Personality

Nezuko’s attachment to Tanjiro survives her transformation. During their first encounter with Giyu, she responds to her brother’s distress with tears and later shields him instead of feeding on him. At Mount Natagumo, she again refuses to abandon him, lingering nearby after he tells her to escape and circling anxiously when he collapses 3 25.

She is curious and playful around Lu You. After watching his cutting technique, she presses her fingers together and taps the air as though copying him. When he later asks her to demonstrate her abilities before Muzan, she wonders whether he wants her to perform a somersault 6 30.

Her restraint is exceptional but not effortless: she nearly awakens her murderous demonic nature during the battle against Rui. Nevertheless, Tanjiro maintains that she has never eaten anyone, while Tamayo credits her willpower with overcoming Muzan’s control 24 25 26.

History

Family Tragedy and Protection

A demon kills Nezuko’s family while she survives as a newly transformed demon. When Giyu Tomioka attempts to execute her, Lu You intervenes and offers to protect her at the cost of his own life. Nezuko’s decision to defend Tanjiro shakes Giyu’s certainty that she must be killed 3.

After Tanjiro buries their family, the siblings travel with Lu You to Mount Sagiri. There, Urokodaki takes Tanjiro away for testing while Nezuko remains in Lu You’s care. Urokodaki later prepares a bed for her at his house 4 5 6.

Search for a Cure

Nezuko accompanies Tanjiro on his missions after he leaves Mount Sagiri. In Tokyo, the siblings earn Tamayo’s trust, and she identifies Nezuko’s transformation as unusual. She requests blood from a Twelve Kizuki-level demon to advance her research into restoring demons to humanity 24.

At Mount Natagumo, Giyu protects the siblings from Shinobu Kocho and Sanemi Shinazugawa after defeating Rui. Shinobu eventually withdraws upon learning that Lu You trusts them, and Kagaya orders both siblings brought safely to headquarters 24 25.

Lu You subsequently brings Tamayo to headquarters to collaborate with Shinobu. Nezuko remains under Shinobu’s care while Lu You and Tanjiro hunt Gyokko; blood collected after his defeat is delivered to the two medical researchers 26 29.

Sunlight and the Final Battle

During the months of intensive training, Nezuko conquers sunlight. Lu You then takes her outside headquarters and displays her immunity through a Lower Rank demon whose senses Muzan is observing. He challenges Muzan to a meeting while warning that Nezuko may soon become human again 29 30.

Muzan mobilizes his demons rather than risk losing her. At the Valley of the End, Lu You entrusts Nezuko to Urokodaki, who leads her toward the valley’s edge while the prepared ambush awaits the approaching demons. Her whereabouts draw Muzan into the trap, but she is removed from the confrontation itself 30 31.

Return to Human Life

Nezuko receives Demon Transformation Medicine when Urokodaki takes her away and is confirmed human by the battle’s aftermath. With Muzan dead and the Corps disbanded, she returns to Mount Kumotori with Tanjiro. Years later, she accompanies Tanjiro and Kanao on a visit to Lu You’s grave 41.
