Background / History

Awakening and Departure

Yu Tianlong transmigrated into Douluo Continent six years before his Martial Soul Awakening. Knowing the original story, he trained consistently and initially intended to prevent the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s future destruction by Spirit Hall 1.

His awakening overturned those plans. After his Martial Soul appeared as a bug with innate level 0.1 Soul Power, Yu Yuanzhen withdrew his clan resources and assigned him to manage shops outside Sunset Forest. Yu Tianlong protested that his grandfather had died obtaining Yu Yuanzhen’s ninth Soul Ring, while his parents had disappeared overseas searching for a remedy for Yu Xiaogang’s failed mutation. He rejected the assignment and publicly severed ties with the clan 1.

After discovering that the bug was Cho’Gath and could strengthen him through eating, he packed his belongings and his family’s memorial portraits. He chose the Star Dou Great Forest as a source of Soul Beasts and cultivation materials 2.

Wilderness Cultivation

Before entering the forest, Yu Tianlong bought twenty-one hundred-year Soul Beast corpses with his remaining savings. He used his old clan token to discourage potential robbers despite having renounced the clan. Feeding those corpses to Cho’Gath accelerated their growth and led to the Martial Soul developing intelligence 3 4.

Their early hunts were dangerous: Cho’Gath’s poor threat assessment brought them into conflict with a Fang Flame Hound and nearly cost them their lives against a thousand-year Cave Demon Spider. Continued hunting nevertheless strengthened Yu Tianlong enough to absorb a thousand-year first ring 5 7.

More than two years later, a hungry Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear attacked after they had hunted a four-thousand-year Gale Lion. The wounded Cho’Gath held it back so Yu Tianlong could escape. Qian Renxue’s party rescued him, and he promised to repay her 10.

Qian Renxue’s Patronage

Qian Renxue revealed both her identity as Spirit Hall’s young master and her disguise as Crown Prince Xue Qinghe. Yu Tianlong initially resisted following her because he feared losing the freedom to hunt and cultivate. Her offer to supply powerful Soul Beasts changed his calculation, and he accepted her patronage 11 12 13.

In Heaven Dou City, she publicly introduced him as her younger brother. Emperor Xue Ye made him a marquis, while Ning Fengzhi offered cultivation resources. His connection to the crown prince also brought him gifts from Zhou Kexin and admission to Heaven Dou Royal Academy 14 16 17.

Final Break with Liu Erlong

Qian Renxue took Yu Tianlong to Blue Tyrant Academy after telling him that Liu Erlong had searched for him. He was willing to restore a personal relationship with his aunt, but refused reconciliation with the clan 18 19.

Liu Erlong instead urged him to apologize to Yu Yuanzhen. Their argument escalated when he accused her of protecting Yu Xiaogang at his expense. She attacked, and Yu Tianlong fought alongside Cho’Gath until his Soul Power became insufficient to continue teleporting. Qian Renxue intervened and took him away 19 20 21 22.

Afterward, Yu Tianlong resolved to destroy the clan within ten years. He also warned Qian Renxue against further tests that could damage their relationship; she agreed 22.

Academy Life and the Immortal Herb Plan

At Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Yu Tianlong befriended Ning Rongrong and sought instruction from Dugu Yan to repair gaps in his education. Zhi Lin’s intrusive Soul Power test angered him, but the compensatory medicine supplied by Meng Shenji proved valuable: Cho’Gath’s consumption of the blood-red fruit strengthened his armor and raised him to level 38 34 36 37 38 45.

His conflict with the clan resurfaced when Yu Tianheng challenged his strength. Yu Tianlong overwhelmingly defeated him, then ordered Cho’Gath to mutilate his genitals rather than kill him. He deliberately avoided murder because he feared provoking an unrestrained attack from the clan’s Titled Douluo 40 41 42.

After receiving Yue Guan’s illustrated immortal herb guide through Qian Renxue, Yu Tianlong began pursuing his plan involving Dugu Yan. He identified her poisoning and agreed to help both her and Dugu Bo. In exchange, Dugu Bo offered to hunt Soul Beasts for him and arranged to collect him for a trip to Sunset Forest 46 47 49.

Personality

Yu Tianlong is proud, pragmatic, and highly protective of his independence. He accepts powerful patrons and tolerates minor indignities when they help his cultivation, but refuses to apologize for the clan’s treatment of his family. Betrayal leaves him wary even of benefactors, and he explicitly objects when Qian Renxue’s testing crosses his boundaries 12 13 19 22.

He places considerable importance on repaying kindness, without considering himself a good person. He teaches Cho’Gath not to eat benefactors, yet is willing to use manipulation and brutal retaliation against enemies. His gratitude toward both Qian Renxue and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect creates a genuine dilemma because he expects their factions to become enemies 23 28 42 45 47.

Abilities & Skills

Devouring and Adaptive Evolution

Cho’Gath converts consumed creatures and treasures into growth, with part of the benefit passing to Yu Tianlong 2 10.

• Shared gains: Yu Tianlong receives roughly twenty percent of Cho’Gath’s consumption effects, including physical improvements, Soul Power, speed, and resistance 10.
• Food quality: Soul-rich prey and treasures are more effective than ordinary vegetation. Old corpses provide less energy because much of their Soul Power has already dissipated into Soul Rings 2 3.
