Arc 20From Maraudon to the Broken Isles

Aaron helped Zaetar and the centaurs begin restoring Desolace, then uncovered Xavius’s attack on the Shen'dralar Ancients and sought a new energy source for them. He reached the Eye of Azshara with Vereesa and Archaedas, where they encountered Athissa and the Naga.

  • Aaron persuaded Theradras to stop draining Desolace and enter a portal to Deepholm, while Zaetar led centaurs in restoring the land and warned that corruption might be spreading from Feralas.
  • Aaron and Vereesa investigated Eldre'Thalas, where they discovered Xavius empowering the Satyrs and attacking the Shen'dralar Ancients.
  • Aaron and Prince Tortheldrin fought Xavius, but Tortheldrin sacrificed himself to destroy Immol'thar and prevent Xavius from taking control of his body.
  • Aaron learned that the Shen'dralar Ancients had only a short time before their magical reserves ran out, and promised Mordent Evenshade he would seek a solution.
  • Aaron consulted Archaedas and Mimiron, then used a Titan teleporter to reach the Eye of Azshara with Vereesa and Archaedas.
  • Archaedas cleared a path through the Naga, while Aaron and Vereesa fought their attackers before flying after him as Athissa summoned a monster from the whirlpool.
Chapters 476–500 Vol. 5 Read

Ch. 476Landslide the Mountain Giant

Aaron and his companions were teleported to a crystal cavern in Maraudon, where the Mountain Giant Landslide attacked them to keep them away from Princess Theradras. After recognizing Aaron’s Silver Hand and hearing about Desolace, Landslide agreed to lead them to Theradras so they could discover whether she was responsible.

  • Aaron fell asleep while Celebras finished preparing a nature-based portal, then woke to find it ready.
  • Aaron, Celebras, Cavindra, and Vereesa emerged among white crystals and realized they had not arrived at Zaetar’s tomb.
  • The Mountain Giant Landslide charged at the group and attacked Aaron, declaring that he would not let them approach Princess Theradras.
  • Landslide recognized Aaron’s Silver Hand and asked about his connection to Lord Tyr, so Aaron explained his mission and Desolace’s condition.
  • Landslide agreed to guide Aaron and his companions to Theradras, though he remained uncertain that she was the culprit.

Ch. 477Maraudon's underground ecosystem

Aaron’s group traveled with Landslide through Maraudon’s flourishing underground ecosystem and learned how Theradras’s presence had transformed the caverns. They reached the stone bridge to her island, with Landslide deciding to accompany them despite his uncertainty about facing her.

  • Landslide explained that Zaetar’s ability to nurture plants had enriched the caverns, while his account suggested Theradras’s arrival had brought even more life underground.
  • Landslide recalled Zaetar and Theradras arguing over their aggressive Centaur children and admitted he had once developed feelings for Theradras.
  • Aaron’s group encountered stone giants blocking the only path, and Aaron threw them into an underground lake rather than kill them.
  • Landslide explained that Theradras’s influence had altered the nearby Mountain Giants and nearly changed him as well.
  • Landslide decided to accompany Aaron across the stone bridge toward Theradras’s island, and Aaron sensed the mission might not end with simply killing her.

Ch. 478Theradras's answer

Aaron confronted Theradras beneath Maraudon and fought her after she refused to return the life force she had drained from Desolace. As Aaron prepared a decisive blow, a vine tripped him and shattered part of the island, revealing an unknown attacker.

  • Aaron and his companions reached Zaetar's grave, where Theradras confronted them and demanded to know why Landslide had brought outsiders.
  • Aaron asked Theradras to return Desolace's life force, but she refused and hurled a boulder at him; Landslide knocked it away.
  • Aaron transformed into a stone giant and charged Theradras, while her earthquakes left Vereesa, Celebras, and Cavindra struggling near the island's edge.
  • Aaron and Theradras fought with weapons and spells until Aaron abandoned his shield and raised his enlarged warhammer for a powerful strike.
  • A vine caught Aaron's ankle and made his hammer smash the island's edge, causing nearly half the island to fall into the underground lake as Aaron searched for the hidden attacker.

Ch. 479Zaetar's choice

Zaetar persuaded Theradras to stop draining Desolace’s life force and accept that he could not return to the world. When Theradras chose to go to Deepholm, Aaron arranged for Archaedas to help send her there, leaving Zaetar to begin restoring the land.

  • Zaetar appeared and asked Aaron to spare Theradras, offering to take responsibility for her actions.
  • Zaetar convinced Theradras to stop draining Desolace’s life force, and she offered to give up her power to restore the land.
  • Zaetar explained that he could live in the Emerald Dream but could not return to reality, so Theradras decided to go to Deepholm.
  • Theradras failed to open a passage to Deepholm, and Aaron contacted Archaedas to help her enter.
  • Archaedas arrived in Maraudon a week later, and Zaetar calmed Theradras so Archaedas could begin opening the passage.

Ch. 480Zaetar's plan

After Theradras and Landslide entered the portal to Deepholm, Zaetar began rebuilding Desolace and leading the Centaurs who wished to follow him. As Zaetar prepared to share a troubling discovery with Aaron, he warned that it might concern the Emerald Dream.

  • Archaedas opened a portal to Deepholm, and Theradras entered it after saying goodbye to Zaetar.
  • Landslide followed Theradras through the portal, and Aaron watched as Archaedas closed it.
  • Zaetar told Aaron that he planned to gather his less violent descendants and let them help restore Desolace; he also explained why he had been unable to communicate from his tomb.
  • Zaetar announced himself to the Maraudine Centaurs and led several hundred of them out of the Valley of Spears, despite most of them reacting coldly.
  • Zaetar restored a patch of grassland north of the Kodo Graveyard, but stopped when the effort strained his soul.
  • Zaetar asked Aaron to tell his father and Queen Ysera about something he had remembered, warning that it might be connected to the Emerald Dream.

Ch. 481Traces of the Nightmare

Zaetar warned Aaron that nightmares he had sensed might be connected to corruption spreading from Feralas through a World Tree, and Aaron agreed to investigate. After helping Zaetar gather centaurs and Tauren shamans to restore Desolace, Aaron left for Feralas with Vereesa and Archaedas, who revealed that a portal between Un'Goro and Sholazar might be working.

  • Zaetar told Aaron that his nightmares seemed to come from the south, possibly from Feralas, and warned that corruption could spread through its World Tree into the Emerald Dream and reality.
  • Aaron agreed to investigate Feralas and promised to help Zaetar gather centaurs from the other tribes.
  • Zaetar gathered over a thousand centaurs, while Gurda Wildmane and other Tauren shamans joined his effort to restore Desolace.
  • Aaron left the growing oasis for Feralas with Vereesa and Archaedas.
  • Archaedas said he needed to travel south toward Northrend, prompting Aaron to ask whether the portal between Un'Goro and Sholazar was working.

Ch. 482News from Northrend

Aaron learned that Mimiron had repaired the portal between Un'Goro and Sholazar Basin, and Archaedas brought him news of the keepers' work in Northrend. After giving Aaron a ley line communicator, Archaedas joined Aaron and Vereesa as they flew toward Feralas.

  • Aaron asked Archaedas about the repaired portal, and Archaedas explained that Mimiron had finished it recently and that he had used it to reach Maraudon.
  • Archaedas told Aaron that the keepers were clearing Yogg-Saron's remains and making new bodies for souls collected by Azeroth, while Mimiron repaired teleportation facilities.
  • Archaedas explained that Hodir and Thorim were leading their followers in removing Yogg-Saron's tentacles, while Freya remained in the Emerald Dream.
  • Archaedas gave Aaron a miniaturized ley line communicator from Mimiron so Aaron could contact the keepers directly.
  • Vereesa returned with her Hippogryph and Lightning, and Aaron, Archaedas, and Vereesa flew toward Feralas.

Ch. 483Emeriss, Dragon of the Dream

Aaron and Vereesa investigated the World Tree in Feralas, where Emeriss confirmed it was safe and identified the Satyr Alzzin as the source of corruption. They headed to Eldre'Thalas to confront him, but their search uncovered a coughing Orc hiding among the ruins.

  • Aaron and Vereesa crossed into Feralas, and Archaedas left to join Mimiron.
  • Emeriss recognized Aaron and explained that Ysera and Freya had found no Emerald Nightmare spreading from the World Tree.
  • Emeriss told Aaron that Alzzin and his Satyrs sought to corrupt Feralas, and Aaron offered to help kill him.
  • Aaron and Vereesa flew to Eldre'Thalas and used a smoke bomb to search the ruins.
  • A dagger-wielding Orc emerged from the smoke, and Vereesa drew her bow on him.

Ch. 484Garona the Half-Orc

Aaron and Vereesa encountered Garona the half-orc in Kalimdor and learned she was hunting the Twilight's Hammer. Garona planned to assassinate the Gordunni ogre leader Gordok to prevent Cho'gall from gaining allies.

  • Garona dodged Vereesa's arrow, declared she was not an enemy, and objected to being called an Orc.
  • Aaron recognized Garona and learned she had hidden the Kingslayers so Gul'dan could no longer control her.
  • Garona explained that she was pursuing Cho'gall's Twilight's Hammer messenger, who had gone to contact the Gordunni Ogres in Eldre'Thalas.
  • Garona said she had lost track of the messenger and intended to kill Gordok herself, then hunt down Cho'gall's other followers.

Ch. 485The Ogres' Ambush

After Garona left to pursue Cho'gall's messenger, Aaron and Vereesa searched Eldre'Thalas for Satyrs and were caught in an ogre ambush. The ogres attacked the wrong targets, and Aaron launched a counterattack while protecting Vereesa.

  • Aaron warned Garona that killing Gordok could give Cho'gall an opening, so she left to follow the Orc messenger instead.
  • Aaron and Vereesa searched the ruins for Satyrs, and Vereesa spotted creatures lying in ambush.
  • Groups of ogres surrounded them, and Aaron used Xal'atath to learn that they were arguing about their targets.
  • Cho'gall's female Orc messenger berated the ogres for ambushing a human and an elf instead of Garona, then left.
  • Vereesa fired lightning-charged arrows at the charging ogres, while Aaron shielded her and spun Frostmourne and Strom'kar through their attackers.

Ch. 486Ambush and Counterambush

Aaron and Vereesa fought off an ogre ambush, then spotted satyrs attacking and capturing the ogres. They followed the satyrs to learn what they planned to do, suspecting it was connected to Aaron’s investigation.

  • Aaron switched places with Vereesa and fought the ogres while she attacked from behind him.
  • The two-headed ogres ordered a retreat when their spells and fighters failed to overcome Aaron, and he avoided pursuing them into their lair.
  • Aaron summoned a gryphon, and he and Vereesa flew away from the corridor to avoid another ambush.
  • Vereesa spotted satyrs trapping the ogres in a passage, where they used Rain of Fire and fel spells to subdue and bind them.
  • Aaron and Vereesa decided to follow the satyrs and find out what they intended to do with their prisoners.

Ch. 487The Nightmare Lord

Aaron and Vereesa watched the satyrs use fel magic to transform captured ogres into two-headed spellcasters, then saw the satyr leader summon an apparition of Xavius. Xavius addressed the satyrs and enveloped them in black smoke, leaving Aaron to consider contacting Ysera.

  • The satyrs channeled fel into captured ogres, killing many and transforming the survivors into purple-skinned two-headed spellcasters.
  • Vereesa spotted a leather-armored elf spying on the satyrs, and Aaron and Vereesa recognized that they had now seen all three factions in the ruins.
  • A powerful satyr leader arrived and ordered the satyrs and transformed ogres to drain the remaining ogres of their life force.
  • The satyr leader lit a brazier and summoned a black-and-red apparition of Xavius.
  • Xavius spoke to the satyrs, then covered them in black smoke as their roars sounded from within it.

Ch. 488Xavius's scheme

Xavius empowered the Satyrs of Eldre'Thalas and ordered them to attack the Shen'dralar Ancients, while Aaron and Vereesa followed to see what the Satyrs could do. The attack was stopped by unexpected combatants whom Aaron mistook for Demon Hunters.

  • Aaron suspected the Infinite Dragonflight had altered events, but Yogg-Saron had actually used his final strength to empower and manipulate Xavius.
  • Xavius gathered the Eldre'Thalas Satyrs, strengthened them with nightmare power, and planned to seize the ruins and use their ancient texts before spreading corruption toward a nearby World Tree.
  • Xavius ordered the Satyrs to attack the Shen'dralar Ancients, then withdrew his projection as Aaron and Vereesa watched from hiding.
  • Aaron decided not to call Archaedas for reinforcements and followed the Satyrs with Vereesa to the Shen'dralar settlement.
  • The Satyrs clashed with the settlement's prepared defenders, and Aaron was astonished to see fighters he thought were Demon Hunters stop their advance.

Ch. 489Satyrs against elves

Aaron watched the Shen'dralar Ancients repel the Satyrs with transformed Warlocks and coordinated spellcasters, though the Felhounds inflicted heavy losses. The Satyr leader used the power Xavius had bestowed to become a giant wolf and charged into battle, where an unidentified swordsman confronted him.

  • Elven Warlocks transformed into demons and stopped the Satyrs' first assault with fel flames and spells.
  • The Shen'dralar Ancients' mages struck the Satyrs hard until summoned Felhounds attacked and drained the spellcasters.
  • The Warlocks and mages wrested control of the Felhounds, but the Satyr leader turned into a giant wolf and killed the pack.
  • The Satyr leader urged his forces to attack again, then charged toward the Shen'dralar Ancients.
  • An unidentified figure leaped before the giant wolf and slashed at his neck with a longsword.

Ch. 490Fierce battle with Alzzin

Aaron fought Alzzin, who shifted between a dire wolf, a treant, and his Satyr form while using vines to control the battlefield. Aaron pierced Alzzin with two thrown swords, weakened his control over the vines, and closed in to deliver a potentially fatal attack.

  • Aaron evaded Alzzin's dire wolf attacks and escaped vines after his golden protection kept him from being bitten apart.
  • Aaron cut free of the vines and wounded Alzzin's shoulder before Alzzin transformed into a treant and summoned treants and more vines.
  • Alzzin tricked Aaron with a treant decoy and trapped him in a cage of vines, but Aaron broke out and charged at him.
  • Aaron threw Frostmourne and another sword at Alzzin, striking his leg and torso and disrupting his control of the vines.
  • Aaron pulled the swords from Alzzin's leg and hacked down at him.

Ch. 491A Nightmare Upheaval

Aaron killed Alzzin and the Satyr who had ambushed him, but Shen'dralar Ancients suddenly turned on their own allies and helped the Satyrs drive the elves into retreat. Investigating the motionless, smoke-shrouded traitors, Aaron was seized by one who recognized him and claimed to have caught him again after ten thousand years.

  • Aaron killed Alzzin with Holy Light, and Vereesa shot down the Satyr who had tried to ambush him.
  • A dozen Shen'dralar Ancients attacked their own allies, breaking the elves' formation and allowing the Satyrs to pursue them into the city.
  • Aaron and Vereesa found the traitorous elves standing motionless amid lingering black smoke, and Aaron approached one while Vereesa kept watch from the air.
  • A smoke-shrouded Shen'dralar Ancient grabbed Aaron and fired black-and-red light into his eyes before Aaron broke free and struck him with Holy Light.
  • The elf ignored Aaron's blow, smiled eerily, and said he had caught Aaron again after ten thousand years.

Ch. 492The Shen'dralar Ancients' Last Trump Card

Xavius trapped Aaron in corrosive nightmare power and led the Satyrs against the Shen'dralar Ancients in Eldre'Thalas. Their final defender emerged in the form of Immol'thar, whom Xavius recognized as Prince Tortheldrin, and the battle began.

  • Xavius enveloped Aaron in nightmare power, suppressing his Holy Light and leaving him struggling against its restraints.
  • Xavius projected himself into a Satyr and directed the Satyrs to attack the Shen'dralar Ancients, ordering them to leave some elves alive.
  • A powerful roar hurled the first Satyrs entering Eldre'Thalas back, and the remaining Satyrs gathered as the Shen'dralar Ancients' hidden defender appeared.
  • Aaron broke free of Xavius's nightmare and recognized the charging two-headed monster as Immol'thar.
  • The monster addressed Xavius, who identified him as Prince Tortheldrin and sent nightmare creatures and strengthened Satyrs to attack.

Ch. 493Fierce battle and explosion

Prince Tortheldrin and Aaron joined forces to defeat Xavius, but Xavius then began corrupting Immol'thar's body. Unable to stop him, Prince Tortheldrin sent Aaron flying and detonated the body, taking Xavius with him.

  • Prince Tortheldrin fought Xavius but struggled to control his newly transformed body and began to lose ground.
  • Aaron struck Xavius from behind, and he and Prince Tortheldrin subdued him with a blow infused with Holy Light.
  • Xavius's voice returned from the fallen satyr, and he began taking control of Prince Tortheldrin's body by corrupting one of its heads.
  • Prince Tortheldrin slapped Aaron out of harm's way and swelled Immol'thar's body until it was about to explode.
  • Prince Tortheldrin declared that Xavius would die with him, and the body erupted in a massive explosion.

Ch. 494Prince Tortheldrin's Tragedy

Aaron survived Prince Tortheldrin’s explosion, and Xal'atath searched the crater for the prince’s soul. After finding and stabilizing him, she sent his soul to Azeroth and told Aaron how Fel dependence had driven Tortheldrin to fuse with Immol'thar.

  • Prince Tortheldrin detonated himself, destroying Immol'thar and blasting Aaron across the ruins.
  • Aaron recovered and followed Xal'atath into the crater, where she searched through the corrupted soul fragments for Tortheldrin.
  • Xal'atath found Tortheldrin’s spectral figure, stabilized his soul with nature power, and sent him to Azeroth.
  • Xal'atath told Aaron that Tortheldrin had led the Shen'dralar in researching Fel and summoning demons as Immol'thar’s power proved insufficient.
  • Xal'atath explained that Fel dependence had warped Tortheldrin and driven him to seek Immol'thar’s power by fusing with him before Xavius attacked.

Ch. 495Mordent Evenshade

After Prince Tortheldrin sacrificed himself to defeat Xavius, Aaron learned the Shen'dralar Ancients were left dependent on fel and had lost their source of power. Mordent Evenshade confirmed they could endure for a while on their reserves, but their situation would worsen over time.

  • Aaron and Xal'atath discussed the dangers of fel after hearing Prince Tortheldrin's story.
  • Aaron met Vereesa after she had watched the battle from the air and explained Prince Tortheldrin's fate.
  • Xal'atath told Aaron that Prince Tortheldrin had asked him to help the Shen'dralar Ancients overcome their fel dependence.
  • Vereesa asked the gathered elves for Mordent Evenshade, and Mordent came forward to meet Aaron.
  • Aaron asked how long the Shen'dralar Ancients could endure, and Mordent explained that Tortheldrin's death had cut off their power source, leaving them reliant on dwindling reserves.

Ch. 496Aaron's solution

Aaron learned that the Shen'dralar Ancients had only half a month of energy reserves and warned Mordent that without a new source they risked becoming mindless from magical addiction. Unable to find a safe solution in Eldre'Thalas, Aaron left with Vereesa to consult someone, promising to return within a few days.

  • Mordent told Aaron that Immol'thar's death had left the Shen'dralar Ancients with only half a month of reserves if they rationed their energy.
  • Aaron explained that Arcan'dor might eventually end their dependence on external energy, but its risks and slow growth made finding an immediate energy source more urgent.
  • Aaron and Vereesa warned Mordent that elves who succumbed to magical addiction could become mindless Wretched or Withered.
  • Aaron considered Ley Line nodes and the energy near Nordrassil, but neither offered a practical, safe solution for the Shen'dralar Ancients.
  • Aaron told Mordent he would seek advice and might return with a solution, then flew south with Vereesa.

Ch. 497The plan was set

Aaron found Archaedas and Mimiron repairing the Chamber of Heart in Silithus and asked Archaedas for an energy source for the Shen'dralar Ancients of Eldre'Thalas. Azeroth suggested another Pillar of Creation, so Aaron planned to search for the scattered artifacts in the Broken Isles.

  • Aaron searched Silithus for several days before finding the Mechagnomes' camp and entering the underground Titan facility.
  • Archaedas explained that the Chamber of Heart had helped stabilize Azeroth's World-Soul and was now being repaired by him and Mimiron.
  • Aaron described the Shen'dralar Ancients' predicament and asked Archaedas to help find them a lasting energy source.
  • Archaedas reminded Aaron that he possessed the Tear of Elune, but Aaron explained that it was needed elsewhere and its Holy Light would not suit the arcane-focused elves.
  • Azeroth emerged from beneath the platform and suggested using another Pillar of Creation; Aaron confirmed their locations and decided to travel to the Broken Isles.

Ch. 498The teleporter network

Aaron worried that the Shen'dralar Ancients would run out of stored energy before he could return from the Broken Isles. Mimiron revealed that a Titan teleporter could take Aaron there directly, and Aaron prepared to leave.

  • Aaron worried that the Shen'dralar Ancients might not survive the time needed for him to travel to the Broken Isles and find a Pillar of Creation.
  • Mimiron told Aaron that he had learned the Broken Isles' location through a mechagnome who had contacted him, and confirmed that the mechagnome was now in Ulduar.
  • Mimiron projected a map and explained that Titan teleporters could transport travelers across the planet, though many had been damaged or scrambled since the Sundering.
  • Aaron asked about Pandaria, and Archaedas explained that an unknown energy blocked contact with the region and with Ra.
  • Mimiron said a working teleporter stood in the hall and agreed to send Aaron to the Broken Isles immediately.

Ch. 499Return to the Broken Isles

Aaron, Vereesa, and Archaedas used an unstable teleporter in Mimiron’s hall and emerged in a dark cavern. After swimming out, they discovered they had arrived at the Eye of Azshara.

  • Mimiron warned Aaron that the hall’s old teleporters were unstable, though he insisted they would not send anyone to the wrong place.
  • Vereesa left her birds with the Mechagnomes while Aaron asked Archaedas about joining the trip to find Odyn.
  • Archaedas agreed to go, hoping to reunite with Odyn, and Aaron noted they might have to confront Helya to free him.
  • Mimiron finished checking the teleporter, and Aaron traveled first, suffering severe dizziness before confirming the connection worked.
  • Vereesa and Archaedas followed Aaron into the cavern, and the three swam through an underwater passage.
  • Aaron surfaced with the others and recognized their location as the Eye of Azshara.

Ch. 500Eye of Azshara

Aaron, Vereesa, and Archaedas fought their way through the Naga on the Eye of Azshara and escaped, while Athissa summoned a dangerous sea monster and sent Naga to track them. Athissa prepared for the trio’s possible return, convinced their arrival might be connected to her mission.

  • Archaedas transformed into his stone giant form and cleared a path through the Naga with a shock wave.
  • Aaron and Vereesa fought off the Naga brutes and witches as Athissa ordered them to surround the pair.
  • Aaron stopped Vereesa from shooting Athissa, summoned a gryphon, and flew with her after Archaedas.
  • Athissa unleashed her anger with lightning, then ordered the Naga witches to summon a monster from the whirlpool.
  • After the monster emerged, Athissa sent some Naga to track Aaron and the others and prepared a trap in case they returned.
