Background / History

Transmigration and Departure from Shrek

Before arriving on Douluo Continent, Tang San was an internet user familiar with webnovels who was struck by a Dayun truck. He awakens in Tang San’s body with its memories and abilities, but receives no system. He initially intends to follow the original story, relying on his knowledge of future opportunities 1.

That plan collapses when Yu Xiaogang and the other Shrek members reveal memories of their previous lives. They blame him for the original God King Tang San’s later decisions and demand an accounting. Tang San refuses responsibility for actions he has not committed. Yu Xiaogang dismisses him as a disciple, and Dai Mubai expels him from the Shrek Seven Monsters 1.

Xiao Wu asks him to stay, but ultimately remains at Shrek in hopes of reconciling the group. Tang San instead joins Spirit Hall through its Suotuo City branch. In Pontiff Hall, he challenges Bibi Dong’s confidence in Grandmaster’s teaching by revealing his Clear Sky Hammer and twin martial souls. Bibi Dong accepts him as her personal disciple 2 3.

Building an Independent Foundation

Tang San obtains four Immortal Herbs at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and deliberately develops Blue Silver Grass around vitality, toughness, and adaptability. Rather than copy the original Tang San’s poison-oriented development, he plans for the Blue Silver Emperor’s regeneration and eventual compatibility with the sea 5 10.

He establishes himself among Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation by defeating Yan and resisting Hu Liena’s charm. After obtaining his fourth ring, he awakens the Blue Silver Emperor and moves Ah Yin to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He then spends two years in Slaughter City with Hu Liena before completing Hell Road 8 9 12 20 21 22.

When Tang Hao confronts him over joining Spirit Hall, Tang San refuses to inherit his father’s feud unconditionally. He declares his intention to become Pope, judge those responsible for Ah Yin’s suffering, and use Spirit Hall rather than destroy it. He also considers changing the relationship between humans and Soul Beasts 18.

Wealth, Followers, and Divine Interference

Working in Heaven Dou, Tang San accepts poison-related assignments from Qian Renxue while rejecting her demand for personal allegiance. He enters the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, becomes a Guest Elder, and uses Ning Rongrong’s desire for an improved martial soul to secure access to the half of the sect’s wealth under her control. He directs that funding toward hidden weapons and his own forces 24 26 27 30 32.

Unexpected Immortal Herb growth leads him to suspect Divine Realm interference behind the Shrek members’ rebirth. Believing Asura still supports him, he begins preparing for enemies beyond his former companions. He recruits Tai Tan and the Strength Clan, gaining blacksmiths for hidden-weapon production 31 32 33.

During Spirit Hall’s hunt for Xiao Wu, Tang San openly protects her and reveals his position as the Pope’s disciple. After learning that a mysterious summons is urging her to sacrifice herself, he obtains his sixth ring from a Golden Hawksbill Turtle instead 39 40 41 42.

Acting Pope and Institutional Conflict

Tang San’s hidden weapons help Spirit Hall destroy the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan with only a hundred casualties. After he confirms that he can act against the Clear Sky Sect, Qian Daoliu approves Bibi Dong’s proposal to appoint him Acting Pope 51.

He recruits Dugu Bo, demands the Four Single-Attribute Clans’ submission, and brings Spirit Hall forces against the Clear Sky Sect. Tang Xiao eventually pledges the sect’s obedience. Tang San rewards Yue Guan with a Titan Giant Ape right arm bone, strengthening both his follower and their personal bond 52 53 54 57 59.

Tang San also challenges the Worship Hall’s independence from papal authority. His punishment of Mighty Lion Douluo escalates that dispute, while Bibi Dong repeatedly defends him. Alongside these political struggles, he undertakes Sea God and Asura trials and investigates the renewed danger surrounding Slaughter City 70 76 77 88 89 93.

Pope and War Leader

After obtaining Da Ming’s and Er Ming’s rings, upgrading his Soul Bones, and reaching rank eighty-seven, Tang San challenges Light Feather Douluo’s objections to his authority. He defeats him with the Asura Sacred Sword. Bibi Dong names Tang San the next Pope, and the assembled leadership offers no further objection 100 101 111 117 119 120.

As Pope, Tang San rescues Dugu Bo on the Heaven Dou battlefield and kills Yu Qing and Yu Tianheng. Entrusted with Jialing Pass, he assembles his Titled Douluo allies, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and the Four Single-Attribute Clans, preparing hidden weapons and poison for the approaching army 131 132 133.

He later spares Ma Hongjun and Zhu Zhuqing but orders them confined to Spirit City. After becoming a Titled Douluo, he distributes divine opportunities to his followers, giving Dugu Bo the Poison God’s inheritance and Yue Guan the Flower God’s power 141 143.

Appearance

His Blue Silver Emperor awakening changes his hair, physique, and the appearance of his Soul Rings 20.

  • Hair: Originally black; becomes dark blue with a golden sheen after awakening. It turns blue-gold when he activates Life Aspect 20 110.
  • Eyes: Sapphire-like, with golden flecks; Purple Demon Eye produces a purple gleam during use 8 96.
  • Physique: Becomes more proportionate after awakening 20.
  • External Soul Bone: Initially manifests as eight spider legs. Its evolved form resembles platinum-white spears arranged like wings, with dark-red patterns in their blood grooves 22 101.

Personality

Tang San is self-assured, sarcastic, and unwilling to accept obligations based solely on the identity of the body he inhabits. He distinguishes himself from the original God King Tang San and refuses to apologize for that character’s future decisions. His knowledge of the original story makes him openly dismissive of Yu Xiaogang’s guidance and confident in his own cultivation choices 1 2 10.

He treats loyalty as reciprocal. He rewards Yue Guan, protects Spirit Hall member Yang Wushuang rather than surrender him to recruit Yang Wudi, and refuses to abandon institutional supporters for a convenient bargain. His stated loyalty to Spirit Hall specifically includes those who awaken commoners’ martial souls free of charge 26 54 59.

His pragmatism also includes coercion and cruelty. He pressures the Golden Hawksbill Turtle into sacrifice, threatens resistant clans with destruction, manipulates Ning Rongrong through her ambitions, and violently humiliates Qian Renxue after defeating her. Despite claiming to prefer discussion over force, he consistently demands submission when his authority is challenged 30 41 45 52 53.

His attachment to Xiao Wu combines affection with calculation: he protects her against Spirit Hall’s hunt, but also privately regards her as a valuable opportunity he does not want to lose. He rejects monogamy as a personal restriction 12 39 40.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Emperor

Tang San develops his plant martial soul around resilient growth, regeneration, and life energy rather than simply reproducing the original Tang San’s choices 10.

  • Parasitism — second skill: Plants Blue Silver Grass on a target and makes it grow rapidly to restrain them 8.
  • Blue Silver Water Prison — fourth skill: Instantly binds targets in grass and water. Supports group control and can kill by suffocation 12.
  • Blue Silver Overlord Spear — fifth skill: Forms a blue-gold spear for direct combat 23 44.
  • Blue Silver Emperor Gold Shield — sixth skill: Creates a rapidly forming defensive barrier whose direction and shape he controls. Can become a surrounding sphere or imprison an opponent 42 91.
  • Life Aspect — seventh skill: Reduces all Soul Skill costs by 90%, increases Soul Power recovery speed by 200%, and distributes his spiritual power among Blue Silver Emperors. Surviving plants can reconstruct his body 71.
  • Rakshasa Undying — ninth-ring skill: Continuously restores Soul Power to its peak while he remains alive 141.
  • Rakshasa Eternal Life — ninth-ring skill: Increases all Soul Skill power by 50% and makes inflicted damage persist while his Soul Power remains 141.
  • Limits: His regenerating restraints can still be overpowered, and the Gold Shield cannot counter the gray mist mentioned during his ninth-ring assessment 110 141.

Clear Sky Hammer

His second martial soul provides heavy offensive power, enhanced by Immortal Herbs, high-age rings, and Asura rewards 5 93 111.

  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Delivers successive hammer strikes; also allows him to force a waterfall upward to reveal Ah Yin’s cave 20 106.
  • Blood Cry: The first ring’s first skill increases each successive attack’s power by 20%. It has no stated stacking ceiling within the same battle and works with Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer 94.
  • Blood Markings: The first ring’s second skill absorbs blood from enemies killed with the martial soul, permanently increasing attack power. Its recorded boost upon introduction is 10% 94.
  • Asura Sacred Sword: The hammer transforms into the sword awarded by the Third Asura God Trial. Tang San uses it to defeat Light Feather Douluo and bisect Yu Qing’s bone-dragon form 119 120 131.

Domains and Life Power

His domains provide battlefield control, reconnaissance, and pressure against opponents 22 96 104.

  • Blue Silver Domain: Available after his martial soul awakening; helps him fight through Hell Road’s Blood Bats 22.
  • Life Domain: Uses plants and other living beings as relays, gathering information and vitality across much of a forest 96.
  • Divine Slaughter’s Domain: Acquired on Hell Road and engraved on the Clear Sky Hammer. Counters Angel Domain’s effects and forces weaker opponents to their knees 22 44 104.
  • Life-energy harmonization: Removes residual conflicts between his Immortal Herbs and incompatible Soul Bones 101.
  • Sea God’s Light: Supports his trials and helps him wear down the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s lingering resentment during absorption 70 108.

Purple Demon Eye

An inherited ocular technique strengthened by Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew 1 5.

  • Makes Yan’s movements appear dramatically slower, allowing precise evasion 8.
  • Overcomes Hu Liena’s Fox Charm and causes her to faint 9.
  • Tang San states that ordinary control-type Soul Skills do not affect him 9.

Soul Bone Techniques

His Soul Bones supply mobility, positional control, defense, and additional weapons 20 42 44 101.

  • Flight: Ah Yin’s right leg bone enables flight with very little Soul Power consumption 20.
  • Golden Turtle’s Three Burrows: Creates a five-meter-radius area and supports repeated instantaneous repositioning during combat 42 44.
  • Polarity Reversal: Exchanges his position with a selected enemy inside that area; usable twice per day 44.
  • Eight Sacred Spears: Attack, block incoming strikes, and propel him through terrain. Their judgment-like power naturally suppresses evil attributes, including the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s blades 101 105.
  • Wisdom Skull: Greatly enhances spiritual power, helping him contact the surrounding Blue Silver Grass before awakening 20.

Cultivation, Poison, and Hidden Weapons

His inherited techniques and foreknowledge let him combine personal cultivation with large-scale military preparation 1 32 133.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill: His principal inherited cultivation method; its internal power provides defenses during hostile ring absorption 1 108.
  • Poison expertise: Refines medicine using his herb-altered blood and agrees to treat Dugu Yan through mixed poison 5 24.
  • Hidden-weapon production: Uses sect funding and Strength Clan blacksmiths to manufacture weapons for his forces 30 32 33.
  • Military deployment: His weapons sharply reduce Spirit Hall’s losses against the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan; he also prepares weapons and poison for Jialing Pass 51 133.
  • Foreknowledge: Identifies valuable herbs, ring sources, inheritances, and future conflicts, though the reborn Shrek members and divine interference complicate his plans 10 29 31.
