History

Origins and Secret Experiments

Frederick Vought founded Vought International and was married to Stormfront. Their connection to Nazi Germany becomes public when a congressional hearing displays their wedding photograph beneath a swastika flag. The same presentation exposes Stormfront’s earlier identity as Liberty and her murders of Black civilians 126 129.

Vought accumulated Compound V research from World War II onward, including successive formulas, original experimental concepts, and failed trials. Its early achievements included V1, a drug associated with Soldier Boy’s decades without aging 169 172.

The corporation secretly injected newborns with Compound V while presenting Supes as people chosen by God. Samaritan’s Embrace provided a charitable front for this work. Lucian received repeated injections after failing to manifest powers, then was placed in a Vought-affiliated orphanage when researchers judged him a failed subject 1 5.

Lucian’s Infiltration

Lucian entered Godolkin University to access Vought’s internal network, locate St. Andrew’s Mercy Hospital, and obtain more Compound V. Brink subsequently supplied database access that Lucian used to investigate superhumans and company resources 5 24.

After Lucian’s public debut as The Pivot, Edgar examined his injection records, orphanage history, and university assessments. Suspicious of his unusually clean background, Edgar assigned Stormfront to watch him 86 87.

Edgar later described Homelander as an increasingly unstable corporate asset and discussed safeguards against him with Lucian. Lucian joined The Seven while privately pursuing Vought’s destruction and the acquisition of its research 96 97 102 104.

Exposure and Collapse

Evidence distributed anonymously by Grace Mallory exposed Vought’s human experimentation and concealment of its crimes. Edgar’s initial response was to blame the deceased Madelyn, reframing the scandal as the misconduct of a former executive rather than a corporate policy 90 91 93.

Further revelations included footage of Homelander killing civilians, allegations of Compound V distribution to terrorists, and Stormfront’s Nazi history. These became central issues at the congressional hearing 114 125 126.

After Lucian altered Stormfront’s convictions, she attacked Vought laboratories and freed imprisoned children and experimental subjects. With several major Supes unavailable to Edgar, protests expanding, and its stock falling, the corporation became increasingly paralyzed 155 156.

Bankruptcy Reorganization

Lucian confronted Vought’s board and imposed a restructuring backed by force. Shareholders who resisted appealed to military, intelligence, and political contacts, describing his takeover as a terrorist seizure 161 162.

Existing stock could be converted into revenue shares in the new agency after valuation. Future allocations depended on contributions of money, resources, and distribution channels; private trading was prohibited, and inheritance required another review 161.

Vought subsequently filed for bankruptcy reorganization. Its core assets, worldwide sites, and Compound V research passed to the Supe Affairs Bureau. The former headquarters’ entertainment facilities were converted into archives, assessment centers, and holding areas, and the Vought emblem was replaced 167 168 172.

Reuse of the Vought Name

After beginning his travels to other worlds, Lucian ordered Simona and a force of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to clear and rebuild Hell’s Kitchen. He explicitly named this organization Vought International. Its later headquarters was another Vought Tower 177 211 247.

Under Simona, this Vought expanded its territorial control, maintained enhanced security forces, and provided medical care to the wounded Avengers after Lucian’s battle with the Eternals 247.

The organization then publicized Compound V trials and opened civilian sales through a monitored injection-and-registration program. It later became a central force in exposing Skrull infiltration, capturing infiltrators, conducting public trials, and organizing a worldwide bounty hunt 267 285 311 313 363 364.

Business and Operations

Pharmaceutical Core

  • Actual business model: Edgar identifies pharmaceuticals as Vought’s core business; superhero intellectual property, endorsements, films, television, and merchandise are byproducts 96.
  • Newborn experimentation: The Chosen One Project uses tens of thousands of Compound V vials annually, with valuable abilities emerging unpredictably among infant subjects 36.
  • Adult military market: Temporary Compound V is intended to create short-term super soldiers for military customers 103.
  • Research limitations: Sister Sage concludes that Vought prioritized strength and speed without resolving random ability outcomes or infant mortality 169.

Superhero Management

Vought packages its heroes around commercial roles, audience demographics, and endorsement opportunities rather than combat strength alone 23 40.

Public Relations and Concealment

  • Victim settlements: After A-Train kills Robin, Vought offers Hughie $45,000 and a nondisclosure agreement 5.
  • Broadcast suppression: Hughie’s livestream account of Robin’s death is shut down 5.
  • Stock-price protection: Madelyn seeks to suppress Translucent’s death to prevent a market collapse 32.
  • External scapegoats: Vought blames Butcher’s group for multiple losses among The Seven, concealing its internal breakdown 75.
  • Controlled publicity: Edgar offers Stormfront access to Vought’s worldwide media platform in exchange for monitoring Lucian 87.
  • Political protection: Susan Rayner cites Vought’s government and military entanglements, congressional allies, and legal resources as obstacles to prosecution 47 52.

Security and Intelligence

  • Tracking implants: Every member of The Seven receives a subdermal tracking chip with an expensive, acid-resistant military-grade casing 19.
  • Data processing: Vought identifies Frenchie from an image within twelve minutes, returning his social connections and probable hiding places 44.
  • Restricted records: St. Andrew’s Mercy Hospital is concealed behind erased public information, cybersecurity warnings, and an internal S-class database 5.
  • Conditioned operatives: Black Noir carries deeply implanted directives concerning loyalty, obedience, and killing, which Lucian later redirects toward himself 153.
  • Enhanced enforcement: The later Vought deploys serum-enhanced agents capable of rapidly subduing officials and physically overpowering ordinary Skrulls 311 363.
