalaran and Quel'Thalas and the need to protect Dalaran’s floating city.
  • Varian ordered preparations for the Northern Expedition, which would first focus on destroying the Lich King.
  • Patrick returned to Sunlight City and met Illidan and Maiev, who had founded the Kingdom of the Highborne together.
  • Patrick projected an arcane map and told Illidan and Maiev that the expedition’s primary target was Angrathar the Wrathgate.

Ch. 539Illidan and Maiev

Illidan, Maiev, Patrick, and their allies planned the Northern Expedition against the Lich King, mapping their routes and assembling forces from across Azeroth. They prepared their Northrend bases and named them Dal Island and Maranor Harbor as the campaign awaited the Alliance and Horde footholds.

  • Patrick explained that the Wrathgate and Death Canyon were the only routes into Icecrown Glacier, while Illidan said his Covenant troops led by Kargath and Zuluhed would soon arrive.
  • Patrick rejected Illidan’s idea of using the Eye of Sargeras to destroy Northrend, warning that it could release the imprisoned Old Gods, and credited Maiev and Malfurion with saving the world.
  • Maiev questioned Patrick about his knowledge of her and Illidan, and Patrick explained that he was a third-generation Elf of Quel'Thalas.
  • Patrick outlined the expedition’s forces and plan to secure their rear, seize the Wrathgate, and march on the Lich King, while Illidan expressed confidence in defeating Arthas.
  • Pasareen offered to oversee completion of the camp, and Kael'thas proposed naming the Northrend bases Dal Island and Maranor Harbor.

Ch. 540Gathering

Patrick explained that the Arcane Pact united the elven factions to act together while preserving their separate interests, and that it would weaken the Alliance. He delayed an attack on Icecrown until the Scourge’s airborne forces were addressed and the Northern Expedition was ready.

  • Patrick told Vashj, Illidan, and Maiev that the Arcane Pact aimed to unite the High Elves, Highborne, and Naga without interfering in their internal affairs.
  • Patrick said the three kingdoms’ presence would help fragment the Alliance, while the Forsaken already supported the Pact within the Horde.
  • Vashj proposed gathering in Snowfall Glade and attacking Icecrown Citadel with the Alliance and Horde, but Patrick warned that Scourge flying warships could threaten their rear.
  • Patrick explained that Kel'Thuzad had not created the Scourge’s levitation technology, though he had developed constructs such as Patchwerk and commanded Naxxramas.
  • Patrick said he had contacted the Argent Crusade and outlined plans to prepare for the Northern Expedition, while Illidan welcomed the coming war and Kael'thas vowed to avenge Quel'Thalas by killing Arthas.

Ch. 541The arrival of the Silver Hand's main force

Tirion Fordring arrived in Northrend with the Silver Hand’s main force, welcomed by the advance force at New Hearthglen. The high elves and Lordaeron’s troops prepared to coordinate their plans for the Northern Expedition against the Scourge.

  • Tirion Fordring learned that the expedition’s preparations were complete and that the fleet would land near New Hearthglen.
  • Tirion reflected on Lordaeron’s rebuilding, Quel'Thalas’s aid, and the Silver Hand’s improved supplies and equipment.
  • The fleet arrived, and Tirion ordered the soldiers to disembark and proceed to New Hearthglen.
  • Abbendis introduced Liasen, who reported that the high elves had completed their port on Dal Island and that the Covenant’s main force would soon arrive.
  • Liasen and Abbendis agreed that the high elves and Lordaeron needed to discuss their battle plans before advancing against the Scourge.

Ch. 542Reinforcements

After Naxxramas devastated Wintergarde City, Tirion called for reinforcements, and Patrick led the Arcane Pact’s forces to join the fight. They reached the Scourge fortress and prepared to launch their first attack.

  • A messenger reported that Naxxramas had ambushed Wintergarde City and that Duke Nicolas Zverenhoff and Father Inigo might have fallen.
  • Tirion ordered Duane and Liasen to request Quel'Thalas’s reinforcements, then marched his troops toward Wintergarde City.
  • Patrick gathered the Arcane Pact’s forces and teleported them to New Hearthglen, where Duane told him Tirion had already gone ahead.
  • Patrick’s army followed Duane to the crossroads and spotted Naxxramas overhead, stirring the elves’ and orcs’ desire for vengeance.
  • Patrick rose above his army, activated his arcane restraints, and ordered the troops to attack.

Ch. 543Great Lich

Tirion's coalition fought the Scourge at Wintergarde City as Illidan and Patrick attacked Naxxramas and confronted Kel'Thuzad. Kel'Thuzad was burned to ashes, but he vowed to return as the Scourge forces began to flee.

  • Tirion and the reinforcements joined battle with the undead pouring out of Naxxramas, while Mogor, the Void Dragon Riders, and the Demon Hunters fought the Scourge forces.
  • Selzaran appeared at the ruined Wintergarde City and commanded the undead to overwhelm the Coalition Forces.
  • Illidan blasted Naxxramas with fel energy, tilting the airborne necropolis, and Kel'Thuzad appeared as it began to fall.
  • Patrick immobilized nearby Scourge soldiers, while Kael'thas attacked Kel'Thuzad and Patrick and Illidan joined the assault.
  • Illidan and Patrick's combined attacks reduced Kel'Thuzad to ashes, and Scourge Necromancers fled north as their remaining fighters were trapped.

Ch. 544Another Traitor

After the Coalition Forces destroyed Naxxramas and defeated the Scourge at Wintergarde, Abbendis uncovered evidence that Father Inigo Montoy had betrayed Lordaeron and become Salramm the Fleshcrafter. Patrick urged the Silver Hand to purge its ranks, while Tirion hesitated over the risk of punishing innocents.

  • Tirion Fordring, Patrick, Illidan, Kael'thas, and Vashj helped defeat the Scourge at Wintergarde, and the surviving forces burned the undead remains.
  • Tirion thanked the Coalition Forces for their aid, while Patrick called the victory the beginning of their war of vengeance against Arthas.
  • Patrick suspected that Bali Westwind had been possessed by a Dreadlord and recalled the Scarlet Dawn's future betrayal and defeat.
  • Abbendis returned with a letter and remnants of a magic circle from Naxxramas, proving that Father Inigo Montoy had joined the Lich King and become Salramm.
  • Patrick called for a purge of traitors, but Tirion remained silent because he feared innocent people would be wrongly accused.
