Background / History

Transmigration and the Xiao Clan

Xiao Baichuan is a transmigrator familiar with Battle Through the Heavens. Adopted by the Xiao Clan’s First Elder out of pity, he initially expects an extraordinary life but instead struggles with ordinary aptitude, poverty, and limited cultivation resources. Meeting Ling Xi and Yao Chen

Recurring dreams of a woman attacking him lead to an encounter with Ling Xi in the Twin Fish Jade Pendant’s mysterious space. She identifies herself as a Dou Di and the Nine-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python empress of the Ancient Heavenly Snake Clan. They realize that they come from different eras and that neither can use Dou Qi inside the space 1 4.

Xiao Baichuan reasons that dying within the space will allow them to leave. Ling Xi stabs him and then takes her own life; he awakens safely in his room, with her present in his Sea of Consciousness. Their matching connection to the pendant appears to explain how they met 5.

He subsequently discovers Yao Chen’s soul inside the pendant. Contrary to his hopes, Yao Chen has not caused his poor cultivation by absorbing his Dou Qi: the pendant itself has been nourishing the old alchemist’s soul. Xiao Baichuan demands rent and compensation, then uses the supposed debt and the threat of exposure to secure Yao Chen as his teacher and Protector 8 9.

Engagement Annulment and Liu Ling’s Challenge

Expecting to watch Nalan Yanran break her engagement with Xiao Yan, Xiao Baichuan instead learns that he is her fiancé. Ling Xi takes control of his body, intimidates the assembled visitors, and formally dissolves the engagement. Her conduct leaves Nalan Yanran unsettled and makes observers question his apparent mediocrity 6 7.

Distorted rumors about the annulment provoke Liu Ling into confronting him. Xiao Baichuan first dismantles Liu Ling’s accusations verbally, then accepts a duel with assistance from both companions: Yao Chen supplies enough Soul Force for One-Star Dou Zhe strength, while Ling Xi controls his body. She defeats Liu Ling even after he abandons his promise to suppress his Five-Star Dou Zhe cultivation 9 10 11 12.

To conceal Ling Xi’s involvement, Xiao Baichuan claims that his techniques came from a manual found with the pendant in ancient ruins. The victory draws attention from Gu Xun’er, Yun Yun, and Gu He 13 14 21.

Body Swap and Return

A later visit to the pendant’s space leaves Xiao Baichuan in Ling Xi’s body in her ancient era. Unable to reactivate the pendant immediately, he concludes that it requires three days to recharge. He attempts to maintain her identity around her younger sister, Ling Zhi 15 16.

When the Heavenly Phoenix Clan’s holy son, Huang Aotian, arrives to propose to Ling Zhi, his leering provokes Xiao Baichuan into striking him. Unable to judge a Dou Di body’s strength accurately, Xiao Baichuan annihilates Huang Aotian, his entourage, and the betrothal gifts with one palm, leaving a vast hand-shaped abyss 17.

Meanwhile, Ling Xi uses Xiao Baichuan’s body to auction Yao Chen’s medicines, advance to Dou Zhe, and cultivate the Flame Mantra. After they exchange bodies again, his firsthand experience of Dou Di power strengthens his determination to reach that realm himself 18 19 20 21.

Departure and Xiao Yi Xian’s Rescue

Gu Xun’er gives Xiao Baichuan cultivation supplies, while Yun Yun visits and offers him and his teacher a place in the Misty Cloud Sect. He declines the invitation and refuses Gu He’s requests to demonstrate his palm technique or introduce his teacher 22 23.

Leaving Wutan City for Qingshan Town, he survives a threatening probe by Ling Ying intended to expose his hidden backer. He then trains against magical beasts under Yao Chen, developing combinations of several Dou Techniques 24.

In Poison Pool Swamp, he rescues Xiao Yi Xian during the awakening of her Woeful Poison Body. With Yao Chen’s guidance and protection, he temporarily suppresses the poison, carries her to shelter, and later explains her constitution to her 25 26.

After the pendant recharges, Xiao Baichuan brings Ling Xi to inspect the poisonous valley. She reveals that a previous owner of the Woeful Poison Body became the Northwest Poison Emperor and describes the fourteen Dou Di active ten thousand years earlier 27 28.

His attraction to Ling Xi frequently surfaces through teasing and suggestive thoughts. Nevertheless, he shows concern for whether her presence in his era interferes with her responsibilities. Their banter coexists with his reliance on her guidance and combat experience 5 6 8 11.

Initially discouraged by his poor aptitude, he becomes increasingly determined to build strength of his own rather than depend entirely on protectors. He diligently practices combat combinations and risks exposure to corrosive poison to help Xiao Yi Xian 13 21 24 25.
