Background / History
High Priestess and Tang Chen
Bo Saixi served as the Sea God’s representative and the highest authority on Sea God Island, responsible for protecting its inhabitants from threats such as powerful sea beasts. The Seven Sacred Pillars answered to her, while island residents treated her as the Sea God’s presence in the mortal world 39 74.
Both Tang Chen and Qian Daoliu loved her, but she favored Tang Chen. She declared that she would marry whichever of them became a god first, intending to signal her preference: Qian Daoliu’s position as the Angel God’s representative had already disqualified him from becoming a god. Tang Chen misunderstood and left to seek a godhood inheritance. Despite their mutual feelings, they never formally became lovers 39 48.
Journey to the Mainland
When Zhao Ling’s Diary Copy appeared before her, Bo Saixi assumed it was an oracle from the Sea God. Its account of Tang Chen’s corruption by the Rakshasa God and possession by the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King prompted her to leave the island. She entrusted its protection to the Seven Sacred Pillars before departing 39.
In Spirit City, she forced her way into Spirit Hall after guards attempted to molest her. The Diary Copy’s restrictions prevented her from explaining that she wanted to find Zhao Ling or discussing its revelations about Tang Chen. She instead questioned Qian Daoliu, who did not know Tang Chen’s whereabouts 43.
Mainland travel exposed practical problems her authority could not solve. Hotels refused her lodging without a Soul Master Handbook, which Qian Daoliu subsequently had delivered to her; she later lost her travel money to a pickpocket. Ah Yin persuaded Zhao Ling to let her accompany them aboard the Cloud-Piercing Shuttle 44 46.
Bo Saixi eventually recognized that the diary did not resemble the Sea God’s usual method of delivering instructions. Although she understood that she might have abandoned her post without permission, she chose to continue searching for Tang Chen. During her stay in Heaven Dou City, she also refused an invitation to become an imperial retainer 46 47 52.
Relationship with Zhao Ling
Her attachment to Tang Chen weakened as she spent time with Zhao Ling. She recognized that an uncontrollable ability of his was influencing her affection, although the diary concealed its name from her. Bibi Dong and Ah Yin knowingly encouraged her to grow closer to him 43 46 49 51.
After reading another diary entry, she kissed Zhao Ling and gave him half a month to win her over, threatening to take his head if he failed. Their relationship subsequently became intimate, and she came to regard him as her husband 57 63 71.
Zhao Ling gave her Nine-Grade Purple Ganoderma to improve her aptitude and promised to help her obtain another chance at the Sea God’s inheritance. Before escorting her home, he also gave her the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud, which she bound to herself 71 73.
Sea God Successor
The Sea God descended after sensing that Bo Saixi had claimed the Sea God’s Heart. She feared punishment for leaving the island, but his examination revealed that her improved aptitude qualified her to inherit his godhood. He revoked her previous Top-Level Eight Trials, granted her the Sea God Nine Trials, and explicitly ended her role as his mortal representative 75 76.
Without another Limit Douluo to sacrifice themselves for her ascension, Bo Saixi had to absorb the inheritance gradually. By the time only the final emotional trial and reshaping of the Sea God’s Heart remained, she chose to wait rather than ascend ahead of Zhao Ling and her sisters 76 96 121.
Motherhood and Later Life
Bo Saixi discovered her pregnancy three months after returning to Sea God Island. It continued for more than five years, with her abdomen remaining only slightly rounded during that period. She later raised their daughter, Zhao Mengyan, on the island 91 96 146.
When Zhao Ling told her that he had killed Tang Chen in Slaughter City, she discarded Tang Chen’s token and affirmed that she loved only her husband. Years later, she refused to meet Clear Sky Sect members seeking help to rescue Tang Chen and ordered the Sacred Pillars to drive them away 96 150 153.
She anticipated moving with her family to Zhao Ling’s planned New Divine Realm. After his five-year seclusion, she reunited with both him and Mengyan. Later, fifteen months of accelerated cultivation with Zhao Ling brought her Sea Law mastery beyond that of the reigning Sea God, although she still deferred ascension 150 153 180.
Appearance
- Hair: Long, ocean-blue hair, distinctive enough to make her easily recognizable on the mainland 39 51.
- Bearing: Noble, elegant, and gentle; she resumes a commanding High Priestess’s dignity when addressing the Sacred Pillars 39 74.
- Beauty: Zhao Ling considers her appearance and bearing comparable to Bibi Dong’s and Ah Yin’s 43.
Personality
Bo Saixi’s devotion to the Sea God initially shapes her interpretation of unfamiliar events. She attributes the Diary Copy to an oracle and later wonders whether Zhao Ling’s system is the Sea God himself. Her faith also makes her deeply fearful of punishment when she realizes she may have left the island without authorization 39 47 49 75.
Her responsibilities can conflict with her personal attachments. Although she understands the danger of leaving Sea God Island unprotected, concern for Tang Chen persuades her to remain on the mainland. She nevertheless delegates protection to the Sacred Pillars and immediately asks about the island’s safety upon returning 39 47 74.
She is affectionate with Zhao Ling but proud and forceful toward outsiders. Her protectiveness can become severe: after learning that villagers had offended him, she summons a storm over their settlement. With her daughter, she is more openly anxious, worrying when Zhao Ling proposes taking Mengyan far from the island 74 146.
