Background / History
Transmigration and the White Chrysanthemum Accusation
Wang Chong transmigrates from a modern society into a body with extensive martial training but no accessible personal memories. He can recover and perform its martial arts without understanding the original owner’s identity or the principles behind every technique. His initial fear is that he has become the wanted sexual predator White Chrysanthemum 9 10 35 45.
To avoid recognition, he adopts scholar’s robes, changes his hairstyle, and uses makeup learned while accompanying an ex-girlfriend to a cosplay convention. His literary performance helps reinforce the disguise. With Fang Jingru and Qin Han supporting him, he joins the very alliance hunting White Chrysanthemum as its sixty-second brother 10 17.
Building a Reputation and Household
His exchanges with powerful opponents attract the attention of the alliance’s young martial artists. Chu Qiuzi reads with him and arranges a Qingcheng junior to serve as his book attendant. Su Luoyan invites him into her circle, gives him a sword, and later allows Yuzao to enter his household 15 23 28 30.
After he kills Wenducheng, the Su Family formally thanks him for avenging Su Luoyan’s younger brother. Meanwhile, constables threatened with execution over Wen Zhengming’s murder seek his help. Wang Chong recruits their sons and nephews with promises of official prospects, creating the beginnings of a personal following 66.
His defense of Pengshan County becomes the foundation of his military rise. The recruits gain substantial military merit, and chief constables who had previously ignored him begin sending gifts and young relatives into his service 77 78 213.
Reclaiming the Prince of Yan Identity
Wen Zhiwei reveals that the Wen Family raised Wen Zhengchun and exploited his fear of execution to manipulate him. Their plan relied on burdening him with White Chrysanthemum’s crimes, including crimes he had not committed. Wang Chong subsequently reclaims recognition as the Prince of Yan, although the extent of the original prince’s wrongdoing remains unresolved 80 81.
Gao Gun later explains the Empress’s part in his departure from Chang’an. Aware of the aristocratic clans’ schemes, she had hoped to let her son feign death and escape into an ordinary life. The alternative identity prepared for him was connected to the Way of Great Peace 105.
Wang Chong rejects the Wen Family’s control and prefers his chosen name to “Wen Zhengchun.” Close followers learn to address him as “Brother Wang Chong” rather than insist on princely formalities 95 112 191.
Territorial Expansion
Wang Chong develops the Wind-Treading Cavalry, incorporates surrendered soldiers, and assigns commanders to secure strategically important territory. He and Sun Mingke rout the Wild Goose Cavalry; afterward, Wang Chong replenishes his cavalry and places soldiers not selected for it into the Tailwind Army 97 100.
He captures Great Consort Yueliduo and takes Red Camel City, then reorganizes its garrison and incorporates Shangtuo tribesmen into his forces. During his subsequent grassland diplomacy, he obtains the Eternal Life Holy Church’s support for his bid to become Great Chieftain. He later holds that position within the Shangtuo Tribe 119 138 206.
The Empress appoints him Military Governor of Tong, Ba, and Yan and Grand Protector of Nine-Bend, while clearing him of rebellion charges. Although her public decree orders action against An Dushan, her private instruction is to remain uninvolved and send no troops 168.
An Dushan and the Nineteen Provinces
As his responsibilities grow, Wang Chong becomes less willing to abandon territory and followers as casually as he once imagined he could. He rejects an alliance with An Dushan despite his teachers’ advice, treating the protection of his mother as a fixed principle rather than a negotiable political interest 190 195.
After reaching Great Grandmaster, he travels toward Luoyang with a disguised party to assassinate An Dushan. He succeeds, escapes to Copper Pass, and absorbs many of the defeated ruler’s former troops while defending the pass 208 219.
By the confrontation with the Chang’an envoys, he commands several hundred thousand troops across nineteen provinces and is described as the world’s youngest Great Grandmaster. He foils their poisoning attempt and rejects the Jiang Clan’s assumption that its claim to rule requires his submission 225.
Return to Chang’an
During his return to Chang’an, Wang Chong fights the Jiang Clan, abandons his disguise, and calls the Empress “Mother.” She allows him to escape. He kills Third Lord Jiang in her presence, leaves the city with Gao Gun’s help, and vows to return openly 239 240.
His later activities include teaching Longji a spear art, visiting Su Luoyan, and receiving further support from senior martial figures. Ku Cha sends another five hundred Wudang disciples to Tongzhou and brings Xun Ba to apologize and serve him. Kong Chan then presents a Dharma-Transmission Kasaya as a wedding gift for Wang Chong and Su Luoyan 246 248 249.
Appearance
- Scholar disguise: Replaces a warrior’s topknot with a scholar’s hairstyle, wears scholar’s robes, and uses powder and eyeshadow to resemble a pale, bookish young man with weak blood and Qi 10.
- Portable disguises: Keeps specially blended makeup on his person and uses it before sensitive meetings 78.
- Unfamiliar reflection: Even after his rise to power, he remains unused to the appearance of the body he inhabits 245.
Personality
Wang Chong is sociable, quick-witted, and attentive to how others perceive him. He moves comfortably between literary conversation and rougher martial-world company, making alliance members feel welcome while impressing aristocratic women with poetry and historical discussion. He also deliberately protects his reputation, sending departing allies away with generous gifts rather than sacrificing goodwill for immediate advantage 44 106.
His apparent refinement coexists with calculated deception and severe violence. He kills resistant captives to compel submission, gives intruders false confidence before ordering an arrow volley, and repeatedly seeks to decide dangerous fights with overwhelming opening attacks. Nevertheless, he will retreat from a winnable battle if an injury would leave him vulnerable to other pursuers 75 76 108 119 154.
Personal feeling can override political convenience. He shelters Li Wantang without exploiting the humiliating terms on which she was sent to him, and protects Sun Ji’s reputation with a fabricated account. His loyalty to the Empress likewise survives warnings that mother and son may eventually become rivals for power 184 188 195.
He is flirtatious and experienced in romance, drawing on memories of numerous former girlfriends. His companions nevertheless sometimes find him unreliable despite his victories, friendships, and ability to prosper almost anywhere 71 92.

- Soaring Clouds, Treading the Wind: Integrated into his self-created Eighteen Flying Dragon Forms 63.

Fan, Palm, and Hidden-Weapon Arts
- Hundred Styles of Wind and Cloud: A Wudang supreme art usable with a folding fan or bare hands. Combines his internal cultivation, movement arts, Flowing Cloud Palm, Wind-Splitting Palm, and part of the Candle-Bearing Sword Technique 11 17.
- Flying Flowers, Plucking Leaves Hand: Both a palm art and a hidden-weapon art; requires profound internal power to turn ordinary objects into weapons 17.
- Improvised projectiles: Cuts a bow apart with a leaf and uses plucked hairs to pressure Xun Ba and attack another target 64 192 245.
- Object-Borrowing Power Transmission: Sends internal power through intervening objects. He injures a claw-wielding opponent through his sleeve and her iron weapon 75.

- Eighteen Flying Dragon Forms: His movement-based adaptation of that combined palm force 63.
- Nine-layer ceiling: Because he does not cultivate the Green Mountain Sect’s matching internal method, he cannot reach Vajra Prajna Palm’s full thirteen layers 229.
- Army-Breaking Bodhisattva Aspect: Protects him from the harmful consequences of quick-mastery heart methods 123.
- Other cultivated signs: The Mani Jewel deepens his understanding of the Nine-Headed Demon Dragon Aspect, Army-Breaking Bodhisattva Aspect, Prajna Blade, and Huayan Kasaya 237.
Spear Combat and Martial Instruction
- Mounted combat: Adapts sword techniques to spear use and emphasizes direct, economical attacks when fighting through formations 69 194.
- Force control: Uses dispersal, redirection, and precise application of force to compete against physically stronger opponents 47 220 246.
- Teaching: Identifies Jiang Wenyue’s suitability for external martial arts and teaches him the Six Qi Skin-Aspect Method and Dragon Elephant Maha Great True Force 163.
- Technique creation: Develops the Ten-Thousand-Victory Flower Spear for Longji and presents Huayan Kasaya under the name Brocade Red Phoenix. Longji subsequently expands the spear art to 108 sequences using Emei techniques 246.
Leadership, Strategy, and Literary Skills
- Recruitment and integration: Builds forces from constables’ relatives, surrendered cavalry, tribesmen, and captured soldiers 66 119 181 219.
- Military deception: Swaps the destinations of intercepted appeals to the imperial court and grassland tribes; later keeps Tai Sui Fu occupied while taking control of Huazhou’s defenses 100 198.
- Delegation: Entrusts Shangzhou and White Province to Su Luoyan and Tongzhou to Yuzao 247.
- Poetry and presentation: Uses poetry to support his scholar persona and win others’ admiration. His command of this world’s books is less complete than his cultivated image suggests 10 23 168.
