Background / History
Bai Ting’s Rescue
Daoming attended the supernatural incident at Bai Ting’s home alongside a policewoman. When Qu Nanzhu’s paper figures, Number Ten and Little Eighteen, arrived, Daoist Priest Fuchen and other seniors urgently asked him to record them. He filmed the figures fighting the ghost despite the policewoman’s warning that filming was prohibited; she told him to submit a self-criticism report 22.
At his master’s instruction, Daoming entered the building with a video call running to look for traces of the magical battle. The paper figures handed him the subdued vicious ghost. After Fuchen forwarded Qu Nanzhu’s instructions, Daoming understood the assignment as a valuable training opportunity, with the figures available to help transport the captive 23.
Haunted Villa Investigation
Daoming and Daoqing appeared on Master as official Celestial Master Bureau representatives. Both had been instructed by their masters to learn from Qu Nanzhu, whom they publicly greeted as their senior 43 44.
Daoming led the team containing Qu Nanzhu, Lin Qianyu, Bai Shiyu, and Su Liyun into the abandoned villa. He correctly identified its Twin Dragons Holding a Pearl Wealth-Gathering Formation but could not explain why such favorable feng shui had produced a deadly yin dwelling. Under Qu Nanzhu’s guidance, he examined the original family’s photograph and helped explain how the corrupted formation and accumulated yin energy had affected successive residents 45 46.
He prepared tools for breaking the formation, opened the celebrity guests’ Yin-Yang Eyes, and helped equip them to capture the villa’s harmless ghosts. Afterward, he worked with Qu Nanzhu and Daoqing on the formation that cleared the property’s black qi 46 47 48.
Village Investigation and Public Education
At the next filming location, Daoming distributed protective jade talismans and explained how villagers had mistaken a supernatural disturbance for a mountain god’s punishment. He urged viewers to report unresolved dangers to the police rather than rely on offerings 49.
His group discovered a family worshipping a ghost housed in a stone. Its demands had escalated from poultry blood to human blood. Because bureau members were forbidden to strike ordinary people, Daoming and Daoqing could not forcibly overcome the family’s resistance; Bai Shiyu ultimately retrieved the stone during the argument. Daoming warned viewers about ghosts beguiling people and later assured the village chief that the government would build a road to help residents sell their pears 51.
When Qu Nanzhu exposed a fraudster during a subsequent livestream, Daoming explained the offender’s punishment in the Underworld. Together with Daoqing, he emphasized that sincere repentance and willingness to make amends could reduce punishment, unlike attempts to purchase an escape from responsibility 52.
School Investigation and Earthquake
Daoming joined Daoqing and Qu Nanzhu in investigating cries and calls for help at a secondary school. They followed a faint supernatural aura to a cemetery of unmarked gravestones behind the grounds 53.
After an earthquake devastated the school, Daoming and Daoqing stopped Lu Luqing from entering the ruins while the danger remained uncertain. Daoming later followed Daoqing into the wreckage without hesitation, trusting his colleague’s judgment. They found Qu Nanzhu unconscious in the cemetery and could see the phantom who reassured them that he had collapsed from overexertion 54 55.
Teaching and Academy Duties
As the bureau became more publicly visible, Daoming maintained a Weibo account for official notices, educational material, and updates about his cultivation routine. He also promoted the show’s second season 93.
During that season, he and Daoqing guided nine apprentices through a face-reading exercise. Daoming corrected their interpretations and explained that advanced Qi Observation required prolonged cultivation or exceptional talent. He later helped organize the apprentices for the Blessing Dance and performed alongside them, Daoqing, and Qu Nanzhu 97 99.
At Celestial Master Academy, Daoming welcomed the confirmed student Lin Suwan and her mother through the express lane. He subsequently brought Suwan to the dean’s office when requested 112 113.
Appearance
- Youthful, refined bearing: Presented as a young Celestial Master with a composed, upright public manner 22 43.
- Sect clothing: Previously wore dark blue-green Daoist robes 43.
- Official uniform: Wears the bureau’s white, Zhongshan-style uniform, embroidered with gold dragons and gold-patterned collar and cuffs when acting as an official representative 43.
- Ceremonial robes: Wears ceremonial clothing for the Blessing Dance 99.
Personality
Daoming’s dignified official manner contrasts with his nervousness around Qu Nanzhu. Although praised for his talent since entering the Dao, he fears being judged inadequate by the senior master. He eagerly positions himself to learn, accepts correction, and openly admits when he cannot answer a question 43 45.
He is enthusiastic and occasionally playful: he gives Daoqing a triumphant look after Qu Nanzhu joins his team and later laughs freely at the celebrities’ chaotic ghost-catching attempts. Teaching can test his composure, however; an apprentice’s mistaken face-reading interpretation leaves him visibly angry 45 48 97.
His conduct also reflects professional restraint. He obeys the bureau’s prohibition against striking civilians and prioritizes safety when he prevents Lu Luqing from rushing into the earthquake ruins 51 54.
