Chapters 726–750 Vol. 8 Read

Ch. 726Besieging Archimonde

Ursoc, the dragons, the Titan Keepers, and Aaron joined forces against Archimonde, inflicting wounds that even the Defiler struggled to heal. Archimonde remained under attack as Aaron continued to exploit his small size to hinder the demon’s movements.

  • Ursoc charged Archimonde but was struck down and set ablaze, then began recovering under the Emerald Dream’s protection as Freya healed him.
  • The dragons’ combined breath burned Archimonde’s chest, and he retaliated by raining fel-wreathed boulders down on them.
  • Archaedas trapped Archimonde’s feet while Thorim and Hodir joined him in a three-direction assault that made Archimonde spit green blood.
  • Aaron struck Archimonde’s shoulder with his Holy Light-infused warhammer, then used Frostmourne to open more wounds.
  • The Titan Keepers and the recovered Ursoc continued striking Archimonde while Aaron’s frost and Holy Light wounds hindered his movement.

Ch. 727The tide turned

Archimonde turned the tide against Aaron, the Titan Keepers, and the Dragon Aspects, then began draining Nordrassil’s energy. As Aaron feared the defenders could not stop him, Malygos and the others returned to the fight.

  • Archimonde flicked Aaron away and hurled Hodir toward a distant mountain.
  • Archimonde shattered Thorim’s warhammer, but the Dragon Aspects and Archaedas intervened before Thorim was badly injured.

Ch. 728The Defiler's end

As the injured Keepers struggled to hold Archimonde at bay, Malygos drew on the Well of Eternity to unleash a massive arcane attack. Archimonde narrowly dodged it, but Aaron knocked him back into its path, and the demon was consumed by the blast.

  • Thorim and Hodir rejoined Archaedas, and the three fought Archimonde to a stalemate.
  • Odyn explained that his true body was still recovering in the Well of Eternity and agreed to hold the battle line while Malygos prepared a powerful spell.
  • Malygos connected to the Well of Eternity and directed a mass of arcane energy at Archimonde.
  • Archimonde teleported past the attack and neared Nordrassil, but Aaron used Avatar and struck him with the Silver Hand Warhammer.
  • Aaron knocked Archimonde back into Malygos's arcane blast, which engulfed and consumed him.

Ch. 729The final curse

After Archimonde’s explosion left him in pieces, Aaron stopped his surviving head from reaching Nordrassil, but Archimonde cursed him by severing his connection to the Holy Light. Aaron killed Archimonde with the light he had left, then collapsed unconscious.

  • The explosion destroyed Archimonde’s body and scattered its fragments around the crater, while Aaron survived the blast and saw the allied forces approaching.
  • Archimonde’s still-living head flew toward Nordrassil, and Aaron used Avatar to seize it and keep it from corrupting the World Tree.
  • Archimonde recognized Aaron and traced fel runes onto him, severing his connection to the Holy Light and the Tear of Elune.
  • Aaron threw Archimonde’s head into the air and smashed it with the Silver Hand Warhammer, killing The Defiler for good before passing out.

Ch. 730After the war

After waking from his battle with Archimonde, Aaron learned that the curse had severed his connection to the Holy Light and left him too weak to walk. As he and Vereesa recovered at Mount Hyjal, he proposed to her, and she accepted.

  • Aaron woke after three days and learned that Archimonde was dead, while Vereesa scolded him for risking his life alone.
  • Vereesa took Aaron outside in a wheelchair built by the High Tinker, and Aaron discovered that Archimonde's curse had cut him off from the Holy Light and could not be removed.
  • Vereesa told Aaron that the Alliance and Night Elves were preparing a conference, Nordrassil's immortality blessing was weakening, and Orcs had joined the battle against Ner'zhul's betrayal.
  • Aaron and Vereesa admired the peaceful scenery near Nordrassil, and Aaron asked her to marry him.
  • Vereesa accepted Aaron's proposal and kissed him.

  • Illucia reported that Covenant City would host a monument and embassies following the agreement with the Night Elves, while Vereesa listened to the city’s affairs.
  • A rocket crashed through Aaron and Vereesa’s window, and Aaron cleared the smoke to reveal Chromie.
  • Chromie invited Aaron to the Caverns of Time and explained that his severed connection to the Tear of Elune would let him travel to the War of the Ancients.
  • Aaron questioned whether he could help without the Emerald Dream’s power, but Chromie insisted that his role was crucial to ending the war.
  • Vereesa told Aaron to go and insisted on joining him, so Chromie agreed to take her along.

Ch. 733Arrival in ancient times

Aaron and Vereesa traveled with Chromie to the Caverns of Time, where they prepared disguises and equipment for a journey to the War of the Ancients. After emerging from the time tunnel ten thousand years in the past, they discovered that Chromie did not know where they had arrived.

  • Aaron agreed to let Vereesa accompany him and left his artifacts behind, asking Azuregos to watch over them.
  • Chromie took Aaron and Vereesa through the Caverns of Time and provided them with period-appropriate weapons and clothes.
  • Vereesa chose a crude longbow, while Aaron picked a longsword and staff.
  • Chromie disguised Vereesa as a Night Elf and transformed Aaron into one so they could enter the ancient era unnoticed.
  • Chromie opened a time tunnel and followed Aaron and Vereesa through it disguised as an orange cat.
  • After arriving ten thousand years in the past, Aaron asked where they were, and Chromie admitted she did not know.

Ch. 734Walking Through the Wilderness

Aaron, Vereesa, and Chromie struggled to find their bearings and travel through Kalimdor’s ancient wilderness while heading toward a familiar mountain. Their journey ended when a blue-scaled python transformed into a dragon and politely questioned Aaron.

  • Aaron tried to calm a massive blue-scaled python, but it transformed into a dragon and asked what he was doing.

Ch. 735An inevitable chance encounter

Aaron and Vereesa met Azuregos in the wilderness, and the curious blue dragon joined them on their journey toward a nearby Night Elf city. After several days of enduring his chatter, they reached Eldre'Thalas.

  • Azuregos revealed his true form, cast comprehend languages on Aaron, and asked about the power he sensed in him.
  • Aaron denied that Azuregos had met Chromie before and asked for directions; Azuregos pointed them toward a Night Elf city to the south.
  • Azuregos decided to accompany Aaron and Vereesa, traveling beside them in Night Elf form rather than carrying them.
  • During the journey, Azuregos's draconic aura frightened away wild beasts, and his endless questions and stories tested Aaron and Vereesa.
  • Chromie told Aaron that young blue dragons were naturally talkative, and the group eventually recognized their destination as Eldre'Thalas.

Ch. 736Eldre'Thalas

Aaron, Vereesa, and Azuregos reached Eldre'Thalas and learned that its portal to Zin-Azshari had been closed by Prince Tortheldrin. Suspecting interference in the Night Elf capital, Aaron agreed to join Tortheldrin and investigate the queen's court.

  • Aaron and his companions admired Eldre'Thalas, whose size and magical wonders surpassed the ruins Aaron remembered.
  • The city's residents told Aaron that Prince Tortheldrin had closed the portal to Zin-Azshari and barred ordinary travelers from using it.
  • Aaron suspected the Infinite Dragonflight had isolated Zin-Azshari to let Sargeras arrive and decided to confront Tortheldrin.
  • Tortheldrin mistook Aaron's group, especially Azuregos, for investigators of the anomalies in Zin-Azshari and offered to help them enter the queen's court.
  • Aaron, Vereesa, and Azuregos agreed to accompany Tortheldrin to Zin-Azshari and investigate.

Ch. 737Zin-Azshari

Aaron and his companions entered Zin-Azshari under Prince Tortheldrin’s cover and saw the Well of Eternity before planning how to reach the Eternal Palace. Tortheldrin agreed to help them get inside as attendants, though their movements would be restricted.

  • Prince Tortheldrin escorted Aaron, Vereesa, and Azuregos through the portal to Zin-Azshari, claiming they were his attendants.
  • Aaron found no sign that the Burning Legion had reached the city, while Vereesa discovered that the Well of Eternity made it easier to cast Arcane Magic.

  • Prince Tortheldrin led Aaron, Vereesa, and Chromie to the Eternal Palace, where the guards recognized him and sent word to the queen.
  • Lady Vashj welcomed Prince Tortheldrin and escorted Aaron and his companions into the palace after he was admitted.
  • Lady Vashj guided Aaron, Vereesa, and Chromie deeper into the palace, eventually bringing them to the prison.
  • Lady Vashj ordered more than a dozen arcanists to attack the group and accused them of plotting against the queen.
  • Chromie confirmed that none of the attackers were infinite dragons, and Aaron told Azuregos to finish them off.

Ch. 739Shadows of the Infinite Dragonflight

Aaron, Vereesa, and Azuregos entered the prison after Azuregos disrupted the Night Elf Arcanists’ spells, where they encountered Infinite Dragonspawn and fought them. Azuregos defeated a young bronze dragon and its dragonspawn, and Vereesa noticed the enemies had emerged from an open cell.

  • Azuregos manipulated the ley lines, causing the Arcanists’ spells to go out of control, then rushed Aaron and Vereesa into the prison as an explosion erupted outside.
  • Inside the prison, Azuregos mistook the Infinite Dragonspawn for Bronze Dragonspawn pretending to be Black Dragonspawn, while Aaron recognized the hostile group.
  • Aaron attacked first, binding some dragonspawn with vines and defeating three before more enemies arrived with a young bronze dragon.
  • Azuregos transformed into his dragon form, defeated the young dragon and its dragonspawn, and imprisoned them with Arcane Magic.
  • Vereesa pointed out that the second group of Infinite Dragonspawn had come from an open cell and asked what they had been doing there.

Ch. 740The Imprisoned Priestess

Aaron and Vereesa discovered Tyrande Whisperwind imprisoned in the Eternal Palace under Elune’s protection, and learned that she did not know why Azshara had captured her. They prepared to leave and question the bound Infinite Dragonflight member, while Tyrande revealed that she had been hungry for days.

  • Aaron asked Azuregos to guard the captured Infinite Dragonflight member while he and Vereesa investigated the room where Tyrande was held.
  • Vereesa and Aaron found Tyrande kneeling in a shaft of moonlight, and Aaron recognized that Elune was protecting her.
  • Tyrande identified herself as Tyrande Whisperwind and explained that Azshara’s soldiers had imprisoned her after summoning her to Zin-Azshari.
  • Aaron helped Tyrande stand with a summoned vine, and Vereesa supported her as they prepared to leave the cell.
  • Tyrande dismissed the moonlight and asked Aaron whether he had any food because she had been hungry for several days.

Ch. 741Chromie Shows Her Might

Aaron, Azuregos, and Vereesa tried to question the captured Infinite dragons, but one prisoner became corrupted and began breaking free before Chromie subdued him. Chromie sent the captives through a spacetime tunnel, and Aaron discovered that the attackers had already opened a huge portal in the palace.

  • Azuregos conjured food for Tyrande while Aaron and Azuregos discussed how to interrogate the prisoners.
  • Aaron asked an Infinite dragon to answer questions, but the prisoner accused him of bringing End Time early and warned Azuregos about the future.
  • The Infinite dragon released black smoke that ate through his restraints, forcing Aaron and the others to retreat.
  • Chromie struck the Infinite dragon with a golden lightning attack, subdued him, and had Azuregos send the captives through a spacetime tunnel.
  • Aaron ran to the prison entrance and saw a massive portal already open inside the palace.

Ch. 742Escape from Zin-Azshari

Aaron and his companions discovered that Azshara had opened a gigantic demonic portal at the Eternal Palace, beginning the Burning Legion’s invasion. Azuregos carried them out of Zin-Azshari, and they hid in the trees outside the city as felbats searched for them.

  • Aaron saw the enormous fel portal overwhelm the Well of Eternity’s arcane energy as demons poured into Zin-Azshari.
  • Tyrande, Vereesa, Chromie, and Azuregos emerged from the prison, and Azuregos transformed and offered to fly them out and report the invasion to Malygos.
  • Aaron told Azuregos that Azshara had been tempted by demons and that the Infinite Dragonflight was involved, urging him to tell Malygos what had happened.
  • Felbats spotted Azuregos and pursued him, but Aaron persuaded him to flee while the others cleared away the attackers.
  • Azuregos landed beyond the city and returned to elf form, and the group hid among the trees until the felbats dispersed.

Ch. 743Ten Thousand Years Apart

Aaron and his companions prepared to leave for Suramar to organize resistance against the Burning Legion, but Prince Tortheldrin arrived, transformed by fel after the queen’s guards used him to power the demonic portal. He chose to return to Eldre’Thalas and lead his people, while Aaron warned him about the fel’s influence.

  • Azuregos teleported back to Coldarra, and Aaron’s group decided to travel to Suramar with Tyrande.
  • A fel-altered Night Elf arrived on a demonic bat, and Aaron recognized him as Prince Tortheldrin.
  • Prince Tortheldrin explained that Azshara’s guards had drained his energy to power the portal, and its fel energy had transformed him.
  • Aaron told Tortheldrin that the Burning Legion intended to conquer the world and explained that he planned to help resist the demons in Suramar.
  • Tortheldrin decided to return to Eldre’Thalas to take responsibility for his city, and Aaron warned him to seek ways to control the fel’s influence.

Ch. 744Felhounds Attack

Aaron, Vereesa, and Tyrande fled toward Suramar as demons advanced, but dozens of Felhounds surrounded them. Tyrande’s Starfall killed many of the attackers before mysterious reinforcements trapped the rest in vines and struck with area spells.

  • Aaron, Vereesa, and Tyrande rode toward Suramar on a tamed wildebeest after leaving Zin-Azshari.
  • Vereesa killed a Felhound that tried to ambush them, and Aaron realized the demons had begun their offensive.
  • Tyrande told Aaron that Elune had promised help but warned them of a trial ahead.
  • Dozens of Felhounds and a larger demon pursued the group, and Tyrande used Starfall to kill more than a dozen Felhounds.
  • As the remaining Felhounds closed in on Tyrande, vines bound them and area spells struck, revealing that reinforcements had arrived.

Ch. 745Reinforcements, as expected

Aaron, Vereesa, Tyrande, and the Stormrage brothers fought off the fel lord after Malfurion and Illidan arrived as reinforcements. Illidan’s meteor sent the demon back to the Twisting Nether, leaving the group together after the battle.

  • Vines and spells killed most of the Felhounds, while Aaron and Tyrande recognized that reinforcements had arrived.
  • Malfurion and Illidan emerged from the woods and checked that Tyrande was safe.
  • The fel lord attacked the brothers, but Malfurion’s vines and treants, Aaron’s intervention, and spells from the others kept it at bay.
  • Malfurion struck the demon with nature and celestial magic while Aaron and Vereesa joined the attack.
  • Illidan summoned a fiery meteor that defeated the fel lord and sent it back to the Twisting Nether.

Ch. 746Cenarius's guests

Aaron, Vereesa, Tyrande, Illidan, and Malfurion traveled through Val’sharah to meet Cenarius, while Aaron concealed his origins and learned that Cenarius had warned the Night Elves about the Burning Legion. The chapter ended as Aaron recognized three unexpected guests standing before Cenarius and wondered which one the Dryads had called a bad-tempered pet.

  • Aaron invented a story about himself and Vereesa for Tyrande and Malfurion, saying a demigod had guided them toward Zin-Azshari.
  • Malfurion thanked Aaron for rescuing Tyrande and explained that Cenarius had warned the Night Elves about the Burning Legion, though Suramar City had mostly ignored the warning.
  • Malfurion led Aaron and the others into Val’sharah, where Dryads reported that Cenarius had unexpected guests and a bad-tempered pet.
  • Aaron reached Cenarius and recognized the guests as an Orc, a human mage, and a Night Elf, then tried to guess which one had been mistaken for a pet.

Ch. 747A conversation between time travelers

Aaron reunited with Rhonin, Krasus, and Broxigar, who had traveled from ten thousand years in the future but suffered memory problems and other restrictions. After Chromie restored their memories, Aaron learned that the demons’ advance legion had reached Black Rook Hold and urged everyone to prepare for battle.

  • Malfurion introduced Aaron and Vereesa to Cenarius and the three future visitors, who recognized Aaron and Vereesa.
  • Cenarius sent Malfurion, Tyrande, and Illidan away to discuss the enemies they had encountered, leaving Aaron to speak with the visitors.
  • Aaron learned that Rhonin, Krasus, and Broxigar remembered their identities and time travel but had forgotten many important details; Krasus also could not return to dragon form.
  • Chromie explained that the memory problems came from His Majesty’s spell and restored the visitors’ memories, but said Krasus could not become a dragon while another Korialstrasz existed in the same time and space.
  • Rhonin asked what the group should do next, and Aaron revealed that the demons’ advance legion had reached the vicinity of Black Rook Hold.

Ch. 748Black Rook Hold

Aaron and his companions joined Cenarius at Black Rook Hold as the demon vanguard approached, and they found the fortress’s soldiers poorly motivated and its arcanists dangerously confident. Kur'talos Ravencrest and Illidan both saw the coming war as a chance to gain distinction just as the demons arrived.

  • Aaron learned that only druids could hear Cenarius’s message through the ancient tree, then agreed with Krasus, Rhonin, and Broxigar to investigate the coming battle.
  • Aaron and the others followed Cenarius’s trail to Black Rook Hold, where they met Malfurion and Tyrande before entering the Ravencrest stronghold.
  • Aaron, Rhonin, and Krasus judged the fortress’s dispirited soldiers and arrogant arcanists unprepared for the Burning Legion.
  • Kur'talos Ravencrest planned to use victory to raise his family’s standing, while Illidan looked for another chance to distinguish himself in battle.
  • The demon vanguard arrived outside Black Rook Hold.

Ch. 749A chaotic battle

Black Rook Hold’s defenders faced the Burning Legion’s assault, first fighting off Felbats and then a main demon force that attacked from both outside and inside the fortress. Kur'talos helped repel the first assault and took notice of an unfamiliar Arcanist whose quick change in tactics had caught his eye.

  • Felbats swarmed Black Rook Hold, and the Night Elf Arcanists struggled to stop them from reaching the defenders.
  • Vereesa shot down a Felbat, then stopped when Chromie warned that interfering too much could alter history.
  • Cenarius sent treants, Mountain Giants, Faerie Dragons, and forest beasts to harass the demons’ flanks before ordering them to withdraw.
  • The Burning Legion charged Black Rook Hold’s walls while demons also emerged through portals inside the fortress, throwing the defenders into disarray.
  • Kur'talos reorganized the defenders and repelled the first assault, while noticing an unfamiliar Arcanist who had changed his attack strategy.

Ch. 750Kur'talos's invitation

Kur'talos inspected Black Rook Hold's defenses and invited Aaron, the Stormrage brothers, and other standout fighters to a private meeting. He revealed that he had an assignment for each of them, but the chapter ended before he explained what it was.

  • Kur'talos strengthened Black Rook Hold's defenses until the Night Elves could respond to demon portal ambushes and fight them more effectively.
  • Kur'talos patrolled the walls, where Illidan and Malfurion excelled in battle while Aaron and Vereesa dealt with stragglers.
  • Aaron told Kur'talos about the demons' races and abilities, and Kur'talos admired Aaron after assuming he had survived an epic escape from Zin-Azshari.
  • After the demons' attack slackened, Kur'talos invited Aaron, Illidan, Malfurion, and other fighters to a gathering and praised their valor.
  • Kur'talos brought a smaller group, including Aaron, into a command room and announced that he had an assignment for each of them.
