Chen Xia had already started working as a security guard.

He stood outside the building, patrolling with Captain Gorilla.

The building had thirty floors in total. The academic symposium was being held deep inside, but no one had told them exactly which floor.

The two of them only needed to guard the exterior.

Chen Xia bent down, wiped the dirt off his leather shoes, then casually tossed them into the trash can.

It was nighttime, and the wind was rather strong, making his tie flutter.

Captain Gorilla sat on the railing, smoking a cigarette while scanning the surroundings, watching for any stirring of the wind or grass.

Night was when they needed to be most vigilant. One moment of inattention could give someone an opening to slip in.

Chen Xia stretched and leaned against the railing. With nothing else to do, he began circulating the Giant Turtle Breathing Technique, casually doing a little immortal cultivation.

Why wasn't he paying attention to his surroundings?

Because he was a security guard.

Security guards couldn't protect anyone. They only needed to protect themselves.

Of the three great rules of security work, Chen Xia could ignore two, but he would strictly abide by the last one.

Get away unscathed when facing criminals.

That was professional integrity.

Chen Xia sighed, feeling that heaven truly did have its own designs amid the unseen.

He had been a constable in the little martial arts world, and now he was a security guard in the world of superpowers.

Sure enough, this was what he was made for!

Chen Xia couldn't help feeling pleased with himself. Descending into the myriad worlds was quite nice: for him, the rewards were plentiful and the risks were small.

Even if he died, he would only lose one percent of his divine sense, which he could replenish later.

Meanwhile, his main body in the Azure Heaven Sword Sea could still gain points every year and would automatically cultivate its realm.

He was now cultivating on two fronts.

Captain Gorilla finished a cigarette, his gaze repeatedly roaming over Chen Xia. After hesitating for a long while, he finally asked quietly.

"Do you really think there's no difference between the ability to turn into a human and the ability to turn into a gorilla?"

Chen Xia frowned. He hadn't expected Captain Gorilla to still be hung up on this, so he gave an example.

"What difference do you think there is between a human-demon and a demon-human?"

Captain Gorilla carefully mulled it over. After a moment's thought, he said quietly, "They don't sound any different, but there must still be some fundamental difference, right?"

"There's no difference to me," Chen Xia replied casually. Looking at Captain Gorilla, he asked in puzzlement.

"Do you lack confidence?"

Those words were like a blow to a snake's vulnerable seventh inch.

Captain Gorilla fell silent, sadness appearing on his rugged face. He lowered his head, and only after a long while did he answer in a muffled voice.

"Because I'm not human, they're always worried I'll go berserk. They think I'm uncontrollable, extremely dangerous, and should... should..."

Captain Gorilla's voice grew even quieter. As though all his strength had been drained away, he spoke the final words.

"Should be locked in a cage."

Chen Xia straightened his tie, which the wind had blown a little crooked, and smiled. "If it's a big cage with three bedrooms and a living room, I'd want to go even more than you."

Captain Gorilla didn't answer. His burly frame remained seated on the railing as he flicked another cigarette out of the pack, looking deeply saddened and saying nothing.

Chen Xia walked closer, standing in the howling night wind, and asked with a smile, "Does this really bother you that much?"

"Yes." Captain Gorilla nodded, his voice muffled. It really did bother him. After a while, he added quietly.

"I'm not human, after all. A lot of people look at me strangely..."

"Who knows?" Chen Xia didn't mind, and instead smiled. "Maybe in other worlds, plenty of people would think you're really cool."

"Really?" Captain Gorilla asked delightedly.

"Who knows?" Chen Xia gave the same answer again.

The night wind kept blowing. The building seemed utterly silent, without a single sound.

Chen Xia looked at the towering building behind him and the pitch-black night, and a question arose.

What kind of academic symposium needs to be held at night?

And while he had been on guard earlier, he had seen many pretty young women going upstairs.

Is this academic symposium legitimate?

Chen Xia didn't think it was very legitimate.

The night wind blew without restraint, circling the building.

Chen Xia thought.

If I were coming to carry out an assassination, I definitely wouldn't come on the first day, or the last.

I'd come during the dull, boring middle.

That was when people were most likely to grow lax.

Of course, Chen Xia wasn't included in that, because he was always lax.

And so the first day passed peacefully.

The second day.

Chen Xia was late, because he had to get a full ten hours of sleep.

He had said so during his self-introduction.

Captain Gorilla didn't blame him. Instead, he comforted him. "If you're too tired, you can rest a little longer before coming. I can guard this place alone just fine."

"All right," Chen Xia replied.

And sure enough, he came late on the third day.

Captain Gorilla gently advised him, "If you have insomnia, you could try soaking your feet before bed and massaging your acupoints..."

He was very gentle even when offering advice, afraid of affecting Chen Xia again.

Chen Xia suddenly asked curiously, "How did you get your superpower? There seem to be very few nonhuman beings with superpowers worldwide."

He had discovered this while researching over the past two days.

A reminiscing look appeared on Captain Gorilla's rugged face, and he slowly spoke to Chen Xia.

"My home is in the great jungle. My kin live there, among green mountains and clear waters, with all sorts of variety."

"Of course, none of that has anything to do with me, because I was born in a laboratory. I was a test subject for an enhancement drug-the luckiest test subject."

"Because I was the only one who succeeded. Night Hawk asked for me and got me out, and that was how I became Captain Gorilla."

Chen Xia nodded, thinking it was a fairly good story.

A look of dejection appeared on Captain Gorilla's rugged face as he continued, "I said something earlier..."

He repeated it. "After this mission, I'm going back home to get married."

"Yeah, I think it's better not to say things like that carelessly," Chen Xia remarked.

The dejection on Captain Gorilla's face reached its peak. His expression mournful, he shook his head as though tolling heavy bells and drums, and said sorrowfully.

"I lied to you. I can't leave. I say that every time I go on a mission. Maybe it's because I hope I can leave."

"You told everyone your wish onstage, didn't you?"

Chen Xia leaned against the railing, his tie fluttering in the wind, and nodded. "Yes."

Captain Gorilla sighed. "I really envy you for being able to tell everyone your wish. Actually, I have a wish too. Would you be willing to hear it?"

"Just say it." Chen Xia leaned against the wall.

Captain Gorilla hesitated for a moment. "Can you promise not to laugh at me?"

"Yes, I promise." Chen Xia nodded.

"All right." Captain Gorilla composed himself, repeatedly exhaling, as though speaking his wish was terribly difficult for him. After a long while, he finally summoned his courage and said loudly.

"My wish is to lose my virginity!"

Fuck!

Chen Xia looked at him with a brooding gaze and asked.

"Can I take back that promise?"
