Background / History

Origin and Reincarnation

Fu Zhiyan is not Fu Hanchuan’s brother or a separate romantic rival. He is the soul entity that split from Fu Hanchuan after Wen Yanyu’s first death. The author distinguishes the remaining half as Fu Hanchuan No. 1 and their reunited self as Complete Fu Hanchuan 165.

Acting as Wen Yanyu’s system, Fu Zhiyan accompanied him through 130 years of Reincarnation, disguising himself as a dog. Between cycles, they returned to their shared space and slept nestled together. He repeatedly witnessed Wen Yanyu’s deaths but could not overcome the predetermined plots 139.

During one mountain-world episode, Fu Zhiyan occupied the body of a character who had already died in the plot. Wen Yanyu later believed he had killed that man by feeding him fruit. Fu Zhiyan eventually revealed that he had been the companion beside Wen Yanyu in the mountains, assuring him that the character’s death was not his fault 125.

Relationship to Fu Hanchuan

Initially, Fu Zhiyan possessed Fu Hanchuan No. 1’s memories, while Fu Hanchuan No. 1 lacked his experiences from Reincarnation. This unequal access to their shared past allowed them to behave like separate people, including becoming jealous of one another 165.

When Fu Zhiyan explained the truth and opened his soul to share his plans, their memories, consciousnesses, and perceptions became interconnected. The author clarifies that Fu Zhiyan’s threatened disappearance referred to the death of his separate body—not the erasure of his consciousness 143 165.

Appearance

Fu Zhiyan’s human form is exceptionally tall, with strikingly handsome, distinctly foreign features. His first appearance pairs a fitted black turtleneck with a cold, exhausted bearing 113.

  • Eyes: Pale gray, framed by dark, raven-feather-like lashes 113 132.
  • Body temperature: Unnaturally cold, without the warmth Wen Yanyu associates with a living person 120.
  • Deterioration: Black cracks spread from his wrists toward his face, causing tearing pain; his complexion later becomes almost translucent 139 146.
  • Resemblance: His human appearance is highly similar to Fu Hanchuan’s, contributing to Wen Yanyu’s instinctive recognition and confusion 141 165.

Personality

Fu Zhiyan is reserved and difficult to read around strangers. He answers the other guests politely without revealing much, but his aloofness gives way to tenderness and longing around Wen Yanyu. Although he intends to visit only once before departing, he becomes unable to resist staying longer 113 121.

His care is practical: he notices missed meals, warms food for Wen Yanyu’s stomach, supplies hot-water bottles, and eases his pain through massage. He also apologizes when his questions cause distress, explicitly telling Wen Yanyu that he has done nothing wrong 119 127 132 144.

That gentleness coexists with an almost pathological need for control. Uncertainty makes him imagine the worst, particularly the possibility of Wen Yanyu suffering beyond his reach. His jealousy can become possessive: after hearing Wen Yanyu murmur Fu Hanchuan’s name, he kisses him fiercely while he sleeps, stopping when he sees his tears 127 128.

Abilities & Skills

Life-Fueled Power

The empowered self appearing as “[Fu Hanchuan]” gains the ability to turn his essence into a weapon capable of annihilating an existence. This power makes him the “favored one” capable of inflicting lasting harm on Jun Changmo 97.

  • Uses his life as fuel, with his soul pledged as the price 97.
  • Suffers progressive bodily cracking and loss of vitality 96 139.
  • Describes himself as an ordinary person wielding power that demands an equivalent payment—not someone capable of limitless feats 143.

Fate Manipulation and Simulation

He can perceive and adjust the threads of fate, reconnecting broken threads and addressing what Jun Changmo has left behind 97.

  • Runs thousands of simulations with the world’s assistance to find a path in which Wen Yanyu survives 143.
  • Devises a barrier-based trap: after death, his soul remnants would cling to the world barrier and devour Jun Changmo upon his return 143.
  • Selects this plan for its comparatively low sacrifice, safety, and likelihood of success—not because it offers a cost-free victory 143.

System Form and Shared Consciousness

Fu Zhiyan accompanies Wen Yanyu as a dog-shaped system and can occupy an already-dead character’s body 125 139.

  • Shares plans and simulated outcomes directly by opening his soul to Fu Hanchuan 143.
  • After their merger, shares memories, perceptions, and consciousness with his other half 165.
  • Gives Wen Yanyu an ability that Wen Yanyu later cites as protection when explaining his rescue of a drowning man; its exact mechanics are not specified in that exchange 136.

Hunting and Physical Skills

  • Hunting: Uses a bow, arrows, and dagger during the wilderness challenge; returns with five grouse and two fish, the latter pierced with wooden spikes 122 124.
  • Low-light vision: Can see Wen Yanyu clearly in the dark with his pale eyes 121.
  • Strength: Easily lifts Wen Yanyu high enough to throw rings over an obstructing wall 141.

Caregiving

  • Prepares warmed apple, noodles, fish soup, and pear soup suited to Wen Yanyu’s condition 119 126 128.
  • Secretly channels a wisp of blue mist from his wrist into the pear soup; its precise effect is not stated 128.
  • Skillfully massages Wen Yanyu’s aching legs, noticeably relieving soreness and swelling 144.

  • Plush hot-water bottles — Repeatedly provided to Wen Yanyu, including to offset his own body’s unnatural cold 120 121 127.
  • Scarf — Gives it to Jiang Wanrou to wrap around Wen Yanyu at the amusement park 140.

Relationships

  • Wen Yanyu — His beloved and companion through 130 years of Reincarnation. Wen Yanyu regards him as family while also sensing the same emotional bond he has with Fu Hanchuan; the author attributes this to their shared identity rather than love for two unrelated people 139 165.
  • Fu Hanchuan — His other half. Their initial hostility and jealousy give way to shared knowledge and cooperation after Fu Zhiyan reveals their identity and dwindling lifespans 139 143 144.
  • Duan Mufeng — Exchanges barbed remarks with him over Duan Mufeng’s specially customized bunny, a gift from Wen Yanyu 113 114.
  • Jiang Wanrou — Shares responsibility for Wen Yanyu’s care, including tending to his illness and keeping him warm 128 140.
  • Jun Changmo — The threat behind his sacrificial protection plan. Fu Zhiyan seeks a way to prevent him from taking Wen Yanyu again 143.
  • Siye — Assists with matters surrounding Wen Yanyu’s protection and the medicine delivered to him 96 97 133.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arrival on the Livestream

Fu Zhiyan joins the show as a guest from Country E and introduces his given name through Wen Yanyu: “Yan... as in Yanyu.” Wen Yanyu finds his face unfamiliar but feels an unsettling mixture of familial closeness and romantic attraction. His lifelessly cold touch deepens Wen Yanyu’s suspicions, and Wen Yanyu eventually calls him “Bad Dog” 118 119 120.

Fu Zhiyan initially feigns ignorance. When Wen Yanyu asks him to remain in the world, however, he cannot promise. He later reveals his role in the mountain-world episode to relieve Wen Yanyu’s guilt, urging him not to give up on living 121 125.

Confrontation with His Other Half

At the hospital, Wen Yanyu explicitly introduces Fu Zhiyan as his system and Fu Hanchuan as his partner. The two men exchange tense greetings, then clash over their respective places in Wen Yanyu’s life 136 139.

Fu Zhiyan eventually discloses the cost of his power: more than forty years of life have been burned during Reincarnation, thirty years remain in Wen Yanyu, and slightly more than three years remain in Fu Hanchuan. His own body has twenty-one days left. Sharing the truth ends their informational separation, and they begin caring for Wen Yanyu together 143 144 165.

Country E and Final Separation

Fu Zhiyan accompanies Wen Yanyu and Fu Hanchuan to snowy Country E. Beneath the aurora, both men wish for Wen Yanyu’s happiness. Wen Yanyu walks back holding one warm hand and one cold hand, silently wishing to keep living well 150 151 152.

Later, while waiting outside Jiang Wanrou’s residential complex, Fu Zhiyan tells Fu Hanchuan that he is out of time. Wen Yanyu is subsequently taken to Snow Mountain by Jun Changmo 155.

The later author’s extra clarifies that Fu Zhiyan remains part of Complete Fu Hanchuan. It also describes the possibility of his briefly appearing in physical form to steal a kiss, with their resulting jealousy likened to the left and right brain arguing rather than two independent people competing 165.
