Background / History

Shrek Academy and the template conversion

Flender founded Shrek Academy, which initially operated from a village outside Suotuo City. Its finances barely balanced, its facilities were modest, and Flender had unsuccessfully sought the connections needed to obtain an academy operating permit 20 21 25 28.

Li Changsheng’s system unlocked his relationship with Flender through the Yu Xiaogang template. The Shrek-area conversion also applied manhua templates and changed related settings. Flender’s agreement with Yu Xiaogang’s theories shifted toward Li Changsheng, whom he recognized as his old friend and the Corner of Wisdom. In this altered history, Flender described Shrek’s teaching philosophy as based on Li Changsheng’s theories 19 20 27.

Reunion and student admissions

When Li Changsheng visited his shop with Tang San and Xiao Wu, Flender greeted him warmly. Impressed by the disciples’ cultivation, Soul Rings, and Martial Soul Avatar Armor, he immediately offered Li Changsheng the deanship. Li Changsheng declined, choosing instead to help improve the students’ futures 20.

Flender brought the visitors to Shrek, appointed Li Changsheng as its theory and practical combat teacher, and entrusted him with the newcomers’ final combat assessment. After they passed, he introduced Li Changsheng to the academy’s other teachers and discussed teaching plans with him 21 22 24 25.

Yu Xiaogang’s rejection

Yu Xiaogang arrived carrying a genuine recommendation letter written by Flender before the system’s changes. Flender no longer recognized him and became furious when he claimed to be the Golden Iron Triangle’s Corner of Wisdom. He released his Soul Saint pressure against Yu Xiaogang, then withdrew it to examine the letter 19 27.

Although the handwriting matched his own, Flender had no memory of writing the recommendation. He allowed Li Changsheng to dismiss Yu Xiaogang and ultimately attributed the letter to someone with similar handwriting 27.

Accreditation and renovation

Li Changsheng gave Flender an operating permit and renovation certificate, securing official recognition for Shrek and making it eligible for the Soul Master Tournament. Flender was deeply moved: the documents also meant that the academy’s teachers now held proper, recognized posts 25 28.

The subsequent renovations transformed the entrance, teaching buildings, offices, cafeteria, and square, while adding mimicry cultivation rooms. Flender personally contributed funds to improve meals so that meat could be served at every sitting. He planned to expand enrollment and lower admission requirements, while welcoming Li Changsheng’s proposal for separate inner and outer courts 40.

Supporting special training

Flender and Zhao Wuji gave Li Changsheng full authority over student education and training. Although Flender initially suggested combat practice at the Great Soul Arena, he supported Li Changsheng’s decision to strengthen fundamentals first. He demonstrated the Soul Power control exercise and arranged hot water and medicinal baths for the students 41 43.

He also learned that Ma Hongjun’s firewood exercises temporarily expended his Evil Fire. After Li Changsheng clarified that this treated only the symptoms, Flender welcomed it as another way to manage his disciple’s condition 49.

Personality

Flender combines a merchant’s concern for money with strong loyalty to Li Changsheng. He complains about the possible loss of his pickled vegetables and orders Oscar to pay for anything he breaks, yet casually gives Tang San a piece of Plate Crystal and offers Li Changsheng control of his academy. He explicitly tells a Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect messenger that Li Changsheng’s wishes are his own 20 21 30 31.

As an educator, he values disciplined cultivation and decent character. He confines Dai Mubai for pursuing women during an important cultivation period and later insists that Shrek must not produce students who commit arson, murder, robbery, or pillaging. His concern also extends to Ma Hongjun’s health and to ensuring that Tang San’s requested Go board does not interfere with training 21 22 40 49.
