Meereen

After a month on the road, Eren arrived at Slaver's Bay with his army.

His first target this time was Meereen, followed by Yunkai and finally Astapor. Once he had swept through them all, he would sail to Pentos.

Meereen stood on a sandy, rocky promontory on the northernmost coast of Slaver's Bay, near the mouth of the Skahazadhan River.

Like its sister cities, Yunkai and Astapor, Meereen was built of brick, but its bricks were multicolored rather than simply yellow or red. It was heavily fortified, with tall, thick, well-maintained walls and defensive towers at every corner. Bronze Harpy heads lined the walls, capable of spraying boiling oil at enemies.

The northern wall followed the riverbank, with the river flowing through the city, while the western wall ran along the bay. The city's sewers emptied into the Skahazadhan River.

It had broad streets and red arena stands. Meereen's wealthiest citizens lived atop smaller pyramids, and the city contained around twenty of these much smaller pyramids.

However, this impressively fortified city would soon be destroyed in the coming war. This time, Eren had come to take away all the gold, grain, beautiful women-everything in all of Slaver's Bay.

But Meereen was close to a harbor, after all. At the first sign of trouble, those slave masters would certainly flee by water. That was very unfavorable for Eren and his army, because he had no ships. If those slave masters wanted to escape, he could not stop them.

His only option was to breach the city quickly and seize the harbor. After all, loading all their possessions onto ships would take time.

If he moved fast enough, he could not only seize the harbor in time, but also put its ships to his own use.

When he brought his army within sight of Meereen's walls, he surveyed the city.

He said to Modun, "Once we breach the city, bring thirty thousand of the Guard Corps with me and attack the harbor directly. Remember, move fast. You can use the Power of the Giants right away, but remember to preserve the ships whenever possible. If any are already loaded and about to flee, sink them immediately. I'll have those Giants head to the harbor with us and watch all the main routes."

Eren took thirty thousand of the Guard Corps this time, leaving twenty thousand men and ten thousand logistics personnel to guard the supplies and camp. Modun nodded and went straight off to deploy the troops.

Then Eren said to Flock and the other two, "Once the city is breached, have your subordinates follow their regiment commanders straight to those pyramids. Kill all the slave masters. You can keep the beautiful women, but execute everyone else."

The three of them returned to their respective forces and relayed their king's orders to the regiment commanders.

Once Eren saw that everything was ready, he had a Giant shield him with both hands and sent more than fifty Pure Titans charging straight toward Meereen. The Giant carrying him stayed at the rear.

When the defenders on Meereen's walls saw the Giants charging toward them, they hastily drew their bows and fired. Unfortunately, though the arrows rained down in great numbers, they barely tickled the Giants, who slammed straight into the walls.

Loose stones flew from the base of the walls under the impacts, while the defenders above were jolted and shaken.

As Eren approached the gate, a flash of light erupted. He transformed into a fifty-meter Giant and kicked the gate flying.

Seeing the city breached, the distant Dothraki cavalry charged over on horseback with a clamor of wild cries. Some of the Pure Titans recovered and began climbing the walls, while those near the gate squeezed through the breach.

After kicking down the gate, Eren ran straight toward the harbor, taking a direct route without turning.

As he ran, buildings along his path were trampled flat and collapsed, while his feet sent fragments of brick from the houses flying everywhere.

Some people lucky enough to escape being crushed or struck had just crawled out of the rubble when they saw a multitude of Giants running after him. Though these Giants were not as tall as the first one, there were many of them.

These Giants ran in all sorts of different ways,

but they were all fast. Some leaped around like spiders, crushing people who had just crawled out of the rubble, while others jumped along, biting straight at people. For a time, smoke filled the entire city, wails rose everywhere, and the rubble of houses littered the streets.

Yet among the masses, there were always some who dared to resist. While some Giants were eating people, they slashed the tendons at their feet with blades, sending them crashing down. Once a Giant fell, some people thrust blades or spears straight into his body.

But with no one yet aware that the nape was a Giant's weak point, the Giants soon recovered, even though blood appeared to spray everywhere as they were slashed and stabbed. Watching them slowly recover, some of those who dared to resist fell into despair. Others kept hacking away with anger on their faces, yet could not help growing numb.

Just then, the Dothraki cavalry who had seen Eren breach the city poured in like a tide and raised their blades against those who dared to resist the Giants. Though these people dared to fight back, it was still futile. Beyond the threat of the Giants, the Dothraki cavalry were also swarming over them like ants.

Modun led the charge at the head of the Guard Corps, rushing down the path Eren had made as he ran. As he spoke to his subordinates, they slowed down.

"Keep your distance from me. I'm going to transform into a Giant."

With that, he leaped forcefully from his horse, bit through his palm, and transformed into one of the Jaw Giants. He chased after Eren, clearing the rubble blocking his way with his claws as he ran.

After Flock and the others entered the city, they first charged toward the main thoroughfare. Then the regiment commanders led their troops toward the separate pyramids.

Eren, meanwhile, charged straight through everything in his path until he reached the harbor. Seeing that some ships had already abandoned even their cargo amid the commotion and were raising their sails and weighing anchor, he immediately created a stone ball and hurled it at them. Among the Meereenese soldiers near the harbor, some were so overwhelmed by the Giant's intimidating presence that they dropped their weapons and fled.

Others hurled spears straight at Eren. Though these men were very strong, it was of no use at all against him, because they were too tiny. The spears that looked long in their hands were little different from toothpicks in his eyes after his transformation.

Moreover, with armor covering his entire body, those spears were like eggs striking stone and could not penetrate his defenses at all. After dealing with the fleeing ships, Eren was no longer in a hurry. The wreckage of the destroyed ships had blocked the outer harbor, trapping the ships that had not yet escaped inside.

Eren now turned his gaze toward the Meereenese soldiers. Seeing those who dared to resist, he stretched out a foot and stomped down on them. The fleeing soldiers, meanwhile, ran straight into the approaching Modun and the cavalry behind him.

At the sight of the soldiers, Modun slashed down with a claw, sending severed limbs flying everywhere. Behind him, the cavalry raised their blades and hacked at the heads of the fleeing Meereenese soldiers.
