Background / History

Medusa was born into the Snake People Clan alongside her younger twin sister, Die. The sisters possessed “one soul and two bodies,” and the clan's succession customs decreed that only one could become the true Medusa and rule as queen. Medusa—whose original name was Cai—accidentally injured Die during their past conflict, then preserved her body in an ice coffin with a secret technique to retain her last breath. Die's apparent death became Medusa's enduring regret. 128

Before receiving Cang Lan's diary, Medusa focused exclusively on the Snake People Clan's development and had little interest in romance. The diary instead exposed her to Cang Lan's knowledge, ambitions, and promises of opportunities powerful enough to change both her cultivation and Die's fate. 53 75 79

After learning that her fused Purple Nether Flame Snake carried a trace of ancient bloodline and could potentially evolve, Medusa searched the clan's ancient records and confirmed Cang Lan's information. She traveled alone to the Jia Ma Imperial Capital despite the political danger to seek both greater strength and a way to revive Die. 79 83 85

Appearance

Medusa is a bewitching woman usually seen in a luxurious purple robe. Her cold beauty, purple pupils, and multicolored snake tail are her most recognizable traits; her appearance is nearly identical to Die's, though their temperaments sharply differ. 53 82 84 153

  • Luxurious purple robes associated with her status as Snake People Clan queen. 53 83
  • Purple, demonic-looking Dou Qi and purple serpent manifestations when using her techniques. 82
  • A multicolored snake tail, noted as her defining physical trait. 84
  • Nearly identical facial features and figure to her younger twin, Die. 128 153
  • Her former icy expression gradually softens after becoming a mother and reconciling with Cang Lan. 113 128

Personality

Medusa is fiercely proud, cold, and possessive of her authority. She rejects the idea of submitting to anyone and initially insists that Cang Lan would need to devote himself solely to her before she would accept him. Even while contemplating a future with him, she intends to remain queen rather than a concubine. 77 82

Her pride is balanced by a strict sense of responsibility. She fears that exposing the duplicate diaries could endanger the Snake People Clan, confronts Jia Xingtian and Yun Shan to seek a chance to revive Die, and later retaliates against the empires that had bullied her people. 85 141

Die remains Medusa's greatest vulnerability. Her desire to save her sister motivates her journey to Cloud Palace, acceptance of Cang Lan's aid, and later determination to secure the Everlasting Life Pill. 79 82 115 128

Motherhood reveals a gentler side of Medusa. She is affectionate and protective toward Cang Xiaoxiao and Cang Lin, and her concern for their safety and upbringing increasingly guides her actions. 113 114 159

Abilities & Skills

Nine-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python Bloodline

  • Its released pressure caused magical beasts below the third rank to faint and forced stronger beasts to submit in fear. 82
