Organization and Leadership
Central Authority
- Zhou Qiong — Sect Master: Holds final authority over appointments, military campaigns, cultivation resources, and territorial expansion. By the continental conquest, his orders are treated as absolute 7 25 27.
- Liansheng — Chief Steward: Appointed after Zhou Qiong secured the leadership. Although the office initially carried little formal authority, Liansheng stood below only the Sect Master and later commanded major campaigns 4 15 25.
- Protectors: Replaced the Elders’ Council by Zhou Qiong’s decree. The former Grand Elder accepted the abolition of the council without resistance 7.
Protectors
| Position | Members |
|---|---|
| Grand Protector | Bai Haotian, formerly the Grand Elder 15 33 |
| Other original protectors | Ning Wu, Wei Xiao, Sun Hao, Zheng Yuan, Chu Tianhe, Han Xu, and Yang Rong 33 |
| Upper Realm addition | Elder Mu, city lord of Black King City, who submits and becomes a protector 41 42 |
Four Halls
| Hall | Hall Master |
|---|---|
| Azure Dragon Hall | Li Changsheng 33 |
| Black Tortoise Hall | Wan Li 33 |
| White Tiger Hall | Chu Kaishan 33 |
| Vermilion Bird Hall | Bing Li 33 |
- The halls maintain subordinate branches. Branch masters receive cultivation manuals and medicinal pills, with some advancing to Martial Emperor during the continental campaign 24.
- Li Changsheng remains in the Lower Realm after the initial ascension, overseeing recruitment and issuing orders from Azure Dragon Hall before later ascending himself 33 49.
Twelve Demon Kings
- The Twelve Demon Kings are trusted followers promoted by Zhou Qiong during his first two years consolidating the sect 7.
- Demon Rat King Chen Shu leads the group. Other documented titles include Demon Bull King, Demon Tiger King, Demon Monkey King, Demon Dragon King, and Demon Snake King 6 33 50.
- They receive Demon Ascension Pills to accelerate their breakthroughs and serve as the designated vanguard for the East Sea campaign 6 7.
- Xiong Ba serves beneath the Demon Tiger King as a Lord Tiger Guard, carrying a token marked with “tiger” and “Xiong” to identify his position 28.
Heaven, Earth, Profound, and Yellow Divisions
- Four masked divisions answer only to Zhou Qiong; even Liansheng has no authority over them 25.
- Their members wear diamond, gold, silver, or bronze masks and conceal their faces from other senior sect members 25 33.
- Duties include intelligence gathering, investigating hidden experts, transmitting orders, and scouting territories for conquest 12 25 33 44.
- Even their weakest members are Martial Emperors during the continental campaign. The later Dark Division cultivation manual is particularly suited to them 25 44.
History
Founding and Succession Crisis
The Heavenly Devil God founded the Demon Sect more than a thousand years before Zhou Qiong’s reforms. Since the founder’s era, the sect had never possessed two Martial Sovereigns simultaneously until its rapid growth under Zhou Qiong 7.
Zhou Shentong’s unexpected death when his son was eighteen plunged the organization into turmoil. Zhou Qiong spent two years stabilizing the sect and securing its leadership. He later suffered fatal Qi deviation while secluded with severe injuries, allowing a transmigrator of the same name to take over his body 1.
The new Zhou Qiong initially faced subordinates who did not fully accept his authority. He publicly subdued the Third Elder for opposing an order and sentenced him to a year at Reflection Cliff. His cultivation gifts, Liansheng’s advancement, and the appearance of the demon dragon carriage subsequently weakened the Elders’ Council’s influence 1 2 6.
Renewed Attacks and the East Sea Campaign
After Jade Dragon Sword Sect disciples killed members of the Demon Sect, Zhou Qiong ordered the Demon Tiger King and Demon Monkey King to annihilate their sect. Liansheng intervened when Ximen Di attempted to kill the two Demon Kings, forcing him to flee severely wounded 2 3 4.
The sect then prepared for an East Sea beast tide, distributing new cultivation arts and appointing the Twelve Demon Kings as its vanguard. Zhou Qiong personally led the expedition aboard his flying carriage. His battle with Su Huang led to the release of the fallen angel Luna, whom he killed before returning to headquarters 6 8 10 11.
Destruction of the Continental Powers
Liansheng commanded the assault on Golden Mountain Temple. Bai Haotian took Abbot Wuwo’s final attack to create an opening for Liansheng to kill him. The temple was exterminated in less than four hours; the Demon Sect’s reported casualties were below one-tenth of its deployed forces 15 16 18.
The army proceeded to Hanging Void Hall, where Daoist Qingping’s secret art inflicted serious injuries on senior sect members. Zhou Qiong ultimately killed the intervening Ximen Tian, and Hanging Void Hall was destroyed. The Ten Thousand Swords Sect subsequently disbanded rather than face the Demon Sect 19 20 21.
Zhou Qiong then launched a campaign to dominate Cangwu Continent. The Great Yu Dynasty was destroyed, while the Great Wilderness Dynasty, Great Qian Dynasty, Yellow Sand Fort, and Talisman Sect submitted and agreed to annual tribute 24 26 27.
Mass Ascension
After learning that a dormant passage could be reopened with energy stones, Zhou Qiong challenged his followers to accompany him into the Upper Realm. The sect pledged its loyalty, and he expanded access to cultivation resources to prepare them for ascension 23 24 27.
The sect built Invincible City around the restored passage. Liansheng led the initial ascension, but Blue Rain Clan guards attempted to force the arrivals to surrender. As more Demon Sect experts emerged, they reversed the battle and killed more than half the guards before Lanyu Ting summoned the Eternal Hegemon Lanyu Wu 29 30.
Zhou Qiong established a new headquarters on a barren mountain ten thousand miles outside Black King City. The sect constructed palaces, roads, and waterways and named the mountain Heavenly Demon Peak 33.
Expansion in the Land of Chaos
Following the secret-realm expedition associated with Elder Mu’s birthday celebration, Zhou Qiong compelled Elder Mu to become a protector. At his command, the city lord’s estate destroyed the Blue Rain Clan, Ghost Clan, Ox-Headed Clan, One-Eyed Clan, and Great River Gang. The Red Fox Clan fled, while the Flower Clan submitted 41 42.
Black King City’s resources supported two years of intensive growth. Zhou Qiong then demanded Heavenly Sea City’s submission within three days and mobilized his army when the Hong Family resisted. After occupying the city, he ordered Liansheng and Bai Haotian to take Desolate Mountain City and Lishui City 44 45 46 47 48.
Desolate Mountain City’s four remaining major factions killed Meng Tu and exterminated his Giant Race for refusing surrender, then submitted to Liansheng. Bai Haotian also secured a city without resistance. With four cities under its control, the sect entered a temporary quiet period before preparing an expedition to Half-Saint ruins 48 49 50.
Cultivation and Resources
Cultivation Arts
| Art | Access and Significance |
|---|---|
| Heavenly Demon Scripture | Reserved for successive Sect Masters; counted among the four surviving Martial God-level cultivation arts on Cangwu Continent 6. |
| Demon Soldier Art and Demon King Art | Made compulsory for sect members as part of Zhou Qiong’s cultivation reforms 6. |
| Demon Emperor Art | High-tier Emperor Grade art with integrative properties. Initially granted free to senior members in recognition of past contributions; later practiced by qualifying branch masters 6 24. |

Cultivation Grounds and Rewards
- Demon Saint Hall: Houses the Small Ten Thousand Demons Pool. Entry requires earned merit, and Zhou Qiong later opens it to anyone who contributes to the sect 27 33.
- Great Demon Saint Hall: Houses the Great Ten Thousand Demons Pool, reportedly more than ten times as effective as the smaller pool 27.
- Service rewards: Following continental unification, Liansheng receives three months in the Great Ten Thousand Demons Pool; other protectors, hall masters, and Demon Kings receive one month 27.
- Medicinal support: Pills are distributed to branch officers and senior fighters, including Demon Ascension Pills for the Twelve Demon Kings 7 24.
- Energy mines: Black King City’s former major factions provide eleven high-grade and fifty mid-grade energy mines after their territories are absorbed 44.
Headquarters and Equipment
- Lower Realm Heavenly Demon Peak: Original headquarters and continuing recruitment center after the initial mass ascension 12 33.
- Heavenly Devil Hall: Court assembly hall containing the Sect Master’s demonic dragon throne. After Zhou Qiong ascends, statues of the leadership are used to introduce recruits to the hierarchy 1 33.
- True Demon Mountain-Protecting Formation: Installed over the original headquarters, replacing its old formations and increasing Spiritual Qi enough to trigger widespread breakthroughs 12.
- Upper Realm Heavenly Demon Peak: Protected by the upgraded Great True Demon Mountain-Protecting Formation, a True Martial-grade defense that even a True Martial expert would struggle to breach 33.
- Black Dragon Flying Carriage: Zhou Qiong’s mountain-sized transport, pulled by a thousand-foot Martial Emperor-level devil dragon; used for major expeditions 5 8 46.
- Invincible City ascension passage: Restored using energy stones. It permits one-way travel to the Upper Realm and later opens annually to cultivators from all factions 23 29 49.
Recruitment and Doctrine
- Recruits pass multiple selection rounds, learn the sect’s rules, and swear loyalty to the Sect Master unto death 33.
- Advancement is supported by contribution-based access to superior manuals and cultivation grounds 6 27 33.
- Territorial expansion combines offers of submission with extermination of resisting powers. The Talisman Sect, for example, is offered survival in exchange for submission and annual tribute 24 26.
- Zhou Qiong favors strengthening the sect through warfare rather than waiting for prolonged peaceful development, accepting that some promising members will die in the process 45.
- The sect’s Upper Realm influence exempts ascenders from Cangwu Continent from the usual compulsory slavery, including those who are not Demon Sect members 49.
