"Interesting." Matt didn't ask any more questions, and walked into the night with the child in his arms.
When Matt sent the boy to the nearest police station, Peter stayed in the dark. When it was over, he helped Matt back to the apartment. No matter how strong he was, Peter could see that Matt was in terrible pain.
Pushing open the window, Peter let Matt in first. Matt fell onto the sofa, pulled off his mask, and gasped for air.
"You need to change your outfit." Peter said.
"Then can you introduce me to the tailor of your uniform?" Matt said with a smile, "I can hear the gadgets in your clothes. Last time we met, your equipment was not so advanced."
"It's progress." Peter sat down next to him, "If you want, I can make you a set."
"Really?"
Peter nodded. "As long as you really want it." According to the original trajectory, Matt's uniform should be handled by others, but now if he can be given top-level protection, Peter will not hesitate.
"I don't have much money," Matt confessed, "I can't afford your high technology. By the way, where did you get these things?"
"I have an errand during the day, didn't you know?"
"What to do? Tony·Stark?" Matt joked.
Peter raised the corner of his mouth. "No, but it's not far off."
"Wait, are you serious?"
"Seriously. I'm an inventor. I make cool stuff and earn money from patents."
"Is there any work I know of?"
"Well, sorry, it's mostly corporate orders." Peter waved his hand, "Anyway, Matt, as long as you ask, I will make the uniform for you."
Matt was silent for a moment and nodded slowly. "Okay, please. I don't want to die silently in an alley. I wish I could have some decent equipment."
"It's a deal. I'll send it as soon as possible." Peter thought, maybe after Matt overthrows Kingpin, even if this uniform won't last long, someone else will remake it for him. But it doesn't matter, he doesn't mind. He can get used to making uniforms for superheroes. When he was a child, he always loved to design new uniforms for the heroes in his heart.
"Matt," Peter asked, "Why did they arrest that child? Who are they?"
"Russian Mob." Matt said, "The kid was caught to fish me out."
"Is there a special reason?"
"I made them unable to sit still." Matt hummed.
"Well, I've recently discovered that sporadic crime incidents on the streets are much less than after that incident. It's not normal for them to suddenly do this."
"Crime has not decreased, boy, but criminals have become smarter." Matt said in a deep voice, "You are like a lighthouse. They know they can't defeat you, and as soon as you appear, they retreat into the darkness like cockroaches that see the light. So now you can't see anyone openly confronting you, they have already been scared out of their wits."
Peter:"Am I that scary?"
"Yes." Matt nodded, "I have heard about your deeds. Who is willing to fight with someone who uses Iron Man technology, fights with Captain America, and has Spider skills like yours?"
"Okay, okay, you'll make me blush if you praise me again." Peter grinned, and then his expression straightened, "If what you said is true, then crime is not decreasing, but hiding deeper. Okay... Okay, I will have to be more careful from now on. Thanks, Matt."
Matt nodded. "That's right. If you are serious about continuing in this business, you should know that there is a new person in the city. I haven't found out his name yet, but all the gangs have become so thieves recently, all because of someone behind the scenes. I was originally chasing a clue from the Russians, but they played this trick. Oh, I wish you better luck than me."
Peter looked at Matt and sighed, "His name is Wilson·Fisk."
"What?" Matt turned his face and looked at the wall behind Peter's shoulder with his eyes that were hard to focus.
"Wilson·Fisk, this is the person you are looking for. Although I have not touched the underground world, my ears are still sharp. There is not much information about him. He is in the real estate business. He is a big man and has a lot of fat, but underneath the fat is all hard muscles."
"I understand." Matt nodded, "I will find a way to find out more about him."
"Are you acting as a masked vigilante, or as a lawyer Matt·Murdock?" Peter walked to the window.
"Use both." Matt said, paused and hummed, "Speaking of which, you never told me your name."
"You already knew--Spider-Man." Peter chuckled, turned over and jumped out of the window, swinging into the distance.
He patrolled for a few more hours, focusing on Hell's Kitchen. If Fisk controls this place, then he must be more cautious in every move he makes. Perhaps, it is time to consider an undercover operation.
To be an undercover agent, you need a pseudonym... How about Bruce·Wayne?
Haha, that must be fun.
Peter came home much later than usual that day, and it was almost two o'clock in the morning when he came in. He had just put on his pajamas and got into bed, when the mobile phone assigned to S.H.I.E.L.D. suddenly buzzed.
Peter cursed secretly, and he grabbed the phone--Fury.
"Hi, my second favorite one-eyed dragon! How is everything going?" Peter smiled when he answered.
"Greenpoint Avenue Bridge, right now. Don't wear uniform." Fury said this and hung up.
Damn it, what does this old guy want? Peter could almost swear that Fury had planned it and specifically picked the moment when he took off his uniform to call.
After muttering a few words, drinking a glass of water, and chewing on an energy bar, his energy finally came back. He put on a dark sports suit, put on a black ski mask and a spare Silk-Shooter, and was prepared. With an appointment with the world's number one spy in the middle of the night, anything could happen.
Wearing the old transmitter, he swung one block away from the bridge and walked instead. Just as he was about to get on the bridge, he caught a glimpse of a man standing next to a tree - a gray sportswear suit with a luggage bag on his shoulder. Peter looked closely and recognized Fury's face.
Fury turned around and walked into a small park overlooking the bridge. The two sat down on a bench, surrounded by shrubs half a person's height. There was a faint sour smell of urine and beer in the air.
"Why are you so mysterious?" Peter asked, "Why don't you just go to the safe house to meet us."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. was penetrated." Fury got straight to the point.
Peter eyes widened. "What did you say?"
"The base coordinates you stole from Wyndham's computer." Fury took out a stack of documents from the luggage bag and handed them over, "I ordered a simultaneous raid, but it was delayed for twelve hours. In these twelve hours, they all ran away."
Peter opened the folder, and the photo showed a room that had just been vacated. The tables, chairs, and furniture were all there, but not even a corner of paper could be found.
"Damn it." Peter breathed, "How could it be? The only people who know my list are the team members who participated in the raid Wyndham, and you."
"After you handed me the hard drive, I immediately ordered a simultaneous search of all locations." Fury looked directly into his eyes, "But we have to wait twelve hours before we can start. And in this short window period, they evacuated completely."
"How is it possible to evacuate such a large base in twelve hours?"
"Most of them were not evacuated." Fury pulled out a photo of a building that had been burned to rubble. "Most of them were burned directly."
"But even if it's like this, twelve hours?" Peter pondered, "This is simply impossible, unless--"
"--The list was leaked, and someone tipped it off in advance." Fury finished for him.
"Wow... that means there are spies around us." Peter said.
"More than one, many, and they are deeply rooted inside S.H.I.E.L.D.." Fury said solemnly, "To be able to obtain this level of information... the penetration is so powerful that it makes people hairy."
"Could it be someone from a higher level?"
"It won't be a high-level person." Fury stared at him.
"What?"
"It's you."
