Jaw Giants

In the clearing outside the tents, Modun stood in the center, with two Pure Titans beside him.

Morton glanced at the Pure Titans beside him and recalled what Eren had said earlier: during his first transformation, he would very likely lose consciousness and go berserk. If that happened, the Giant he transformed into would have to exhaust its strength.

The two Pure Titans beside him had also been stationed there to stop him if he went berserk.

Modun cut his palm with a small knife and focused intensely on transforming into a Giant. A bolt of yellow lightning struck, and a ball of yellow light flashed past.

As Modun transformed, Eren entered the Coordinate Space, sculpted a Giant body for him there, then sent it out to him through the Coordinate.

In the clearing, the smoke dispersed, revealing a huge figure crouched with both hands braced against the ground.

This Giant stood twelve meters tall, wore a mask over its head, and possessed enormous upper and lower jaws with astonishing biting force. The Jaw Giants could even bite through the War Hammer Titan's protective crystal, earning them the joking nickname of "bottle openers."

According to the manga's setting, successive Jaw Giants were generally small, the most agile of the Nine Giants, and usually stood between five and seven meters tall. Eren had specially customized Modun's twelve-meter body. After all, a transformation between five and seven meters tall would not be much help to him, because it was too short. In a world where dragons and even White Walkers would appear in the future, something five to seven meters tall posed too little threat, but making it too tall would reduce the Jaw Titan's agility.

So Eren had only doubled his height, preserving as much of the Jaw Titan's agility and speed as possible while making him somewhat taller and increasing the area over which he could inflict damage.

Eren watched the Jaw Titan roaring and flailing before him. It seemed Modun had inevitably gone berserk after all, so he ordered the two Giants beside him to walk over. Each delivered a huge slap, knocking the Jaw Titan to the ground, then the two Pure Titans each restrained one side and pinned him down.

Watching the Jaw Titan endlessly flail and roar, trying to rise and fight back only to be forced down again by the two Giants, Eren found the scene comical.

As Modun's strength ran out, the Jaw Titan stopped flailing and his transformation ended. Eren had the two Pure Titans move away and watched Modun emerge from the Jaw Titan's nape with a bewildered expression before passing out.

When Modun woke, he found himself lying on the floor of a tent. Eren was beside him, drinking wine and eating meat. Seeing that Modun was awake, he said:

"You're awake. It's noon now. You've been asleep for three hours. How did it feel to transform into a Giant?"

Modun shook his head, which still felt groggy, and asked with some confusion:

"Where am I? Did I just turn into a Giant? I feel like I had a very long dream."

Seeing that Modun had yet to recover from the aftereffects of his first Giant transformation, Eren said:

"This is your tent. I had someone bring you here. It was your first time transforming into a Giant, so you aren't proficient at it yet. It'll be fine once you've mastered it. Over the next few days, I'll thoroughly train your ability to transform into a Giant."

Eren paused and took a sip of wine, then said, "The Giant you transform into is called a Jaw Giant. It possesses powerful jumping ability and speed, enormous upper and lower jaws, and astonishing biting force. No city wall or brick can stop you. You might even be able to bite through one of those fabled Valyrian steel swords. Over the next few days, you are not to transform into a Giant without my orders. Only once you can freely control the power of transformation may you transform on your own. For now, get some proper rest."

With that, Eren walked out. Modun's tent was not far from his own. After all, Modun was the deputy commander of Eren's Guard Corps and counted as one of his personal guards, so he lived very close to Eren.

After Eren left, Modun

rose unsteadily. He still felt groggy and wanted to sleep in bed. He tottered over to the bed, flopped forward onto it, and fell asleep. After leaving the tent, Eren took several guards to the Dosh Khaleen, wanting to see how the women had progressed with the task he had assigned them yesterday of sending messages to the other Khalasars.

After arriving at the Dosh Khaleen with his guards, Eren had them wait outside the door and went in alone.

When the women of the Dosh Khaleen saw Eren enter, the Crone said:

"Your Majesty, we have already sent people to deliver the messages to those Khalasars as you instructed. Once those Khalasars receive the messages, even the fastest will need more than a month to arrive."

At this, the Crone glanced at Eren and said hesitantly:

"Your Majesty, those Khalasars have never witnessed your great power, so there may not be many who come to pay their respects. I hope you will prepare for that early."

Hearing this, Eren waved his hand and said, "I've already prepared for that. I'll wait here for six months and see how many Khalasars are willing to come, or deliver themselves to my doorstep out of curiosity. After six months, I'll send troops into the Dothraki Sea to find them. Of course, the Khals leading them will have to die."

Then Eren asked, "What's your name, and how many years have you been in the Holy City?"

The Crone replied, "Your Majesty, I came to this Holy City fifty years ago. My former husband died when I was very young. After that, I was sent here as a Khaleesi. My name is Umber."

Eren knew that these women had all once been Khaleesis. After their husbands, the Khals, died, they would be sent here. Once here, they were effectively priestesses of the Holy City, organizing whatever events were held.

Taking these women into the Church of the Giants as nuns was Eren's way of putting them to good use. All they had to do was worship a different god. They already knew all that mystical babble, which was enough to fool people.

Eren said to Umber, "From now on, you are nuns of the Church of the Giants. Once you become nuns, you may neither marry nor lose your chastity. You must devote everything to the god. This position suits you very well. Umber, from now on, you will be the Mother Superior and their leader. You will lead them in converting to the worship of our great Titan God, Yeager."

After hearing this, Umber could only reply, "Your Majesty, I will carry out the tasks you have assigned me."

Eren continued, "For now, stay as you are. Once I've united the Dothraki and seized a city-state to found a nation, I'll give you the church's scriptures. After that, develop the church according to the doctrines written in them."

After hearing him out, Umber could only answer yes again and again. Seeing her attitude, Eren walked out. As far as Eren was concerned, did they have a choice? No one was willing to die for nothing, much less for a god who gave no response.
