Personality

Ning Fengzhi combines generous patronage with long-term planning for his sect. After recognizing Yu Tianlong’s talent, he offers extensive cultivation support and considers a marriage between the boy and Ning Rongrong. Privately, he reasons that Yu Tianlong could secure the sect’s future for a century—or far longer if he eventually becomes a god 16 24.

He is protective of both his disciple and those he values. Following Yu Tianlong’s battle with Liu Erlong, he rebukes “Xue Qinghe” for taking risks and offers the boy refuge at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. When Yu Tianlong declines, Ning Fengzhi accepts his reasoning and decides to increase his protection instead 23.

His indulgence toward Rongrong clashes with his possessiveness as a father. Although he deliberately introduces her to Yu Tianlong, he becomes distressed when she quickly starts taking the boy’s side. He nevertheless honors his promise to pay for Yu Tianlong’s purchases, even surrendering an auction item he had wanted himself 24 27 28.

History

Meeting Yu Tianlong

Ning Fengzhi first meets Yu Tianlong beside Emperor Xue Ye in the Heaven Dou imperial palace. Qian Renxue, disguised as his disciple Xue Qinghe, introduces the boy as an eight-year-old rank thirty-four Soul Elder. Ning Fengzhi initially questions the claim, but his skepticism turns to excitement when Yu Tianlong summons Cho’Gath and three purple Soul Rings 15 16.

After hearing about Yu Tianlong’s background and Martial Soul, Ning Fengzhi welcomes the opportunity the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan has lost. He promises that the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect will supply the boy’s cultivation resources and Soul Beasts, then gives him a Storage Soul Tool containing money, treasures, and tokens useful for obtaining assistance 16.

Offering Protection

After Yu Tianlong’s confrontation with Liu Erlong, Ning Fengzhi arrives at the Crown Prince’s residence with Sword Douluo Chen Xin. Reassured to find the boy eating, he criticizes “Xue Qinghe” and proposes moving Yu Tianlong into the sect, where the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan would not dare pursue him 23.

Yu Tianlong declines because he intends to attend school and believes the nearby sect can still protect him. Ning Fengzhi accepts this, asks the boy to call him “Uncle Ning,” introduces Chen Xin as a sect guardian, and invites both Yu Tianlong and “Xue Qinghe” to an auction 23.

Matchmaking and the Heaven Dou Auction

Seeing Chen Xin readily accept Yu Tianlong as a grandson, Ning Fengzhi decides that an actual family connection would be stronger. He hopes to secure Rongrong’s position as Yu Tianlong’s principal wife before Emperor Xue Ye can advance a competing match with Princess Xue Ke. He subsequently introduces Rongrong to Yu Tianlong and encourages her to call him big brother 24.

At the auction, Ning Fengzhi offers to cover anything Yu Tianlong wants. Rongrong asks him to buy ten-thousand-year whale glue for the boy, who explains that it would strengthen Cho’Gath. Despite having wanted the item himself, Ning Fengzhi wins it for 230,000 Gold Soul Coins; the other bidders fall silent after hearing his resentful bid 26 27.

He also wins a Thousand-Year Soul Bone and settles the bill for both items. Before leaving, he asks Yu Tianlong to remember the sect’s kindness and never act against it. His generosity subsequently leaves Yu Tianlong troubled about the prospect of opposing the sect 28.

Rongrong’s Academy Attendance

Ning Fengzhi later brings Rongrong to join Yu Tianlong at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. According to Rongrong, her father and the others trust Yu Tianlong to protect her; Yu Tianlong interprets her presence as an additional means of extending the sect’s protection to him 32.

He also instructs Rongrong not to cause trouble outside. She later hesitates to provoke the academy’s students because of this warning, until Yu Tianlong frames her participation as helping him rather than starting trouble herself 40.
