Personality
Fuchenzi values gifted practitioners as potential public servants. After learning that Qu Nanzhu possesses Yin-Yang Eyes, he urges him to contribute to the country and its people. Although disappointed when Qu rejects recruitment, he accepts the decision; receiving Qu’s subsequent offer of voluntary assistance leaves him privately even more excited than Daoqing 19.
He expects proper behavior from younger celestial masters, inwardly disapproving when Daoqing bounces with excitement. His own enthusiasm for unfamiliar supernatural techniques can undermine that reserve: during Bai Ting’s rescue, he repeatedly messages Daoming for photographs of Qu’s paper figures and scolds him for failing to respond promptly 19 22.
History
Recruitment of Qu Nanzhu
Fuchenzi and Daoqing follow Qu Nanzhu home after Pang Du’s death. Daoqing explains that animals matching Qu’s earlier descriptions killed Pang Du and that his soul was devoured. Fuchenzi suspects that Qu could see the wronged souls because he was born with Yin-Yang Eyes, which Qu confirms 19.
Fuchenzi invites him to join the bureau, but Qu rejects the expectation that his abilities should determine how he lives. The two celestial masters leave without securing his membership. A paper figure then delivers Qu’s phone number and an offer to help whenever they encounter something beyond their capabilities, establishing a channel for later cooperation 19.
Bai Ting’s Rescue
While watching Qu’s livestream, Fuchenzi provides information about the ghost trapping sixteen-year-old Bai Ting at home. The celestial master at the scene cannot handle it, and headquarters’ reinforcements will take at least three hours to arrive 21.
Qu sends Number Ten and Little Eighteen instead. Fuchenzi urgently asks Daoming to photograph the paper figures as they enter the haunted house. Their defeat of the ghost allows Bai Ting to leave safely and the police to enter 22.
Later Bureau Coordination
Fuchenzi later informs Qu that the dark-arts case involving Lu Mo has been resolved and its perpetrator caught. His experience with the special prison includes never having seen an imprisoned evil cultivator survive there for more than five years, though he keeps that observation to himself 38.
After Qu’s collapse and hospitalization, Daoqing calls Fuchenzi about the phantom and the collapsed school, matters requiring decisions from higher authorities 55. Following the arrest of a landlord who murdered and dismembered a woman, Qu again contacts Fuchenzi, offering help if the bureau cannot nurse the victim’s ghost back to health 84.
