Peter met that line of sight and was glad that his helmet was still on his head. He couldn't see his lack of confidence. "I'm thinking that if I tell you the truth, you will choose to stand still and wait for Wyndham to discover the flaw on his own, so that my little bug can fish out a larger Hydra network. For more information, you will bet the lives of my uncle and aunt. I... can't take this risk."
Fury stared at him for a few seconds, and finally looked away. "We will settle this account later. Now... we have other troubles." He waved to the agent on the side. The door to the rest area opened, Ben Parker, Mei·Parker, Richard·Parker, Walter·Hardy, and Jessica·Drew walked out together.
As soon as Jessica appeared, Peter's attention was completely attracted. He could ignore it on the battlefield before, but when he relaxed now, he had to admit that this person's figure was really terrible. Jessica also felt something, biting his lip and looked over. The two of them took two steps back almost at the same time, and distanced themselves in tacit understanding.
Ben and Mei were close together, their eyes dazed and confused, and they kept glancing in Richard's direction, as if they still couldn't believe that the person standing in front of them was real. Walter strode to their daughter's side, and hugged Felicia into his arms.
Fury crossed his arms. "Ben Mr. Parker, Ms. Mei Parker, I believe my agents have told you about the current situation?"
Ben hugged his wife and nodded. "There is... there is a terrorist organization that wants my brother's research results." He turned to Richard next to him, "They want his things. For this reason, they kidnapped us and forced Peter to take the things and change them?"
"Where is Peter?" Mei suddenly blurted out, "Is he okay? Did they hurt him?"
Fury rarely showed a smile, "Don't worry, Mrs. Parker, Peter is very good." Then he turned to Richard, "This is an unexpected surprise. I thought you were no longer alive, Dr. Parker."
Richard nodded, his voice full of the weight of time. "Yes, it's been a long time."
"How is that possible? Where have you been all these years?" Ben's voice was trembling.
Richard lowered his head in shame. "I was imprisoned. Imprisoned by Wyndham. I... I tried to escape, countless times, but I failed every time."
"Why did they do this to you? What happened back then?" Mei asked in a trembling voice.
There was anger in Richard's eyes. "That air crash was not an accident at all. They boarded the plane, hijacked Mary and me, and then jumped out with parachutes. They must have tampered with the engine, because when we were floating in the air, I saw with my own eyes that the plane crashed into the sea together with all the passengers."
Logan growled, "Kill three hundred people just to cover up the kidnapping of two people." Peter had to admit in his heart: Although this plan is cruel, it is indeed smart.
"Mary, she resisted desperately, and then..." Richard's voice suddenly broke, "I saw with my own eyes that her parachute was disconnected, and she fell with the person who kidnapped her. I want to do it too. The same thing, but I... I was too scared. Wyndham caught me and threatened me with your life and Peter's life to work for him. I can't... I will never let that happen."
Fury asked in a deep voice, "He asked you to make the formula for him?"
Richard nodded. "Yes."
"Then why didn't you create it? It's been fifteen years, you have time to start over." Fury raised his eyebrows.
Richard showed a sad and proud smile, "Mary... She is the one who really cracked the code. Wyndham always regarded me as a genius and Mary as a beautiful vase, but he was wrong. Mary is the real one Genius, she is the only one who knows how to make the formula. She wanted to tell me, but I didn't let her say - by then we had already suspected that Hydra was targeting us, and the fewer people who knew, the safer it would be. I just delayed it for almost ten years, until Wyndham finally gave up. He transferred me to another project - Test Subject D."
"Me?" Jessica opened his eyes wide.
Richard looked at her and nodded slowly. "Yes, it's you. He wanted me to copy your blood. They found you five years ago and started experimenting with your special ability. I had to make some progress in this direction, otherwise he would kill my family. So I... helped him. It wasn't anything big, just enough to satisfy him."
"Five, five years? But I've only been awake for ten months!" Jessica cried out.
Johnny looked blank. "Wait, who can explain it to me? I didn't understand it from beginning to end."
Richard sighed, "Jessica has been frozen in ice. She suffered from a rare disease. Her father, Jonathan Drew, is one of my best friends. He saved her life with the self-developed experimental Super Soldier Serum. The serum saved her life, but to be fully effective, she had to lie in deep sleep for a long time... a long time."
Felicia asked softly, "How long?"
Jessica's voice was deep. "Twenty years."
Fury brought the topic back. "So, you really can't make that formula?"
Richard looked at him. "Yes, I'm sorry."
Fury snorted, "No, there's nothing to be sorry for. It's best not to let this kind of power fall into anyone's hands." He glanced at Peter pointedly, "Who knows which crazy boy it will end up in the hands of."
Peter's face hidden under the helmet grinned. "I love you too, Fury. But you should know that I am straight, right?"
Fury rolled his eyes fiercely and rubbed his temples vigorously. "What a troublemaker."
"Then... what now?" Ben asked with some anxiety.
Fury looked at him. "Sorry?"
"What will happen next? Will you let us go?" Ben pulled his wife into his arms again.
Fury nodded. "Of course. You two can leave, but you must first talk to our lawyer and sign a confidentiality agreement - this is a matter of national security. You cannot disclose what happens here to anyone." Ben and Mei nodded quickly. Fury turned to Richard again E: "As for you... I think you have suffered enough over the years. As long as you spend a few days and explain everything the people in our laboratory want to know about what you have done for Wyndham, I will have no reason to separate you from your family anymore."
Richard's eyes sparkled. "Really?"
"Really. Now--"
"--Thank you!" Richard rushed over with a bear hug, hugging the dignified director so much that his eyebrows raised.
Fury was strangled and muttered, "It seems this is a family inheritance." As he spoke, he waved to summon several agents to escort the Parker family away, assuring them that they would be able to go home soon.
Peter walked to Fury, lowered his voice and said, "Thank you."
Fury sighed, "You did save the situation today... Stop messing around alone." Peter nodded and said nothing. Then Fury turned to Charles·Xavier, "It was indeed my fault. Your X-Men... is irreplaceable."
Charles smiled, "I'm glad that you can change your mind, Fury. If we can convince people like you, that means we still have hope."
Fury also laughed, "I can't guarantee it, Professor, there are many people with tougher heads than mine in this world. Can I continue to count on your team?"
Charles stretched out his hand and shook his hand tightly. "This is my original intention of establishing them."
The two men looked at each other and smiled, with only respect in each other's eyes.
Qin's voice sounded softly in Peter's mind, "It seems that our date has been ruined, everyone."
Felicia shrugged and smiled, "It's okay, just set a time. Peter can fly us over at any time."
Qin waved to them and bid farewell generously in front of them, but quietly passed through her mind a list of attractions she wanted to visit in the future. X-Men's jet soared into the sky, and Peter watched it go away.
Then Johnny and Captain America also left one after another. Johnny patted Peter on the shoulder before leaving, thanking him for bringing such a cool adventure; and Steve plans to verify whether what Wyndham said about him having a son is true. Peter sincerely hopes for Steve that it is not true - but he also knows that he is just deceiving himself.
Finally, Fury turned his attention to Walter Hardy: "Walter Hardy, as a thank you for your assistance, I hereby reduce your sentence by five years."
Felicia immediately asked, "How long will he have to sit there?"
"Two lives." Walter spat out these words calmly, and Felicia immediately stayed where he was.
"What?! That's not fair! You never hurt anyone! You only steal from people who are just trying to get rich - that's not fair!"
Walter pulled the crying daughter into his arms and hugged her tightly, "I know, Xiaomao, I know. I'm sorry, I can't go home yet. I swear, one day I will come back. Before that... hug your mother for me and tell her I love her."
Fury signaled to the agents, and the two stepped forward to take Walter away. Felicia was forcibly pulled away from his father's arms, and Walter lowered his head and was escorted away step by step.
"Dad! Don't go!" Felicia cried and wanted to chase her, but Walter shook his head heavily at her. She stood there, trembling all over from crying. Peter came from behind her He slowly leaned over and reached out to pull her into his arms. She lay on his shoulder and sobbed muffled. He could only hold her like that, unable to do anything. This feeling of powerlessness made his chest feel clogged, but he had no other choice but to hold the girl he loved tightly.
S.H.I.E.L.D. sent a car to take them back to the construction site, where Peter's flying car was still parked. Fury told him that Ben and Mei would not be able to go home until tomorrow morning at the earliest, and would have to be questioned at S.H.I.E.L.D. for a whole day; as for Richard, it would take even longer.
There is still a big drama waiting for Peter - he must play out the part of the story that "Peter·Parker" should have experienced. The official statement is: Peter accidentally found in the old hard drive left by his father He discovered the formula, but was targeted by Hydra; as soon as Ben and Mei were kidnapped, he immediately contacted S.H.I.E.L.D., and then with the assistance of Spider-Man, Captain America and several other heroes, he successfully rescued his uncle and aunt.
He really hated the secret identity thing more and more.
The flying car drove into the night sky, and Peter turned to look at Felicia. She leaned against the car window and looked at the slowly emerging stars outside. Her eyes were blank, and her mind was obviously spinning rapidly. Peter knew exactly what she was thinking.
"You can't do it alone." He spoke first.
Felicia turned around. "What to do?"
"You can't get your dad out of any prison in S.H.I.E.L.D. on your own."
Her eyes immediately widened. "You have found your father, Peter, but I haven't. I won't just-" just because of this difficulty.
"Hey, hey, I didn't mean that."
"Then what do you mean?!"
Peter simply took off his helmet, turned around and looked straight at her. "I mean, you can't last a second alone. But What If...?, if you happen to know a superhero who is super skilled and is very good at annoying S.H.I.E.L.D.... then maybe you can still have a chance."
Felicia's eyes widened suddenly: "How do you know--"
"How do you know what you are planning?" Peter smiled softly, "You are my girlfriend, this is my responsibility, Xiaomao." He reached out and held her hand, squeezed it, "I will always be on your side, Felicia. Always. Just... don't do anything impulsive. Wait, let's come up with a plan together, and then--"
She rushed forward and blocked his mouth. The on-board artificial intelligence immediately took over the driving system and stabilized the flying posture. Peter wrapped his arms around her and slowly moved his face away. She pressed her forehead against his and said softly, "I love you, Peter."
He grinned. "I love you too, don't try to break into an international government agency by yourself."
Felicia finally smiled, "Okay. But you owe me."
He rolled his eyes. "Okay, who would make me happy?"
The next day, everything felt indescribably awkward. Ben and Mei finally came out of S.H.I.E.L.D. and returned home. Peter lay there as planned, playing the role of an overly frightened little nephew. Their attitude towards him was a little weird, a lot more reserved than usual. It wasn't until Ben called him aside later that he understood the reason.
"Peter... There is something you should know about your father." When Ben said this, Mei held his arm tightly.
Peter said "Ah" in his heart, but put on an innocent smile on his face, "What's the matter, Uncle Ben?"
"He... he's still alive, Peter."
Then there is the "abridged" story told by Ben. In his account, Mary's parachute only "failed" and did not actively die to prevent the formula from leaking; Richard has been in the hands of Wyndham over the years. The days were also described as if they were not so painful. Peter almost gave himself an Oscar after hearing this. He excused himself as needing some quiet time, packed up his bag and went out. Ben and Mei thought he needed to digest his emotions, but in fact he just wanted to leave the house quickly - acting was so damn tiring.
After walking only a few streets, he heard someone shouting, "Peter!" He stopped and sighed. It was almost.
He turned around and saw Mary walking towards him. She was wearing a loose white top with a faint black shoulder strap, jeans and sandals, a green baseball cap on her head, and pink sunglasses.
Peter smiled, "Hey, Mary, what's the matter?"
"Nothing, are you going out? What's the news? Which super villain did you beat up recently?"
"Shh--keep your voice down!" He looked around nervously, but luckily there was no one around. "I'm a person with a secret identity!"
