Background / History

Original world

Lu Xingchen grew up in a loving family whose wealth came from his parents’ hard work. Although their work frequently kept them away, they provided for him and spent their available time with him. His mother had escaped a rural household that valued sons over daughters: at fifteen, she went south to work rather than submit to an arranged marriage to a widower. Her experience shaped his sympathy for people facing coercion and discrimination 3 63.

Before his death, Lu Xingchen read The Happy Life of Everyone’s Darling, Lu Jiaojiao. He disliked its favored protagonist, Lu Yichen, but became deeply attached to its main villain, Huo Chuyun. Distressed by Huo Chuyun’s mutilation and eventual suicide, he contacted the author intending to buy the novel’s rights and rewrite the ending. He also obtained a Peace Talisman from a temple on Huo Chuyun’s behalf 1 2 3 30.

The original Lu Xingchen

The body Lu Xingchen inhabits belonged to the Lu family’s missing youngest son, a minor cannon-fodder character in the novel. The family presented Lu Yichen as an adopted replacement and continued favoring him after the original Lu Xingchen returned. The original owner lived beside the servants, endured abuse, and was deliberately confined in a dark room despite having claustrophobia 1 5 6.

Grandpa Lu genuinely loved the original owner and left him twenty percent of Lu Corporation’s shares, knowing that he was not his biological grandson. After Grandpa Lu’s death, Lu Yize and Zhou Fenglan exploited the grieving child’s wish to find his grandfather to arrange his disappearance. The family later sought his return because the estate lawyer would not release his inheritance without him 118 119.

Transmigration

Lu Xingchen died in a car accident and entered the novel after the original owner was poisoned. Lu Yichen had arranged for the original owner to be drugged and delivered to President Fei; the person administering the drug added rat poison, killing him. After taking over the body, Lu Xingchen fought off President Fei and the man guarding the door. Still affected by the drug, he knocked on a nearby room and encountered Huo Chuyun 1.

He initially relied on the novel and the original owner’s memories to understand his circumstances. His knowledge was incomplete, however: he had largely skipped the Lu family’s scenes, and Huo Chuyun’s rebirth had already changed events before his arrival 5 8 30.

Appearance

Lu Xingchen has a tall, slender build and a youthful appearance, with very fair skin and delicate features 2 74.

  • Height: 1.83 meters 74.
  • Eyes: Foxlike, contrasting with his otherwise innocent-looking face 24.
  • Distinguishing mark: A small black mole beneath the corner of his eye 5 74.
  • Hair: Dyes his hair blue, recalling the color he wore before transmigration; seeing the result strengthens his recognition of himself as Lu Xingchen rather than merely the body’s original owner 41 43.
  • Jewelry: Wears a black Xingxing stud in his left ear, matching Huo Chuyun’s black moon stud 74 94.
  • Changed presentation: Stops wearing the original owner’s heavy makeup and replaces his timid, hunched posture with a confident bearing 9.

Personality

Lu Xingchen is flamboyant, sharp-tongued, and unapologetically self-confident. He rejects the Lu family’s attempts to demand obedience through guilt, openly mocks their hypocrisy, and answers hostile online comments with insults rather than deference. He is equally direct in romance, announcing his intention to pursue Huo Chuyun almost immediately after their first encounter 3 5 22.

His aggression is especially pronounced when someone threatens Huo Chuyun or his pets. He retaliates physically against Lu Yichen and Lu Yihao, uses their concern for the Lu Corporation as leverage, and acknowledges that he will use any means necessary to achieve his aims. The narration explicitly describes his compassion as selective rather than indiscriminate 4 6 15 29.

Beneath that confrontational manner, he is attentive and empathetic. He supports Zhao Zhiyan as she considers divorce, listens closely to Gu Zichu’s distress, and lends Han Lu his jacket when her short skirt makes sitting awkward. Huo Chuyun recognizes this consideration as something concealed beneath his uninhibited behavior 63 65 75.

Lu Xingchen regards his second life as an opportunity to pursue what matters to him. Although he misses his mother and grieves over Huo Chuyun’s suffering, he describes himself as having both deep empathy and a strong heart 3 63.
