Background / History

Zhou Daoyi served as Clan Leader during the Zhou Family’s early years at Nine Peaks Ridge. He placed great importance on the family’s standing among Lan Province’s cultivation families, personally leading the delegation to the Five Great Cultivation Families’ magic-dueling competition aboard his Azure Cloud Python. 34

As Clan Leader, he identified Zhou Chun’s aptitude for administration and long-term planning early. He repeatedly accepted Zhou Chun’s proposals when they carried no obvious serious risk, intending to build the junior’s confidence and commitment to the family. He also began testing Zhou Chun’s suitability as a future leader and entrusted him with increasingly consequential assignments. 70 73 78

After Zhou Zhengkang’s betrayal, Zhou Daoyi investigated the matter in secrecy and ultimately supported the decision to execute him. He later promised to exhaust the family’s resources to support Zhou Chun’s Foundation Establishment once Zhou Chun reached Level 12 Qi Refining. 80 82

While pursuing the dying Green Flood Dragon, Zhou Daoyi acquired its inner core and lingering soul, but was ambushed by Lin Hongyu and left unconscious. The encounter caused his cultivation to regress, yet also strengthened his resolve to evolve his Azure Cloud Python into a flood dragon. 100 101

He formally elevated Zhou Chun to Vice Clan Leader and named him his successor after Zhou Chun’s Foundation Establishment. Zhou Daoyi thereafter delegated broad authority to him, viewing clan administration as an obstacle to pursuing his own cultivation and Qingqing’s transformation. 137

Following Zhou Chun’s eventual succession, Zhou Daoyi stepped down from the Clan Leader position. He later became a Grand Elder after the war against the Dragon Transformation Sect, remaining an influential decision-maker in family affairs. 140 259

Personality

Zhou Daoyi is a pragmatic and farsighted patriarch. He considers both the immediate safety and long-term position of the Zhou Family, whether lobbying other families for mineral rights, concealing major breakthroughs, or supporting dangerous but potentially transformative opportunities. 46 102 224

He values merit and personal choice. His support for Zhou Chun is based on Zhou Chun’s contributions rather than family investment, and he initially refused the Su Family’s marriage proposal because he would not decide Zhou Chun’s future without Zhou Chun’s consent. 269

He is also deeply protective of family members. He personally hunted and executed Shen Han after Shen Han’s conflict with Zhou Chun, publicly displaying the corpse to deter future attacks on Zhou Family cultivators. 112

Despite his decisiveness, Zhou Daoyi carries regret over past choices and personal grievances. Zhou Chun’s determination to cultivate the Golden Cauldron Profound Manual caused him to reflect on his own lack of resolve, while his history with Lin Hongyu made him resistant to becoming her Dao Companion for many years. 139 274 306

Appearance

Zhou Daoyi is able to alter his appearance when operating outside the family’s public identity. While meeting Zhou Zhiying on Bamboo Leaf Island, he disguised himself as a white-haired old man fishing by a lake. 570
