Background / History

Life on Earth and Arrival in Azeroth

Aaron was an office worker who played World of Warcraft casually. He disliked scheduled guild raids and prolonged grinding, preferring to level alternate characters and farm old raids for mounts. After finishing his weekly runs and going to sleep, he awoke in unfamiliar wilderness wearing only shorts 1.

He could inexplicably understand the local language, and his body had become that of a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old. He found an inn willing to exchange bread for chores and slept on planks and straw in its basement storeroom. Initially assuming he had reached an ordinary medieval world, he recognized Azeroth only after seeing a high elf and connecting the local names of Lordaeron, Alterac, and Dalaran with his game knowledge 1 2.

The elf proved to be Vereesa Windrunner. Recognizing her mission to escort Rhonin helped Aaron place himself after the Second War. He hoped that contact with the Bronze Dragon Aspect might offer a route home, but first needed enough strength to survive the journey 3.

Rhonin’s Escort and the Grim Batol Rescue

After discovering the mysterious book and its paladin equipment, Aaron persuaded Rhonin to hire him as a guard for ten gold coins. His initial motives included earning money and gaining access to important figures, but the assignment quickly exposed him to dragon attacks and the dangers his incomplete memories could not predict 4 5 6.

During the journey, he protected both Rhonin and Vereesa with Holy Light. The Silver Hand detained the party despite recognizing his powers, since he had no known affiliation with the order. When Deathwing abducted Rhonin and demolished part of their camp’s wall, Aaron saved a nearby paladin but was injured beneath the rubble 6 7 8 10.

Aaron later joined Falstad’s gryphon riders. During an aerial battle, he boarded a red dragon and killed its orc rider with Vereesa’s assistance. Unable to control the freed dragon, he fell toward the sea and survived by summoning a gryphon beneath himself. Deathwing then seized Rhonin again, prompting Aaron, Vereesa, and Falstad to pursue him 15 16 17.

Their search led through a quicksand trap, an underground fight against three Vilebranch trolls, and contact with Krasus. Aaron confronted Krasus over using Rhonin as a pawn and revealed that he knew the archmage’s draconic identity. The party entered Grim Batol and rescued Rhonin, but a flame golem’s explosion knocked Aaron unconscious. Vereesa freed him from the rubble, and Rhonin teleported the group to safety 19 21 22 23.

Dalaran and Lordaeron

After the mission, Aaron accepted Vereesa’s invitation to visit Quel’Thalas and traveled with her and Rhonin to Dalaran. He also decided to seek Truthguard on the Broken Isles, viewing stronger equipment as a practical defense against Azeroth’s future disasters 26 28.

While touring Dalaran, he wished for world peace at the Wishing Well and encountered Kel’Thuzad. A summons from King Terenas delayed his departure, and Kael’thas escorted the companions to Lordaeron. At the royal banquet, Aaron met Arthas and Uther; his genuine Holy Light powers and heroic deeds did not entirely dispel Uther’s concern about his untraceable background 29 32 34 36.

Aaron subsequently accompanied the investigation of Lord Prestor’s residence. He helped defeat and capture three Blackscale Dragonspawn, then found a notebook among surviving magical implements and began studying its human-language notes 38 39.

Xal’atath and the Journey toward Quel’Thalas

Traveling with Vereesa, Aaron visited Nathanos Marris, who warned them about nearby profane rituals. Their investigation brought Aaron into conflict with Shadow Priests and Faceless Ones. A priest nearly overwhelmed his will, but an unidentified presence within Aaron dispelled the influence. A further burst of golden power enabled him to kill the priest’s enormous transformed body 41 43 44.

The discarded dagger Xal’atath then became the focus of a struggle Aaron could not control. Holy Light poured through his body into the weapon while he endured repeated nightmares of catastrophic deaths. The book in his mind eventually swallowed a black shadow from the dagger. Aaron remained unconscious for three days as the infusion continued 45 46.

After waking, he discovered that the dagger had become a gold-and-white hilt capable of forming a Holy Light rapier. He resumed traveling with Vereesa after recovering. On the road, he intervened against trolls pursuing an elven party, was shot down by an apparition of Jan’alai, and survived until rangers from Quel’Lithien Lodge drove the attackers away. He healed the wounded and met Liadrin, whom he recognized as the future leader of the blood elf paladins 46 48 49.

Appearance

  • Human form: A black-haired boy who appears sixteen or seventeen. His body was rejuvenated during transmigration 1.
  • Build: Shorter than Vereesa by more than half a head; an orc opponent regards him as smaller and thinner than most humans 2 16.
  • Armor: Gleaming golden plate with a golden circlet floating above his head 3.
  • Travel clothing: Sometimes dismisses his conspicuous armor and wears ordinary, well-fitting clothes purchased in Lordaeron 41.
  • Transformed form: The Orb of the Sin’dorei gives him longer limbs, long ears, golden hair, and green eyes 11.

Personality

Aaron is curious, irreverent, and prone to interpreting Azeroth through gaming references. His excitement at seeing familiar characters and creatures initially obscures the reality of his displacement. After nearly dying in aerial combat, he begins seriously confronting the possibility that he may never return home 1 7 17.

His desire to survive coexists with a willingness to protect others. He intervenes to prevent excessive violence at the inn, stays beside Rhonin despite the Silver Hand’s hostility toward mages, and objects when Krasus treats the mage as expendable. Unlike the paladins Rhonin initially encounters, Aaron shows no prejudice against his profession 2 8 21 28.

He is neither fearless nor an experienced killer. He trembles before an orc, is shaken after delivering the killing blow, and repeatedly survives mistakes through healing, defensive powers, or help from companions. By the troll encounter near Quel’Thalas, his former squeamishness has diminished, though the treatment of fallen enemies still upsets him 16 44 48.

Aaron also distrusts power he cannot understand. Although the presence behind his Holy Light repeatedly protects him, its ability to seize his body leaves him afraid that it might eventually override or erase his consciousness 44 45 46.

Abilities & Skills

Protection Paladin Skills

Aaron’s initial skill set emphasizes defense, healing, and close combat 3.

  • Shield of the Righteous and Hammer of the Righteous: The two offensive skills initially available through the book 3.
  • Light of the Protector: Heals Aaron and other people; he repeatedly uses it on Rhonin and injured companions 6 10 22 23.
  • Blessing of Sacrifice: Protects another person by allowing Aaron to bear harm on their behalf; used during dragon attacks 3 6 10.
  • Ardent Defender: A personal defensive skill that reduces harm, but does not prevent injury from Deathwing’s destruction of the wall 10.
  • Divine Shield: Grants temporary protection. Aaron can apply it to himself or others and uses its protection to attack recklessly against stronger opponents 6 10 19.
  • Hammer of Judgement: A ranged hammer formed from Holy Light, capable of knocking enemies down 19 47.
  • Bouncing shield attack: Strikes multiple targets after being thrown; first demonstrated against two panicked horses 6.
  • Consecration: Demonstrated to Liadrin as evidence of his paladin abilities 49.

Holy Light Manipulation

The book within Aaron’s consciousness continuously radiates Holy Light. Following the confrontation with Xal’atath, he can manipulate that power more flexibly rather than relying exclusively on listed skills 3 46.

  • Can channel Holy Light into a weapon hilt to generate a stable blade 46.
  • Uses Holy Light to destroy a severed Faceless One tentacle 43.
  • Receives involuntary healing and empowerment from an unidentified source during a lethal confrontation 44.
  • Cannot reliably control that source: it commandeers his body during the struggle with Xal’atath and continues acting while he is unconscious 45 46.

Mount Summoning

Aaron can summon unlocked mounts from his former game collection 3 5.

  • Available examples include horses, a Chauffeured Chopper, and a snowy gryphon 5 13 15.
  • His summoned mount does not automatically disappear when combat begins 15.
  • He can summon a gryphon in midair to arrest a fall 16.
  • His gryphon shows no stamina problem during the pursuit of Deathwing, but cannot match the dragon’s speed or prevent him from escaping through cloud cover 17.
  • Fine control remains difficult: an attempted command to seize an orc makes the gryphon claw at the target instead 16.

Knowledge of Azeroth

Aaron remembers major historical events, future identities, and some artifact locations from World of Warcraft 3 4 28.

  • Recognizes figures including Vereesa, Deathwing, Falstad, and Liadrin 3 10 14 49.
  • Knows that Nekros controls the Red Dragonflight through the Dragon Soul and that Krasus is a red dragon 21 23.
  • Remembers Truthguard’s location well enough to plan an expedition to the Broken Isles 28.
  • His knowledge is fragmentary: he often remembers broad outcomes without knowing the intervening events, making detailed plans based on foreknowledge unreliable 4.

Limitations

  • Lacks formal paladin training and cannot explain how to train Liadrin despite possessing paladin powers himself 3 49.
  • Can be outmatched in physical strength and technique by experienced enemies 16 19.
  • Has finite personal stamina and nearly collapses after defeating three trolls 19.
  • Divine Shield is temporary; its expiration leaves him vulnerable to the flame golem’s explosion 22.
  • Considers himself physically inept without Holy Light and has no demonstrated means of resisting its controlling presence 46.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mysterious Silver Hand-emblazoned book — Stores his equipment, mounts, toys, and skills. Initially used by touching its icons, it later enters his consciousness. Its origin remains unknown 3 46.
  • Holy Light Apostle’s Radiant Set — Golden plate armor matching the T20 set Aaron collected in the game; can be summoned and dismissed 3.
  • Glorious Dawnblade and shield — His initial Lightforging-series armaments, obtained alongside the armor 3.
  • Orb of the Sin’dorei — A toy that temporarily transforms him into a high elf 11.
  • Thorn of the Holy Light — The name Aaron gives the rapier formed from Xal’atath’s transformed hilt. Its translucent blade extends more than half a meter and remains stable after he stops supplying power 46 48.
  • Krasus’s pendant — A communication item recovered from a red dragon and retained by Aaron during the Grim Batol rescue 22 23.
  • Notebook from Prestor’s residence — Contains rambling human-language notes that attract Aaron’s interest 39.
  • Truthguard — sought, not acquired — The shield he intends to find on the Broken Isles to improve his chances against future catastrophes 28.

Relationships

  • Vereesa Windrunner — Traveling companion whose initial hostility gives way to trust. She assists him in battle, frees him from rubble, watches over his recovery, and invites him to Quel’Thalas 2 12 16 23 26 46.
  • Rhonin — Employer and eventual friend. Aaron repeatedly protects, heals, and helps rescue him; afterward, he urges Rhonin to study more defensive magic 5 6 22 28.
  • Falstad Wildhammer — Aerial ally and fellow participant in the search for Rhonin. Warns Aaron about gryphon handling and accompanies the pursuit of Deathwing 15 17.
  • Krasus — Mission contact whom Aaron challenges over concealing his plan and endangering Rhonin. Aaron knows his draconic identity before openly confronting him about it 9 21.
  • Duncan — Silver Hand paladin who detains the party and questions Aaron’s lack of an order emblem, but accepts that he may have private reasons for concealing his origins 7 8.
  • Uther — Silver Hand leader wary of Aaron’s completely blank background despite his authentic powers and heroic actions 36.
  • Nathanos Marris — Host and ally during the investigation of nearby Shadow Priests. Knocks Aaron unconscious when the confrontation with Xal’atath leaves him out of control 41 45 46.
  • Stephen — Nathanos’s younger cousin and a paladin squire. Pulls Aaron away from a dying Faceless One, later helps care for him, and admires his extraordinary Holy Light output 44 46.
  • Liadrin — An elven military priest whom Aaron heals and meets on the road. He considers teaching her paladin skills but recognizes that he does not know how to train someone else 49.
  • Xal’atath — Hostile dagger entity involved in a struggle with the power inside Aaron. The book swallows a shadow from the weapon, after which its transformed hilt becomes Aaron’s rapier 45 46.
  • Deathwing — Repeated adversary whose abductions of Rhonin draw Aaron into rescue attempts; Aaron is unable to match him directly 10 17.

Trivia

  • Aaron’s first mistaken estimate places him during the Second War; recognizing Vereesa’s mission corrects that estimate to its aftermath 1 3.
  • His casual gaming priorities carry over into Azeroth: he immediately recognizes his favorite armor set and regrets that his initial weapons are not artifacts 3.
  • He unexpectedly understands a Faceless One’s speech despite not recognizing its language; the reason is not explained 43.
  • At Lordaeron’s banquet, his youthful appearance leads nobles to regard him as no more than a paladin’s squire, although he does not formally hold even that position 36.
