Power Progression

  • The sect’s measurable progression is tracked through sect fortune, rather than a personal cultivation realm. Ling Ziling uses the Sect Simulator to explore futures and attempt to prevent its destruction 3 17.
Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Approximately 100 years of remaining fortune 3 The initial simulation predicts destruction when Ling Ziling reaches age 260, roughly a century after her present age of 160.
Sect fortune: 101 17 Following the spy purge, Wu Yuehua’s simulation places the sect’s destruction one year later than before, proving that its future can change.
Sect fortune: 79 35 Falls by 22 after Ling Ziling’s intervention in Lin Wan’er’s simulation leads to an ambush, a siege, and the destruction of the mountain-protecting formation.
Sect fortune: 45 38 Recorded after Luo Yun’s simulation reveals further infiltration, sabotage, and the destruction of the sect’s righteous allies.
  • Fortune also affects present conditions: after the fall to 79, medicinal-field survival rates decline slightly, and a recruitment held under those conditions would attract twenty percent fewer geniuses 35.

Organization

Leadership and Notable Members

  • Ling Ziling — Sect master and an early Spirit Transformation cultivator. Directs the spy purge and uses simulated lives to plan the sect’s survival 3 11 40.
  • Ling Yue — Previous sect master. Promoted Luo Yun before departing under the Immortal Alliance’s summons, unaware that he was a spy 37.
  • Luo Yun — Grand elder and Spirit Transformation cultivator. Secretly the son of the Blood Demon Sect’s grand elder and a long-established infiltrator 3 37.
  • Qi Yue — Seventh elder and late Nascent Soul cultivator. Coerced into serving the Blood Demon Sect and entrusted with escorting the Spirit Medicine Realm delegation 10 11 39.
  • Zheng Huaiyuan — Grandmaster alchemist of Wood Spirit Peak and master of Ye Xuan and Ji Fenghe. Gains an inner elder position after reaching Nascent Soul and agreeing to contribute a Nascent Soul Breakthrough Pill 21 33.
  • Wu Yuehua — Gifted swordswoman who entered the inner sect by winning the outer sect competition; teaches Azure Feather Swordsmanship at Dao Preaching Peak 10.
  • Ye Xuan — Initially a menial disciple, later an outer disciple under Zheng Huaiyuan. Conceals his true cultivation and independently rescues Wu Yuehua from demonic elders 1 9 25 35.
  • Ji Fenghe — Zheng Huaiyuan’s disciple and Ye Xuan’s senior brother; represents Wood Spirit Peak in an alchemy rivalry with Mo Qi 17 19.

Disciple Ranks and Advancement

Rank Access, Requirements, and Identifying Features
Menial disciple Lowest disciple tier. Must complete missions and pay sect contributions to remain; cannot enter the inner sect, and needs mission authorization to visit most outer peaks 1 3.
Outer disciple Receives broader access to outer peaks and improved accommodation. Ye Xuan registers after displaying fourth-layer Qi Refining cultivation; outer disciples wear blue robes 9 39.
Inner disciple Outer disciples normally qualify through a top competition placement or by reaching Foundation Establishment before age twenty. Exceptional recruits such as Ye Tian can enter directly; inner disciples wear white robes 21 30 39.
Personal disciple Distinguished by purple robes 39.
  • Late advancement: Older Foundation Establishment outer disciples remain outside the inner sect unless they eventually reach Nascent Soul and become inner elders 21.
  • Unequal resources: Outer elders pay several times more contribution points for many valuable ingredients, while some materials are unavailable to them altogether 33.
  • Alchemist reforms: Ling Ziling improves grandmaster alchemists’ treatment and relaxes promotion rules, enabling Zheng Huaiyuan’s appointment as an inner elder 33.

Rules and Discipline

  • Law Enforcement Hall: Investigates and eliminates demonic infiltrators, including disciples, stewards, and elders 11 12 16.
  • Undercover intelligence: The Dao Sect maintains its own agents inside demonic sects; their intelligence supplies Ling Ziling with an initial list of spies 11.
  • Lower-rank exploitation: Wang Liang extorts monthly Spirit Stones from nearby menial disciples under an outer disciple’s protection, threatening Ye Xuan’s ability to pay his sect contribution 1.

History

Succession and the Immortal Alliance

Ling Yue became sect master while Luo Yun was still an ordinary inner elder. When the Immortal Alliance later summoned the sect’s Spirit Transformation experts and stronger cultivators, Ling Yue departed, Ling Ziling inherited leadership, and Luo Yun became grand elder 3 37.

By Ling Ziling’s age 148, the Alliance reported that every cultivator conscripted from the Southern Region had died in battle. She entrusted internal affairs to the grand elder and entered seclusion, eventually reaching Spirit Transformation at age 158 3.

Demonic Infiltration and the Purge

After receiving the Sect Simulator, Ling Ziling discovered a future in which the Dao Sect was destroyed. Simulating Qi Yue exposed his role in her mother’s death and his involvement in bringing demonic disciples into the sect. She ordered a comprehensive purge, extending even to outer and menial disciples 2 3 10 11.

The operation uncovered infiltrators across multiple ranks. Hu Yi and Xu Li were among those killed by the Law Enforcement Hall, but the unidentified agent controlling Qi Yue remained undiscovered 12 16.

Captured Infiltrators Number
Nascent Soul elders 3 16
Golden Core stewards 17 16
Foundation Establishment disciples 152 16
Qi Refinement disciples 846 16

A later simulation identified Luo Yun as the hidden organizer. His history included arranging the death of Ling Ziling’s mother, recruiting infiltrators, wasting sect reserves, and engineering the former seventh elder’s death so that Qi Yue could replace him. Ling Ziling then focused on removing him and the remaining Blood Demon Sect agents 37 38.

Spirit Medicine Realm Expedition

The Immortal Alliance granted the Dao Sect three thousand places in the Spirit Medicine Realm, including five hundred reserved for outer disciples. More than one hundred thousand candidates competed for those outer places 15 35.

Ling Ziling emphasized survival and the world blessing available to disciples who reached Foundation Establishment inside the realm. She also offered unlimited contribution exchanges for recovered spirit medicine, with spirit pills and Law Treasures among the rewards 39.

Qi Yue escorted the delegation aboard the Azure Feather Ship while secretly preparing to help ambush the returning disciples and fake his death. Aware of the planned attack, Ling Ziling intended to meet the delegation secretly when it returned 39 40.

Expedition Detail Conditions

Simulated Destruction

  • Initial forecast: The Blood Demon Sect leader reaches late Spirit Transformation, the righteous faction collapses, and demonic forces storm Azure Feather Peak. A mysterious expert arrives with lightning and Azure Feather Swordsmanship, but Ling Ziling dies and the sect is destroyed 3.
  • Wu Yuehua’s future: The sect survives one additional year. Wu Yuehua refuses an Immortal Alliance elder’s offer that would require leaving the Dao Sect and later dies defending it 17.
  • Lin Wan’er’s future: Ling Ziling is gravely injured in an ambush. The sect retreats behind its mountain formation, which is eventually breached 34 35.
  • Luo Yun’s future: Sabotage helps the demonic sects destroy Flame Moon Valley and the Puppet Sect. The Dao Sect leads their remnants in resistance, while Luo Yun is killed before completing another betrayal 38.

Techniques and Resources

Sect Techniques

  • Azure Feather Swordsmanship — Taught publicly at Dao Preaching Peak and privately between disciples. Its appearance in unexplained simulated killings leads Ling Ziling to suspect an internal traitor or hidden expert 3 10 19.
  • Black Tiger Fist — Practiced among lower-ranking disciples. In the initial detailed simulation, it is the technique responsible for Qi Yue’s death 1 3.

Alchemy

  • Nascent Soul Breakthrough Pills: Periodically refined by the sect and awarded for major contributions. Internal demand is so high that they ordinarily do not reach outside markets 26 33.
  • Aptitude improvement: The sect uses pills to improve Spirit Roots; Zheng Huaiyuan supplies Ye Xuan with Marrow Cleansing Pills for this purpose 16 34.
  • Medicinal cultivation: Wood Spirit Peak’s medicinal fields support its alchemy work, with personnel recruited to develop newly allotted land 34.

Defensive and Transport Assets

  • Sect-protecting formation: Surrounds the sect, opens passages for authorized vessels, and shields inhabitants from Ao Jin’s overwhelming presence 12 21 39.
  • Flying shuttles: Provide sustained long-distance transport for disciples undertaking missions; Golden Core elders can travel aboard them 21.
  • Azure Feather Ship: A thousand-zhang Spirit Treasure warship and one of the sect’s major reserves 39.

Azure Feather Ship

  • Armament: A massive bow cannon and rows of Spiritual Qi cannons along its sides 39.
  • Durability: Qi Yue judges that even his full-strength attack could not leave a mark on it 39.
  • Control: Ling Ziling holds the main command token; Qi Yue operates it with a subsidiary token 39.
  • Reported combat record: Sect members recount that the previous master broke the Blood Demon Sect’s protective formation with three shots a century earlier 39.
  • Limitation: Full-powered attacks require immense resources and a controller at late Spirit Transformation. Ling Ziling cannot unleash its full power 40.

External Relationships

  • Immortal Alliance — Oversees the Southern Region’s sects, conscripts powerful cultivators, and controls access to the Spirit Medicine Realm. Ling Ziling questions its repeated conscriptions, which have prevented generations of sect geniuses from maturing 3 12 40.
  • Flame Moon Valley — Righteous ally; its representatives approach the Dao Sect delegation at Yellow Moon Valley 40.
  • Puppet Sect — Righteous ally. Together with Flame Moon Valley and the Dao Sect, forms the three-sect righteous coalition 40.
  • Blood Demon Sect — Mortal enemy responsible for infiltration, assassinations, and the planned attack on the Spirit Medicine Realm delegation 11 37 39 40.
  • Shadow Demon Sect — One of the Five Upper Sects. Joins the Blood Demon Sect’s attack on Flame Moon Valley in Luo Yun’s simulated future; Ling Ziling suspects, but does not establish, its involvement in another hidden force 38.
  • Subordinate sects and mortal powers — Receive the Dao Sect’s protection and can request assistance through its city-based mission network 21.
