Background / History
Ling Ziling was born to Azure Feather Dao Sect Master Ling Yue. Her father celebrated her birth for three days, and she grew up doted on by her parents and senior fellow disciples. At age nine, her supreme-grade Metal Spirit Root was identified, and her father began teaching her to cultivate 2.
When she was eleven, her mother answered a distress call and died in a Blood Demon Sect ambush. Ling Ziling initially knew only that demonic cultivators had killed her. She vowed to destroy the demonic sects and later personally slew countless demonic disciples. At age 35, killing three holy sons and two holy maidens earned her the title Jade Radiance Empress 2 37.
Ling Ziling became sect master when the Immortal Alliance summoned the sect’s Spirit Transformation experts away. Before leaving, Ling Yue helped appoint Luo Yun as grand elder. Her father subsequently died, and her first simulation’s historical record places the loss of all her loved ones by age 148 3 12 37.
Appearance
Ling Ziling is tall and exceptionally beautiful, with a normally resolute gaze 2.
- Her eyes turn blood-red when she confirms Luo Yun’s responsibility for her mother’s death 37.
- Her killing aura can surge high enough to tear apart the clouds above Azure Feather Peak 11.
Personality
Ling Ziling values the Azure Feather Dao Sect more than her own life. It preserves her father’s legacy and her happiest memories; seeing its destruction in a simulation devastates her, but the possibility of changing that future restores her determination 3.
She judges potential disciples by resolve and loyalty as well as aptitude. Wu Yuehua’s refusal to abandon the sect in a simulated future strengthens her commitment to nurturing her. By contrast, Lin Wan’er’s repeated avoidance of hardship makes Ling Ziling reconsider accepting her, despite her resources and cultivation talent 17 34.
Her hatred of the demonic sects is intensely personal, but she can conceal her anger when necessary. After discovering Qi Yue’s involvement in her mother’s death, she avoids singling him out before the assembled elders and instead launches a broader purge. A later simulated ambush teaches her to be more cautious about aggressive interventions 11 35.
Abilities & Skills
Sect Simulator
A system bound to Ling Ziling during secluded cultivation. It lets her simulate the lives of people belonging to the Azure Feather Dao Sect, including herself 2.
- Eligible subjects: Everyone listed in the sect, from the sect master to servant disciples 2.
- Initial benefit: One free simulation upon binding 2.
- Cost: A subject’s first simulation costs 3,000 Fortune Points; each subsequent simulation of that same person costs twice as much 2.
- Initial recovery rate: 100 Fortune Points per day, allowing a new first-time subject to be simulated after thirty days 2.
- Information gained: Written life histories reveal cultivation milestones, hidden allegiances, opportunities, and possible future events 2 10 37.
- Limitations: Textual descriptions can leave identities and causes unresolved. Qi Yue’s simulation, for example, does not immediately identify the masked agent controlling him 11.
- Changing outcomes: Her interventions alter later simulations. The sect’s fortune rises to 101 after the purge, then falls to 79 and eventually 45 in subsequent forecasts 17 35 38.
Ling Ziling interprets the simulator as a supreme Law Artifact associated with Heaven or a mighty being; this is her assessment rather than a confirmed explanation of its origin 2.
Cultivation and Combat
Ling Ziling ranks among the Southern Region’s strongest cultivators after reaching Spirit Transformation 2.
- Possesses an innate supreme-grade Metal Spirit Root, which she also recognizes as a promising foundation for Ye Tian’s future sword cultivation 2 30.
- Established her reputation by killing prominent demonic holy sons and holy maidens 2.
- In simulated return-journey ambushes, she secretly follows the sect’s disciples and kills attacking demonic elders, including three Nascent Soul peak-stage cultivators in Qi Yue’s simulation 11 30 34.
- Her early-stage cultivation is insufficient to operate the Azure Feather Ship at full power 40.
Sect Leadership and Intelligence
Ling Ziling combines undercover intelligence with simulator discoveries to investigate infiltration and prepare for war 11 16.
- Uses an existing list of minor spies as the justification for a sect-wide purge 11.
- Orders investigations to include outer disciples and chore disciples, rather than limiting scrutiny to senior members 11.
- Evaluates whether scarce resources, such as a Spirit Breaking Pill, can produce another Spirit Transformation cultivator 10.
- Seeks information about the wider Yellow Origin Realm after learning that the Spirit Medicine Realm attracts geniuses from beyond the Southern Region 30.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Jade Radiance Sword — Her named sword, which she handles while recalling her past during her first simulation 3.
- Spirit Breaking Pill — A precious pill intended to assist a breakthrough to Spirit Transformation. Its potential use is one reason she chooses to simulate Qi Yue 10.
- Azure Feather Ship — A thousand-zhang-long Spirit Treasure warship inherited from her father. It carries a bow cannon and rows of Spiritual Qi cannons. A full-powered strike requires vast resources and an owner at Spirit Transformation Late Stage, beyond Ling Ziling’s current cultivation 39 40.
- Immortal Alliance jade slip — Delivered by Ao Jin; contains the Spirit Medicine Realm’s schedule, entry allocation, and related instructions 12.
Relationships
- Ling Yue — Father and predecessor as sect master. He taught her cultivation, entrusted her with the Azure Feather Ship, and later died after answering an Immortal Alliance summons 2 12 37 40.
- Her mother — Her death drives Ling Ziling’s lifelong hostility toward the demonic sects. Simulations reveal that she was targeted for uncovering spies and lured into an ambush through Qi Yue 2 10 37.
- Wu Yuehua — Disciple. Ling Ziling admires her sword talent, determination, fortune, and loyalty. She knowingly allows a predicted ambush to unfold because it leads to Wu Yuehua’s rescue and further swordsmanship gains 17 24 30.
- Ye Tian — Prospective disciple whom she repeatedly accepts in simulated futures. She approves of his supreme-grade Metal Spirit Root and ability to recover from setbacks 3 30 34.
- Lin Wan’er — Simulated third disciple. Her reluctance to face danger and repeated failures of resolve lead Ling Ziling to reconsider accepting her in reality 34.
- Qi Yue — Seventh elder and covert collaborator with the Blood Demon Sect. Discovering his role in her mother’s death provokes overwhelming anger and prompts the purge 10 11.
- Luo Yun — Grand elder and formerly her most trusted remaining confidant. His simulation exposes him as a Blood Demon Sect spy and the architect of her mother’s murder; she resolves to eliminate him 37 38.
- Ao Jin — Immortal Alliance messenger. Ling Ziling treats him respectfully, recognizing that neither his Void Penetration cultivation nor the organization behind him can be opposed by her sect 12.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Discovering the Sect’s Destruction
Ling Ziling uses her free simulation on herself. It predicts a disastrous return from the Spirit Medicine Realm, escalating war, and the sect’s destruction when she is 260. In her final moments, an unidentified expert arrives through lightning and kills the demonic invaders with Azure Feather Swordsmanship 2 3.
The unexplained deaths of senior elders and the final sword strike lead her to suspect both internal betrayal and a hidden expert. She searches the sect and its back mountain, but finds no such senior 3 10 30.
Investigating the Sect Through Simulations
| Subject | Chapters | Main discovery and response |
|---|---|---|
| Qi Yue | 10 11 | Reveals demonic collusion, infiltration, and his role in luring her mother to her death. Ling Ziling initiates a sweeping purge. |
| Wu Yuehua | 16 17 | Reveals exceptional fortune and loyalty. The sect’s destruction is delayed by one year, proving that the predicted future can change. |
| Ye Tian | 30 | Reveals the combat value of poison-pill research, competition from other regions, and the eventual deaths of her disciples in war. |
| Lin Wan’er | 34 35 | Exposes weaknesses in Lin Wan’er’s character. A future attempt by Ling Ziling to aid the grand elder instead ends in an ambush and a sharp loss of sect fortune. |
| Luo Yun | 37 38 | Exposes the grand elder’s Blood Demon Sect origins, responsibility for her mother’s death, and continuing sabotage. Removing him becomes her immediate priority. |
Purging Demonic Spies
The purge uncovers spies across multiple ranks, but fails to locate the concealed agent behind Qi Yue 16.
| Rank | Captured |
|---|---|
| Nascent Soul elders | 3 16 |
| Golden Core stewards | 17 16 |
| Foundation Establishment disciples | 152 16 |
| Qi Refinement disciples | 846 16 |
Despite these results, Luo Yun remains concealed until she simulates him directly. His exposure also casts new suspicion on the many elders and gifted disciples who disappeared during her tenure 37.
Preparing for the Spirit Medicine Realm
With the sect’s predicted fortune reduced to forty-odd years, Ling Ziling abandons her more aggressive ideas and focuses on preserving its next generation. She sends three thousand Qi Refinement disciples to the Spirit Medicine Realm, urges them to prioritize survival, and offers uncapped contribution exchanges for the spirit medicines they obtain 39.
She plans to secretly meet the expedition on its return in half a year. She identifies two motives behind the expected Blood Demon Sect ambush: crippling a generation of Dao Sect disciples and seizing or destroying the Azure Feather Ship 40.
The expedition also deepens her doubts about the Immortal Alliance. Its repeated conscriptions remove the Southern Region’s strongest cultivators before they can fully develop, and none of those summoned over several thousand years has returned 40.
