Background / History

Childhood with Yin Zhengchuan

Fang Mian grew up with Yin Zhengchuan. According to Qin Qin, he used to cry after losing their childhood competitions, which included climbing trees, scaling walls, spinning in place, and drinking water upside down. When Yin Zhengchuan was nineteen, the two also sneaked out to bars together despite his father’s prohibition 106 144.

Yin Zhengchuan and Wei Zisu’s Wedding

Fang Mian learned about the approaching wedding after noticing Yin Zhengchuan’s WeChat nickname, “12 days to go.” Having been single for over twenty years, he found it unfair—and difficult to believe—that his friend was marrying someone as beautiful as Wei Zisu 30.

On the wedding morning, Fang Mian joined Yin Baozhu, Yin Yaoyang, and Xiao Qian on Wei Zisu’s side of the door games. He hid one wedding shoe on top of the alcove bed and the other beneath Wei Zisu’s horse-face pleated skirt. His challenge required Yin Zhengchuan to express his feelings through a song, revealing that his childhood friend could not sing in tune 46 47.

At the banquet, a half-drunk Fang Mian privately offered to lend Yin Zhengchuan S&M props. When Yin Zhengchuan loudly asked what that meant, Wei Zisu supplied a joking explanation involving money. Fang Mian accepted the escape route and promised to add another twenty thousand to the wedding gift ledger 47.

Friendship with the Yin Household

Fang Mian continued calling Yin Zhengchuan and inviting him out after the wedding. During one conversation, Yin Zhengchuan complained that Wei Zisu would not spend his money and described expressing his displeasure through minor omissions in the housework. Fang Mian dubbed this behavior “washing underwear with a stony face” 126.

After losing five chess games to Gu Ziran, Fang Mian suggested entering him in a city-level competition organized by a chess club to which his eldest uncle belonged. Gu Ziran agreed because he wanted to win a medal for Qin Qin 144.

Shortly afterward, Fang Mian encountered Sun Zhe attacking Yin Baozhu and trying to take Gu Ziran away. He charged headfirst into Sun Zhe’s chest, shielded Baozhu and Ziran, and shouted for villagers to help, forcing Sun Zhe to flee 145.

Snow Games and the Anime Convention

During a snowfall, Fang Mian helped Yin Baozhu and Gu Ziran roll snowballs and organized an ambush to wake Yin Zhengchuan. His friend retaliated by chasing him down and stuffing snow into his pants 191.

At the village square, Fang Mian insisted on testing a snow slide despite not helping build it. Yin Zhengchuan’s shove sent him bouncing down nearby steps. His subsequent attempt to shake snow onto Yin Zhengchuan by kicking a tree also backfired: his foot slipped, he fell into a split, and his trousers tore 192.

Envious of Gu Ziran’s popularity at conventions, Fang Mian persuaded Yin Baozhu to prepare his cosplay and makeup. His white costume, wig, golden willow switch, and Baozhu-mandated cat ears attracted attention—but also a group of black-clad cosplayers who carried him bridal-style and chased him while calling him “Master” 192 193.

Gu Ziran’s Rescue

When Gu Ziran disappeared from the convention, Fang Mian immediately helped organize the search. He accompanied Yin Zhengchuan in following the tracker hidden in Ziran’s badge to an abandoned building 193 194 195.

The two found four kidnappers inside. Fang Mian took on the thinnest man, but their fight devolved into mutual hair-pulling until Yin Zhengchuan intervened. After Yin Zhengchuan reached Gu Ziran in the basement, Fang Mian carried him upstairs on his back, leaving Yin Zhengchuan to confront Sun Zhe 195.

Personality

Fang Mian is playful, competitive, and easily drawn into mischief. His childhood habit of crying over defeats persists into adulthood when Gu Ziran repeatedly beats him at chess. He also enjoys provoking Yin Zhengchuan, whether through wedding challenges, teasing phone calls, or snowball ambushes 47 126 144 191.

Despite his clowning, he reacts decisively when his friends are endangered. He intervenes immediately during Sun Zhe’s first attack and later enters the kidnappers’ hideout with Yin Zhengchuan. Yin Zhengchuan considers him occasionally obnoxious but not genuinely sleazy 145 176 195.
