Supe Affairs Bureau, director's office, top floor.
Cate leaned back in Lucian's spacious leather office chair, her long legs resting casually on the desk as she leafed through the operational briefs submitted by the various departments.
"The director's chief secretary."
She murmured the title she had bestowed on herself, a smile curling her lips.
This position was perfect. Everyone who wanted to see Lucian, every proposal meant for him, had to go through her first. She had legitimately become a gate between Lucian and the outside world.
She picked up her phone and dialed that dedicated number.
"Darling, Sister Sage sent over three more proposals."
When Cate's voice came through the phone, Lucian was lying in bed, continuing to Copy.
He hadn't set foot outside the research institute these past few days.
"Get to the point, and remember to use my title at work."
"They've obtained all of Vought's Compound V records from World War II to the present, including the original experimental concepts, every generation of formulas, and records of failures."
Cate flipped through the documents.
"Sister Sage says Vought's research was headed in entirely the wrong direction. They pursued greater strength and speed, but couldn't solve the problems of randomized powers and infant mortality. She wants to break down the formula again and produce the perfect Compound V you requested."
"Have her continue. Approve whatever she needs."
"Yes, Director." Cate agreed quickly, but didn't hang up. "Also, seven hundred and sixty-two Supes completed registration today. Three were rated dangerous in their power assessments, and the Law Enforcement Department has already sent people to watch them."
"Mm."
"The Logistics Department requested another two billion in funding."
"Approved."
"Annie wants to requisition two transport planes."
"Approved."
Cate paused for a few seconds.
"I changed into a different outfit today."
