Background
Early Life
Lu Jinsheng was born after Lu Zhen forced himself on Zhang Hui. Although Lu Jincheng accused her of pursuing the Lu family’s wealth, Zhang Hui had refused their money and raised her son outside the family. Lu Jinsheng grew up stigmatized as an illegitimate child and repeatedly humiliated by his older half-brother 7 9.
He studied and worked hard, but could not afford both university tuition and treatment for his mother’s lung disease. Zhang Hui refused hospitalization because she did not want to burden him or seek help from the Lu family. They lived in a roughly twenty-square-meter hutong home without a private toilet 8 9 10.
Role in the Original Novel
In the story An Yubei remembers, the female lead rescues Lu Jinsheng from Lu Jincheng’s bullying. Her father sponsors his education, and their relationship develops through university. Lu Jinsheng later returns to the Lu family, wins its succession struggle, inherits its fortune, and marries the female lead 8.
That storyline changes when An Yubei intervenes instead. The expected female lead, Ji Sui, does not exist in this version of events, and Ji Shang becomes Lu Jinsheng’s sponsor 7 8.
Appearance
- Face and eyes: Striking features with an intensely commanding look; his amber eyes are particularly distinctive 9.
- Build: Tall and upright, with broad shoulders, narrow hips, firm muscles, and an eight-pack despite appearing slim in clothes 9 11.
- Scar: Has a scar on his abdomen; its origin is not explained in the provided chapters 51.
- Clothing: Initially wears plain T-shirts, jeans, and white sneakers. After gaining recognition from the Lu family, he appears in an expensive suit and costly watch 78.
Personality
Lu Jinsheng is hardworking, proud, and devoted to his mother. Even after Ji Shang funds her treatment, he continues taking part-time work because he refuses to remain idle. He is also generous despite his poverty: when An Yubei needs a taxi, he insists on giving him five hundred yuan from his limited wages, then returns the bank card An Yubei offers in exchange 11 12 19.
His affection for An Yubei combines genuine protectiveness with jealousy and possessiveness. He takes a blow for him and intervenes against an attempted assault, but also resents An Yubei’s reliance on Ji Shang. His desire to become someone An Yubei can depend on develops into a determination to gain power and win him “no matter the cost” 10 19 20 21.
Lu Jinsheng frequently presents himself as vulnerable to secure An Yubei’s attention. He uses self-pity, indirect accusations, and feigned pain to keep him nearby. This calculated behavior contrasts with his inexperience at direct flirting: his bathroom advances are improvised from advice he looks up on his phone 34 52 53.
He is patient rather than forgiving toward his enemies. While powerless, he silently remembers Lu Jincheng’s abuse; once positioned to retaliate, he knowingly exposes himself to an allergic reaction to turn their grandfather against his half-brother 7 89.

- Zhang Hui — Mother. Her worsening lung disease drives his search for money and his immediate acceptance of Ji Shang’s offer 9.
- Lu Zhen — Father, who forced himself on Zhang Hui. Lu Jinsheng’s narration refers to him bitterly as a “bastard” 7.
- Lu Jincheng — Older paternal half-brother, longtime bully, and succession rival. His attempts to humiliate and poison Lu Jinsheng culminate in a public confession at their grandfather’s birthday banquet 7 88 89.
- Old Master Lu — Grandfather and Lu family patriarch. Plans to acknowledge Lu Jinsheng and make him his heir; becomes deeply disappointed in Lu Jincheng after the poisoning incident 75 87 89.

- You Zhi — Another rival for An Yubei’s affection. You Zhi’s public advances and habit of calling An Yubei his wife provoke Lu Jinsheng’s jealousy 61.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Banquet Rescue and Sponsorship
Lu Jinsheng first meets An Yubei while working at a banquet. An Yubei recognizes him as the original novel’s future Lu family head and deliberately befriends him. When Lu Jincheng and his companions force Lu Jinsheng underwater in a swimming pool, An Yubei intervenes and brings Ji Shang over to stop them 5 7.
Ji Shang subsequently offers to cover his education, living costs, and his mother’s hospitalization in return for ten years of employment after graduation. Lu Jinsheng accepts immediately, overwhelmed that his mother can finally receive treatment 8 9.
The banquet manager then dismisses him under pressure from the wealthy young men he has offended. Attackers corner him and An Yubei outside; Lu Jinsheng takes a club blow for An Yubei and brings him home after their escape. An Yubei treats his injuries and meets Zhang Hui, while Lu Jinsheng privately resolves to work hard enough to give him the best of everything 9 10 11 12.
Bar Rescue and Growing Ambition
While working at a bar, Lu Jinsheng notices a man leading An Yubei into the restroom and follows. He interrupts the attempted assault and beats the man, prompting an assault report to the police 19.
Seeing An Yubei depend on Ji Shang during the aftermath intensifies his feelings of inadequacy. He resolves to return to the Lu family and claim his place there so that he can stand beside An Yubei 20 21.
Rivalry with Ji Shang
Ji Shang secretly rejects Lu Jinsheng’s invitation from An Yubei’s phone and deletes his contact. Lu Jinsheng later confronts An Yubei about being blocked, bringing the deception into the open during a hot-pot outing 24 27 28 29.
Their rivalry continues at the amusement park through pointed remarks, competing offers of attention, and attempts to stay physically close to An Yubei. Lu Jinsheng later opens the coffin trapping An Yubei and Ji Shang; the stuffed husky he wins for An Yubei becomes a treasured reminder of An Yubei’s parents 34 36 40.
Illness and University Life
Before university begins, An Yubei visits Lu Jinsheng during a fever. By then, Ji Shang has rented a two-bedroom apartment for him and Zhang Hui. Lu Jinsheng attempts increasingly direct flirting, but An Yubei misunderstands him and ultimately takes him to hospital 51 52 53.
Although originally preparing to study finance, Lu Jinsheng joins An Yubei in animal husbandry and says he chose the department “for someone.” They share a dormitory with Zhao Fei and Wang Meng. After the four eat wild-mushroom hot pot and hallucinate together, they become campus celebrities as the “A University F Four” 50 55 56 60.
During this period, Lu Jinsheng sees An Yubei and Ji Shang behaving affectionately together. He calls an unidentified person, accepts a proposed partnership, and declares his intention to become the Lu family’s heir 59.
Confession and Rejection
After a drinking gathering, Lu Jinsheng confesses that he wants to be with An Yubei forever. He promises to work for their future and treat him even better than Ji Shang 66 67.
He subsequently transfers to finance. When they meet again, An Yubei confirms his relationship with Ji Shang and explains that his feelings are not a matter of who arrived first: he loves Ji Shang specifically. Lu Jinsheng struggles with being regarded only as a friend 74 78 79.
Lu Family Succession and Pollen Attack
The Lu family moves toward formally acknowledging Lu Jinsheng, with Old Master Lu planning to name him heir at his eightieth birthday celebration. Lu Jincheng responds by plotting to put pollen in his drink 75 87 88.
An Yubei warns Lu Jinsheng, who confirms that even a small amount of pollen can leave him unable to breathe. Nevertheless, he drinks the glass Lu Jincheng hands him at the banquet and collapses. Lu Jincheng panics and admits what he did 89.
Lu Jinsheng is hospitalized. Ji Shang explains that he knowingly accepted the danger to expose his rival decisively rather than remain vulnerable to repeated attacks; Old Master Lu’s reaction signals his disappointment in Lu Jincheng. The provided account does not confirm a completed inheritance 89.
