Background / History

The Broken Sword was discovered at the center of the Ye Family back-mountain Sword Tomb, where it had been held by an ancient skeleton awaiting the master of the Chaos Sword Body. Its black blade bore Chaos Runes and the three characters “Primordial Sword”; its hilt accepted the half-piece of sword-patterned jade Chu Mo had carried since childhood. When Chu Mo reached the Sword Tomb's ninety-ninth step, the sword flew to him and awakened alongside his Chaos Sword Body and Primordial Sword Art 1.

In its incomplete state, the sword nonetheless became central to Chu Mo's rise. It shattered Ye Hong's Blazing Sun Sword, answered Chu Mo's desire for vengeance against Song Li, devoured the Fire Feather Eagle, and absorbed sword intent within the Soaring Cloud Sword Sect's Scripture Repository 2 3 4.

During the Azure Edge Grand Competition, the sword evolved by absorbing and merging sword-intent laws from successive trial layers. Chu Mo's completion of the ninth layer earned the Sword Tomb's acknowledgment, restoring the weapon's complete form and establishing its connection to Sword Domain Symbiosis 5.

The sword later acted as a key to the Primordial Sword Domain's legacy. It opened a teleportation route through spatial turbulence, assimilated Death, Wood, Tide, and Heart Burning laws, and eventually incorporated the seven Primordial Chaos Keys into its restored body 6 7 8 12 14 16.

Its later resonances exposed the legacy and errors of the First Generation Sword Master. It connected with the fate plates of past Chaos Sword Body hosts, inserted itself into the Sword Master's skeleton at Mount Guiji, and revealed the Sword Master's memories and hidden Star Map 39 42. Following the absorption of the Divine Lords' Life Beads, it became the complete Endless Sword, symbolizing the new Endless Sword Dao rather than the old sacrificial lineage 51.

This Originators' weapon bears a rune connected to the Starfall Bow and draws the attention of the Star Orbit Tribe 192. Separate later records describe a Broken Sword found among Chu Mo's parents' belongings as a possible fragment of the Chaos Judgment Sword, an Origin Relic forged from the Sea of Chaos's first wisp of Chaos Qi. Three fragments are eventually reassembled in the Origin Furnace 249 252.

• The wooden sword Ye Hong crushes at the beginning of the story is distinct from the black Broken Sword retrieved from the Sword Tomb later that chapter 1.
