Background / History

Transmigration and Takeover

Eren was originally an ordinary young man in China who enjoyed anime and television dramas. While rewatching Game of Thrones and reading the Attack on Titan manga, he became enraged at Eren’s death and threw his phone at his computer. Both devices exploded, and he glimpsed yellow lightning before awakening among corpses on the Dothraki Sea 1.

His new body belonged to a twelve-year-old Dothraki screamer whose khalasar had been defeated by a larger force. The boy had died from a blade wound extending from his right shoulder. After discovering that the wound had healed, the protagonist accepted the name Eren, gathered emergency supplies, and tested his Titan transformation 1.

He followed the departing khalasar’s tracks for two days in Titan form, then attacked its camp with a hardened stone projectile. After taking control, he learned that the khalasar contained approximately 35,000 people, including 21,500 fighters. He accepted the submission of Colin and Link and ordered captives from the defeated khalasar released and incorporated as his subjects 2 3.

Founding the Titan Empire

After reading Dothraki memories, Eren concluded that their obedience rested on strength rather than lasting loyalty. He began replacing the khalasar’s institutions with an empire and a monotheistic church, presenting his Titan powers as gifts from a deity he invented: Yeager 6.

Eren publicly renamed his following the Titan Empire, adopted Yeager as his surname, and declared himself king and pope. He reorganized military commands through contests of fighting ability, running, and archery, promising Titan powers to outstanding warriors 7 8.

Following an initial raid on Yunkai, he learned that the year was 295 AC and Robert Baratheon ruled Westeros. He planned to unite the Dothraki before establishing a territorial kingdom and eventually moving toward Westeros 9 10.

Vaes Dothrak and Dothraki Expansion

At Vaes Dothrak, Eren interpreted the Dosh Khaleen’s prophecy of a world-conquering khal as referring to himself and his Giants. He converted the Dosh Khaleen into nuns of the Church of the Giants and appointed Umber their Mother Superior 12 13 15.

He granted Modun the Jaw Titan and trained him to retain control during transformation. Modun’s public demonstrations reinforced Eren’s claim that devoted service could earn divine power. Eren waited for other khalasars to submit, threatening to hunt down those whose leaders refused to come 14 15 16.

Over six months in the Holy City, Eren expanded his army to 150,000 troops. He then set out to plunder Slaver’s Bay before heading toward Pentos in search of dragon eggs and Daenerys Targaryen 18.

Destruction of Slaver’s Bay

Eren’s forces overran Meereen, killed its slave masters, seized its inhabitants, and stripped the city of supplies and wealth. He then destroyed it with a Colossal explosion. He intended not merely to conquer the city but to erase its culture, faith, and heritage so that its people would eventually become part of a unified population 19 20 21.

His army subsequently returned to Yunkai and attacked Astapor. Eren destroyed both cities after their capture and evacuation of plunder. At Astapor, he spared captured Unsullied instructors and ordered them to train imperial infantry to Unsullied standards without castration 23 24 25 28 31.

The campaign yielded extensive treasure and roughly 600,000–700,000 captives. Eren chose Pentos as the intended site of his nation, planned a mint and imperial currency, and sought to investigate magic before the Red Comet’s arrival 32.

Defeat of Drogo and Preparations for Pentos

While crossing the grasslands, Eren ordered an 80,000-man force to pursue Khal Drogo’s khalasar. Modun killed Drogo after he refused to surrender, and Eren subsequently surrounded the khalasar’s camp and accepted its submission 39 42 43 45.

Eren incorporated captured warriors into his army, promoted Modun to command the Royal Guard, and appointed Flock, Link, and John to lead the First, Second, and Third Corps. He also ordered support for the families of dead and severely wounded soldiers 46.

Before departing for Pentos, he created 150 Colossal Titans to guard the prisoner camp and later form the foundations of his planned inner-city walls. With troop replacements and camp preparations complete, he ordered the march to begin the following morning 48 50.

Appearance

  • Human form: Initially appears as a twelve-year-old Dothraki boy; another khal later judges him to look twelve or thirteen 1 17.
  • Usual Titan form: Approximately fifty meters tall, with pointed ears, glowing green eyes, armor, and steam rising from its body 1.
  • Position within the Titan: Occupies the nape and observes through the Titan’s eyes; can emerge from the nape after ending a transformation 1 2.
  • Adjustable features: Can increase his Titan’s height and later learns to optimize his human appearance and muscle development through genetic modification 7 36.

Personality

Eren treats overwhelming personal strength as the foundation of authority. His idea of freedom is explicitly hierarchical: he believes that securing his own freedom requires standing above everyone else and depriving others of theirs. He envisions an empire whose laws bind every subject but not himself 6 10 20.

He is calculating and coercive rather than sentimental. He uses executions, forced transformation, memory surveillance, and religious promises to enforce obedience. His proposed equality makes everyone equally subordinate to him, while his assimilation policy deliberately targets conquered peoples’ independent cultures and beliefs 4 11 20 24.

His pragmatism also shapes military decisions. He avoids destructive transformations when allies or valuable plunder are nearby, uses Titans to reduce cavalry casualties, and converts surrendered enemies into soldiers and laborers. He nevertheless abandons captives unable to maintain the march and later orders Colossal Titans to kill stragglers 9 17 23 28 50.

Eren is self-indulgent and openly uninterested in romantic attachment. He assembles a harem and entertainment troupe from captive women, placing considerable importance on their appearance and his own comfort. At the same time, he remains an active experimenter, repeatedly revising his assumptions about Titan powers rather than treating the manga’s rules as absolute 3 22 36 48.

Abilities & Skills

Titan Transformation

Eren transforms through injury and focused intent, producing yellow lightning and an enormous Titan body 1.

  • His armored form withstands ordinary arrows without injury and easily breaches city walls 2 9.
  • Maintains Titan form while tracking a khalasar over two days 2.
  • Can grow beyond fifty meters, though greater size increases expenditure 7.
  • Can suppress the Colossal transformation’s major blast when allies or loot must be preserved 9.
  • Uses explosive transformations to obliterate conquered cities 21 24 25 31.

Hardening and Construct Creation

Eren creates weapons, armor, and structures through Hardening, including while untransformed 1 4.

  • Forms hammers, stone projectiles, knives, bowls, fighting platforms, emblems, and religious statuary 1 2 4 7 8 47.
  • Raises ground spikes within four hundred meters; initially estimates that he can repeat this attack about five times 1.
  • In human form, can create hardened implements two to three meters long or a suit of armor, but with less power than in Titan form 4.
  • Can armor Pure Titans directly. Armor created in the Coordinate costs his stamina, whereas a Titan actively using granted Hardening spends its own 48.

Regeneration and Physical Modification

Eren’s first sign of power is the healing of the Dothraki boy’s fatal wound 1.

  • Can deliberately delay healing while drawing blood, then close the wound afterward 4.
  • Uses Titan power to suppress his own emotional reactions during a public execution 5.
  • Can genetically modify himself and connected subjects; identified applications include strength, speed, stamina, appearance, and muscle development 36.
  • Considers recreating Ackerman abilities to strengthen his human form, but no successful Ackerman modification is documented 18.

Coordinate and Mental Control

The Coordinate contains a central pillar of light connected to people who have consumed Eren’s blood wine 6 36.

  • Searches connected individuals and examines their memories 6.
  • Selectively triggers transformations rather than transforming every connected person indiscriminately 6 11.
  • Alters memories and implants subconscious loyalty commands 11 45.
  • Overrides a subordinate Titan holder’s control of Pure Titans 26.
  • Plans to use memory inspections to monitor high officials and prevent disloyalty or corruption 10 20.

Titan Creation and Ability Bestowal

Eren creates Titan bodies by sculpting sand around a person in the Coordinate, then transmitting the completed body into reality 4 15.

  • Creates Pure Titans from people who have consumed his blood 4 5.
  • Grants intelligent transformations, including Modun’s Jaw Titan and Flock’s Screaming Titan 14 25.
  • Sets a fifteen-year lifespan limit for intelligent Titan recipients as a succession and physical-fitness policy 14.
  • Eventually discovers that granting an ability shares permission to use it; he retains the ability himself and can revoke access 48.
  • Produces humanoid combat Titans, quadrupedal cargo haulers, and sixty-meter Colossal Titans 48 50.
  • Can reduce Colossal Titans’ heat and steam to avoid damaging the grasslands 49.

Limitations:

  • Early sculpting quality directly affects a Titan’s appearance and can produce distorted features 4 36.
  • Pure Titans retain movements familiar from human life. Giving them wings does not teach them to fly 36.
  • First-time intelligent Titan users may lose their reason and require restraint until exhausted 15 26.
  • The origin of Eren’s powers and his possible exemption from a thirteen-year lifespan remain his own initial hypotheses, not established facts 1.

Souls and “Valhalla”

Eren turns a fabricated religious afterlife into a controlled experience within the Coordinate 11.

  • Retains fallen warriors’ souls and uses them to sculpt Titan bodies 11.
  • Places their consciousnesses in pleasant dreams and connects them so they can meet fallen comrades 47.
  • Uses the promise of Valhalla to frame transformation and death in service as divine rewards 11 14.
  • Considers retained souls a possible resource for future magic, but no such magical use is demonstrated 11.

Strategic Knowledge

  • Uses his knowledge of Game of Thrones to identify the political timeline, seek Daenerys, and anticipate the Red Comet 10 32.
  • Seeks dragons to compensate for the ground-bound nature of his Titan forces 10.
  • Regards unfamiliar magic as a possible threat capable of bypassing his obvious physical advantages 2.
  • Initially models his abilities on Attack on Titan, then recognizes that his position as their source gives him broader possibilities than the manga’s inheritors 36 48.
