Background / History
Family and Training
Su Luoyan belongs to the Su Family of Chenzhou, an aristocratic clan inseparable from the Ten-Thousand-Year Fox Manor. Her master is the manor’s mistress, who is also her paternal aunt. Both institutions invested heavily in her training and placed considerable hopes in her after she completed it 247.
Her aristocratic position imposes restrictions beyond those of an ordinary wandering heroine. Although she associates with martial artists, her family considers public familiarity with unrelated men damaging to her reputation. Wang Chong gains the Su household’s acceptance by presenting himself as her deceased brother’s friend rather than openly advertising his friendship with her 23 66.
Hunting White Chrysanthemum
Su Luoyan leaves the mountain to avenge her younger brother, who was killed by an Ice Soul Finger strike to the center of his back. After several unsuccessful attempts to corner the criminal known as White Chrysanthemum, she seeks Xuangang’s help because of his exceptional tracking skills 3.
She personally kills a man believed to be White Chrysanthemum, later identified in the investigation as Sun Yanqi. Wang Chong keeps her involvement secret and publicly attributes the supposed culprit’s death to Qin Han. His discretion improves her opinion of him, although inconsistencies in the case continue to trouble her 23 39 63.
Su Luoyan initially avoids close association with the Chrysanthemum-Slaying Alliance because of the scandal surrounding its quarry. She nevertheless agrees to help Li Qingge investigate. The discovery that several criminals use the same name eventually overturns her assumption that Sun Yanqi killed her brother 23 40 41 63.
Wenducheng is identified as the actual murderer through his mastery of Ice Soul Finger and possession of an item from the Ten-Thousand-Year Fox Manor. After receiving the recovered jade pendant, Su Luoyan summons a senior Su family official to convey the clan’s gratitude to Wang Chong 63 66.
Accompanying Wang Chong
Before learning that Wang Chong is the Prince of Yan, Su Luoyan and Lu Moniang leave their garden residence to avoid being summoned and molested by the prince. Once his identity and deeds become known, she returns to thank him for avenging her brother 55 89.
When the others depart after the White Chrysanthemum case, she chooses to accompany Wang Chong to Ba Prefecture. She warns that the great families will not tolerate his survival, recommends withdrawing into anonymity, and correctly deduces his intention to rebel when he rejects that solution 91.
During the campaign, she supplies regional information and challenges his more reckless proposals. She points out that assassinating Shi Lushan would not automatically secure his army and could instead plunge Ba Prefecture into chaos 92.
Their relationship becomes intimate after she explains that following him beyond the frontier was a deliberate commitment. Although she insists that their union must eventually follow proper rules, she rejects the idea that her family could force her into an unwanted choice 97.
Red Camel City and Provincial Government
Su Luoyan fights beside Wang Chong against Grand Consort Yueliduo during the attack on Red Camel City. Recognizing her inferiority to Yueliduo in direct combat, she intervenes during pauses to interrupt the Grandmaster’s recovery and buy Wang Chong time to replenish his True Qi 117.
Wang Chong later leaves her in charge of Red Camel City while he attends the Heroes’ Assembly. In his absence, she strengthens its defenses, builds a defensible residence, and oversees an increase in population and prosperity 125 148.
Her responsibilities expand to Shangzhou and the former White Camel Tribe’s territory, which she renames White Province. She incorporates incoming settlers and refugees while receiving substantial personnel and material support from the Su Family and Fox Manor 231 232 247.
Formal Marriage Arrangements
The appearance of women claiming the title Princess of Yan makes Su Luoyan increasingly anxious about her own standing. Wang Chong promises to seek the Empress’s approval for their marriage, and she later explicitly asks him to make a formal proposal 148 232.
She accompanies him toward Chang’an after leaving Jiangzhu to administer Shangzhou and White Province. Third Lord Jiang obstructs Gao Gun’s marriage petition, demands that Su Luoyan be married to a commoner, and has a Su family member imprisoned. The Empress subsequently appoints a marriage envoy to propose on her son’s behalf 232 236 243.
In Chenzhou, Su Luoyan brings Wang Chong to the Ten-Thousand-Year Fox Manor. He formally proposes to both the manor and the Su Family, while her master offers half the manor’s population as her dowry. Wang Chong also arranges for Kong Chan and Ku Cha to represent him, adding exceptional martial-world prestige to the imperial marriage arrangement 247 248.
Appearance
- Complexion and features: Described with a jade-like face, beautiful eyes, and cherry lips 93 108.
- Bearing: Graceful and composed in social settings; she adopts the full ceremony of an aristocratic lady when traveling with her carriage and attendants 23 97.
- In battle: Her appearance while wielding a longbow is compared to an immortal descended to earth 108.
Personality
Su Luoyan is observant, politically astute, and willing to speak uncomfortable truths. She recognizes the danger surrounding Wang Chong’s lineage and sees through his intentions before he openly admits them. Her strategic advice favors securing lasting control rather than merely winning a fight 47 91 92.
She combines aristocratic reserve with personal determination. Proper courtship, family recognition, and marriage status matter deeply to her, but her decision to follow Wang Chong is her own. She accompanies him beyond the frontier without her servants and does not complain about the loss of her usual comforts 97 148 232.
Her concern for Wang Chong can be forceful: after recognizing that his Eighteen Prairie-Fire Strikes consume lifespan, she forbids him to use the technique. She is also susceptible to his teasing, though she often recognizes his attempts to manipulate her sympathy 122 123.
Her treatment of servants reflects the Su household’s strict hierarchy. Liuxian’s attempt to refuse reassignment angers her, and she only reluctantly allows Yuzao—one of her trained personal protectors—to take the girl’s place 29 124.
Abilities & Skills

Su Luoyan is an Innate Realm expert and one of the two youngest women among the Central Plains’ Top Ten Female Masters 107.
- Saber combat: Uses brilliant, forceful saber attacks against Yueliduo 117.
- Coordinated fighting: Times her interventions around Wang Chong’s recovery periods, disrupting their opponent rather than attempting to match a Grandmaster alone 117.

Strategy and Administration
Su Luoyan advises Wang Chong during his campaigns and later governs two provinces 97 231 232.

- Military planning: Explains the strategic importance of Cloud-Gathering Mountain 97.
- Fortification: Builds stone platforms topped with wooden archery towers at Red Camel City, providing defenses against cavalry at a fraction of the cost of city walls 148.
- Civil government: Oversees settlement, population growth, and administration in Shangzhou and White Province 148 231 232.
Music and Scholarly Arts
- Music: Plays a tune associated with her early attempt to enlist Xuangang and later plays the zither to ease Wang Chong’s anxiety 3 96.
