Dark clouds filled the sky, and fine rain kept falling. The air was thick with the smell of damp, sticky earth and rain.
A black Maybach came to a steady stop outside the hospital. The first person out quickly opened a large black umbrella and respectfully opened the rear door.
A tall figure stepped out. The man wore a black overcoat and had gray-blue eyes, chiseled features, a high nose, and thin lips. He had an intensely imposing presence, drawing eyes simply by standing there.
The person beside him immediately raised his arm to hold the umbrella over the man's head, afraid to let even a drop of rain dampen him.
The reporters who had long been staking out the hospital surged forward like a tide, countless microphones and cameras pointing at Fu Hanchuan.
Afraid the man wouldn't hear, the reporter at the front shouted at the top of his lungs, "What are your thoughts on Wen Yanyu attempting suicide for love after you rejected him?"
"Mr. Fu, why haven't you responded to Wen Yanyu's high-profile declarations of love online? Do you already have someone in your heart?"
"Mr. Fu! Did you rush back from abroad specifically to visit Wen Yanyu after hearing the news? Do you also have feelings for him, as the online rumors suggest?"
"Mr. Fu, is there any possibility of you getting together with Wen Yanyu in the future?"
The large crowd of reporters clamored over one another, their faces eager as they desperately tried to coax a scoop out of the person involved.
Facing the barrage of questions, Fu Hanchuan knitted his brows.
"I don't have a lover. I have no feelings for Wen Yanyu. There is no possibility of anything between us, and I will never fall in love with him as long as I live."
His voice paused. Fu Hanchuan turned his head, his gaze dark as it swept over the frenzied reporters. His voice was bone-chilling. "But that is no reason for you to wait here and try to mob a patient."
He deliberately slowed his speech, every word reaching their ears clearly and forcefully.
The naked disgust in his gray-blue eyes poured out without restraint, though who it was directed at was unclear.
The reporters froze.
Having answered the question, Fu Hanchuan entered the hospital with his bodyguards without looking back.
The smell of disinfectant filled his nose. Several nurses were gossiping out in the corridor.
"So that's Wen Yanyu in there? He's better-looking than he is online."
"What good are looks? He's just a desperate simp, clinging to that man from the Fu Group every day. Then he made a scene by attempting suicide after being rejected. Tsk, tsk. Getting so hung up on it-he's practically destroying his own future."
"I don't understand young people these days. Is all this really worth it over romance? Good thing those specialists came, or there's no telling what would have happened."
Inside the room, Wen Yanyu rested half upright in his hospital bed, his long, disheveled black hair spilling behind him.
Listening to the nurses talking outside in the corridor, Wen Yanyu looked dazed. He slowly blinked his dry eyes and took a long time to unlock his phone.
It suddenly fell quiet outside the door.
Wen Yanyu kept his head down, occupied with checking the time.
"Wen Yanyu." An utterly icy voice reached his ears.
Wen Yanyu instinctively turned his head and met a pair of eyes filled with anger.
He froze. "Fu... Hanchuan?"
His words held a hint of uncertainty.
The moment Fu Hanchuan entered the room, the words he had intended to say lodged in his throat, and he forcibly swallowed them back.
The young man in the hospital bed had strikingly beautiful features, with a red tear mole beneath his eye that looked as if it had been dotted on in blood. Nearly half his once-black hair had turned snow-white, the pale strands mingling with the black in a stark, jarring contrast.
The cold white light in the hospital room fell over him, somehow lending him an indistinct translucence, as though he might vanish from the world at any moment.
The look should have seemed a little alternative, but against that utterly pale face, it only made him seem unbearably fragile.
His gaze was hazy and lost, and the air of death he unconsciously exuded made one's heart tremble at a single glance.
Fu Hanchuan avoided his gaze, his voice suppressing anger that was almost beyond his control. "Don't disgust me with this kind of thing. I will never be with you."
"The only person you can hurt is yourself."
Wen Yanyu merely gave the man a bewildered "Mm," then said nothing more, sitting there as if in a daze.
A deathly silence spread through the air.
Fu Hanchuan pressed his lips together, then said, "Wen Yanyu, stop causing me trouble."
Wen Yanyu lowered his head. "I understand. I won't do it again."
"What happened before was my fault. I'm sorry for the trouble I caused you."
Seeing him agree so readily, Fu Hanchuan collected himself and added, "I'll arrange for someone to handle your follow-up treatment, but only this once. After this, we will have nothing to do with each other outside of work."
"I will never have feelings for you in this lifetime. Don't entertain any delusions you shouldn't have."
Wen Yanyu kept his head down and didn't answer.
Just as I thought. Fu Hanchuan's eyes darkened slightly, and he added casually, "Wen Yanyu, I only kept tolerating you before because we were on good terms."
"But if you're still going to be so stubborn..." Fu Hanchuan paused, then said slowly, "You won't want to find out what I'm capable of."
Wen Yanyu gave a quiet hum of assent, keeping his head lowered. "Don't worry. Those things I did before... won't happen again. This has nothing to do with you. They misunderstood. I won't bother you again."
Wen Yanyu raised his eyes to him. "If I bother you again..."
He blinked slowly, seeming to look at the person before him, yet also seeming to see nothing at all. There was only emptiness, lifeless and still.
"You can kill me, or have me die. Either is fine." Wen Yanyu's expression remained unruffled, as casual as if he were discussing the weather.
The air abruptly fell silent.
Fu Hanchuan stared at Wen Yanyu for a long moment, then gave a cold laugh.
He offered only a few succinct words. "I hope you keep your word."
Escorted out of the hospital by the bodyguards, Wen Yanyu saw the crowd of reporters outside and moved to approach them.
Noticing what Wen Yanyu was doing, Fu Hanchuan stopped him with one arm, his tone distinctly unpleasant. "What are you trying to do now?"
Wen Yanyu looked bewildered for a second, then pulled his hat down more securely. "I'm going to explain things to them. This has nothing to do with you. I know I've caused you trouble, and since there are reporters here, I'll clear it up."
Fu Hanchuan froze.
Wen Yanyu had already walked up to the reporters.
The previously noisy reporters had also fallen silent after hearing their conversation. Just as someone was about to speak,
Wen Yanyu reached out to adjust the microphone a reporter held toward him. "Hello, I'm Wen Yanyu. I'd like to clear something up."
"My disappearance and hospitalization this time weren't because of Mr. Fu. It was a private matter of my own. I'd also like to thank the girls who called the police for me that day."
"But this really has nothing to do with Mr. Fu. Don't guilt-trip him. He has no obligation to look after me. I was shamelessly trying to ride his coattails before, which led to all those things online."
"Mr. Fu is a very, very good person, and he's helped me a lot. I no longer have feelings for him, and I won't do any of those things again."
Rain struck his face. Deathly pale, Wen Yanyu gathered his overcoat around himself and earnestly explained to the stunned reporters before him.
"I hope you'll stop linking him to me. If you want to insult or attack someone, please make sure it's Wen Yanyu. I'll accept anything you say, but don't drag Fu Hanchuan or any other innocent person into it."
When he finished, the entire crowd was silent. Wen Yanyu handed the microphone back to the reporter.
Wen Yanyu returned to the bodyguards. "Sorry for the trouble of taking me home. Thank you."
Fu Hanchuan pressed his lips together and gave Wen Yanyu a complicated look. He was trying hard to tuck his white hair into his hat, and even with an overcoat on, it was clear he had grown so thin he barely looked human. Fu Hanchuan turned to the driver. "Let's go."
