Background / History
Arrival and Weixi Town
Chen Xia was not originally from the world in which he began cultivating. Shortly after arriving, he survived an immortal’s enormous hand destroying a town and resolved to avoid confrontation until he could outlive such beings. During his travels, he briefly joined bandits when unable to defeat them, then earned a constable position through good conduct and reporting wrongdoing 1 9.
He settled in remote, resource-poor Weixi Town, where cultivators had not appeared for a thousand years. His comparatively modest protection-money collections and local good deeds earned him a favorable reputation and repeated Outstanding Constable awards. When the other constables were conscripted, he remained behind and accepted responsibility for Captain’s fifteen-year-old daughter, Xu Zhen 1 2.
Chen Xia paid for Xu Zhen’s shopping from his own salary and later killed the twenty-odd bandits who attacked her home, including their leader Yang Li and a collaborating blacksmith. He became captain of the town’s one-man constabulary and taught Xu Zhen Military Boxing 3 5.
Xu Zhen’s Departure and Early Cultivation
The Fuyao Immortal Sect identified Xu Zhen as possessing Great Emperor fortune but rejected Chen Xia as a “person without fortune.” Xu Zhen confessed her love before leaving to become the sect’s Soaring Holy Maiden. Chen Xia remained behind with the Turtle Breathing Technique and two Foundation Establishment Pills 6.
Over the following decade, he became mayor and reached Qi Refining’s Seventh Layer. He later eliminated the man-eating snake behind Weixi Town’s mysterious deaths. Thirty-five years after Yang Li’s death, Yang Gang returned seeking revenge; Chen Xia killed him with a finger flick that also divided a river and shattered a distant mountaintop 6 9 12 13.
National Preceptor of Great Song
Chen Xia initially rejected requests to defend Great Song. He changed his decision when an encounter with the eldest princess increased his Flood Dragon Qi, revealing a benefit to involvement with the imperial family 8 14.
At the frontier, a single stomp killed nearly ten thousand cavalrymen. He subsequently defeated the upper-realm soul fragment possessing Tiemuwu and killed fifty-six overseas Qi refiners to prevent further trouble. Great Song recovered its lost territory, and Chen Xia entered the capital with authority exceeding that of ordinary imperial officials 16 17 18.
Emperor Song Wei treated him as his foster father and promoted nationwide worship of his image. Chen Xia eventually departed quietly during a winter storm, leaving Huang Qingyue a farewell letter and the Mystic Primordial Dao Chapters. He later lived as a casual ferryman and a secluded farmer 20 23 24 27.
Huang Qingyue and the Giant Hand
Chen Xia returned to the imperial city after fifty years apart from Song Wei and formed his seven-colored Golden Core. His relationship with Huang Qingyue became romantic, and she guarded him during seclusion. When the old immortal attacked the capital and injured her, Chen Xia emerged and killed him 28 29 30 31.
Seeking further strength, Chen Xia organized offerings through golden statues across Great Song. When Ninth Mountain sect master Shen Ying arrived to recruit Huang Qingyue, he defeated her while her cultivation was suppressed to Golden Core. After receiving assurances that a Cross-Realm Beacon could preserve contact, he encouraged Huang Qingyue to choose freely, and she departed for the Immortal Realm 33 35.
The city-destroying hand eventually returned. Chen Xia combined his Nascent Soul tribulation, accumulated prayers, and newly evolved True Dragon Qi to destroy it. Its bloody rain contributed to a revival of Spiritual Qi throughout the minor world 37 38 39 40.
Azure Heaven Sword Sea and the Small-World Descent
The Old Fisherman claimed to have rescued Chen Xia from the river of time and brought him to Azure Heaven Sword Sea. Chen Xia spent a century avoiding competition before agreeing to attend the sect’s entrance selection within five hundred years. Learning that smaller realms experienced faster time, he chose to descend into one 40 41.
Using 1% of his Divine Sense, he entered a world of superpowered humans as a sixteen-year-old E-rank Night Hawk. Its will required him to follow the assigned role of a civilian protector. Despite his low official rank, he killed the C-rank Fire Man and later used Time Stop against a Coffin operative 42 43 46.
After returning, Chen Xia suspected that the Old Fisherman had lied about his rescue and concealed an ulterior motive. He feigned discouragement, refused to consume the offered soul lotus, and sought time to investigate. Unknown to him, the Old Fisherman intended to use him as a medicinal ingredient once he reached Quasi-Saint 48.
Appearance
Chen Xia retains the appearance of a man in his twenties despite decades of aging around him. Cultivation gradually alters his features and makes him more handsome without changing his languid bearing 5 6 12 24.
- Usual bearing: Relaxed posture, half-closed eyes, and an expression suggesting he might fall asleep 20.
- Clothing: Frequently wears blue, azure, or green robes 17 27 31 39.
- Eyes during abilities: Blue-green light accompanies some manifestations of power; his eyes become transparent when manipulating time and golden when channeling dragon qi 26 30 35 39.
- Small-world identity: Appears as a slender sixteen-year-old and wears Night Hawk’s black suit and identification tag 43.
Personality
Chen Xia values survival, autonomy, and steady growth over status or competition. He prefers fishing, farming, resting, and secluded cultivation to court duties or sect rivalries. His caution is deliberate: he assesses opponents before acting and regards waiting centuries for revenge as entirely reasonable 5 12 20 21 27 41.
His easygoing humor coexists with ruthless threat removal. He helps townspeople, protects Xu Zhen, and clears a frightened child from a martial dispute, but kills attackers decisively when he considers them dangerous. He also refuses to yield to hostage threats or appeals to national duty merely because others insist he should 2 5 7 14 18 21.
He is suspicious of convenient gifts and claims of benevolence. He questions Fuyao’s interest in Xu Zhen, rejects enhancement medicine over possible side effects, and disguises his investigation of the Old Fisherman behind apparent listlessness 6 43 48.
Abilities & Skills
Attribute Allocation
- Receives yearly attribute points that can be invested in Strength, Luck/Fortune, or Law Power 1 18.
- Treats attribute allocation as his primary source of growth; his physical power repeatedly exceeds what his cultivation realm suggests 6 26.
- Cannot allocate points to other people, preventing him from directly sharing his advantage with Xu Zhen 5.
- Still has 0 Law Power at the documented 350-strength milestone 37.
Physical Strength and Control
- Uses bare hands to stop or break blades, crush flying swords, and overpower cultivators 4 13 31.
- Turns pebbles, blade fragments, leaves, tea, and finger flicks into lethal or disabling attacks 5 6 8 13 31.
- Can sever rivers, demolish mountains, and move a thousand meters in a single step 10 13 15.
- Large attribute increases can temporarily disrupt his control; raising strength to 85 causes him to collapse mountains while walking 27.
Luck and “Lucky One”
- Luck influences ordinary events, bringing unclaimed money, baitless catches, and animals directly into his shots 5.
- Can improve cultivation methods, as demonstrated by the Turtle Breathing Technique’s upgrade 6.
- Lucky One grants absolute luck in minor matters and a boost in major matters 27.
- Chen Xia theorizes that major-matter boosts could produce critical-hit-like attacks; the example of doubling a blow’s power is his interpretation, not a demonstrated fixed multiplier 27.
Great Dao of Time
- Stops local time while remaining able to move and attack, making his actions appear impossibly fast to opponents 30 31.
- Reverses surrounding time and breaks through Shen Ying’s Past and Future Protective Formation 34 35.
- His small-world projection develops a thirty-second stop within a three-hundred-meter radius 47.

- Animates a stone pillar into a flood dragon and later manifests a thousand-zhang true dragon capable of resisting the giant hand 17 39.
- His projected True Dragon Qi is initially unusable until he fully integrates into the small world 43.
Cultivation Methods
| Method | Function and limits |
|---|---|
| Turtle Breathing Technique | Lifespan-burning cultivation method received from Fuyao. At Golden Core Great Completion, turtle breathing can improve bodily capabilities annually 6. |
| Great Turtle Breathing Technique | Supports cultivation to Nascent Soul and improves cultivation efficiency by 20% 7. |
| Giant Turtle Breathing Technique | Tribulation Transcendence-level upgrade; Chen Xia estimates three hundred years of cultivation to reach that realm 40. |
| Mystic Primordial Dao Chapters, Volume One | Uses Mystic Primordial Qi to inscribe internal Dao chapters; supports cultivation to Nascent Soul 18. |
| Netherworld Deadly Realm | A planned Dao chapter that forces a one-on-one duel. Requires three thousand strands of Mystic Primordial Qi and flawless inscription; remains unfinished in the documented preparation period 27 33. |
| Blood-Burning Soul-Extinguishing Method | Discovered in the Heavenly Pavilion. Sacrifices one hundred years of the user’s lifespan to remove eighty years from an opponent; no completed use is documented 49. |
Invincible Intent
- Earned by killing enemies above his realm, with one trace awarded per realm of difference 18.
- Strengthens him beyond others of the same realm 18.
- Three thousand traces would open a Great Emperor path and permit ascension; his documented rewards fall far short of that threshold 18 31.
World Connection and Divine Sense
- Cultivates a godlike connection to his original world through worship, eventually sensing living beings and warnings from heaven and earth 37.
- Receives Spiritual Qi from that world after its revival; his growth and the world’s growth reinforce one another 40.
- Can split off a precise portion of Divine Sense to descend into another world 42.
- Must respect the destination world’s assigned identity or risk rejection by its will 42 43.
Equipment / Items
- Two Foundation Establishment Pills — Received with the Turtle Breathing Technique after declining Lifespan Pills 6.

Relationships
- Xu Zhen — Initially his ward and neighbor; later confesses her love before joining Fuyao. Chen Xia promises a future together and eventually considers ascending partly to visit her 2 3 6 31.
- Huang Qingyue — Romantic partner and cultivation companion. Guards his seclusion, receives his protection, and parts from him with a promise to reunite 23 28 29 31 35.
- Constable Captain — Entrusts Xu Zhen to Chen Xia before conscription. His battlefield death is reported years later 2 5.
- Song Wei — Emperor of Great Song and Chen Xia’s foster son. Grants him exceptional court authority and promotes worship of his image 20 23 26.
- Song Nan — Song Wei’s successor. Chen Xia agrees to intervene in natural disasters and certain extraordinary calamities rather than ordinary government affairs 28 29.
- Shen Ying — Ninth Mountain sect master and Huang Qingyue’s recruiter. Fights Chen Xia with suppressed cultivation, acknowledges his unusual strength, and offers a means of cross-realm contact 34 35.
- Old Fisherman — Ostensible master and recruiter at Azure Heaven Sword Sea. Chen Xia suspects deception; the fisherman secretly plans to turn him into medicine at Quasi-Saint 40 48.
- Captain Gorilla — Night Hawk mission partner who treats him gently, tolerates his lateness, and warns him to flee during the Coffin attack 45 46.
