One week later.

Peter stood in the ward, looking down at Rosie.

She was lying there with a peaceful expression on her face.

The ward door opened and a woman walked in. The blond, beautiful woman who said he was "too young" at the dinner party. Peter now knows her name - Agent Morse, also called Bobbi. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been monitoring that place, and she is the person in charge of this case.

"Has the doctor said when she will wake up?" Bobbi asked.

"No." Peter said, "She is still in a coma. It turns out there was a blood clot in her brain. If it hadn't been for this injury, the doctors would never have discovered it. The fact that she survived is a miracle in itself. The brain must heal first... and then the body."

Bobbi nodded. "Then why are you here, Peter?"

Peter smiled, "I am a friend. Otto Now... is not very good. He will want to come and guard her. All I can do is watch for him."

"Really?" Bobbi's eyes narrowed, "You knew the accident would happen?"

Peter sighed, "You don't really think I destroyed it, do you?"

"No." She smiled, "Why are you so defensive about me?"

Peter couldn't help but roll his eyes. Compared with Natasha who turned conversation into an art, this one was a complete novice. He sighed, "Listen, Agent Morse, I want to help you, but I can't."

"Why?"

"This is not your responsibility."

"What?" She raised her eyebrows.

"Call Fury and ask him about me. He may complain a few words at first, but he will eventually tell you." Peter patted her shoulder, "He has important information that he has not disclosed to you. Get that information first so that you can see the whole picture."

Peter walked out of Rosie's ward and walked towards the elevator.

Bobbi·Morse. Mockingbird. To be honest, he was a little disappointed. This version of her is completely incomparable to the one in the comics, and is almost as weak as cannon fodder. But I have to admit, she is quite smart.

She didn't know that he used to work for S.H.I.E.L.D.. She didn't know why Fury kept it from her. But anyway, he was regarded as the number one suspect, which showed how short-sighted she was.

Bobbi's investigation progressed very slowly. However, he no longer cared. The only thing he cared about was that Rosie could survive. As long as she was still alive, Otto could be saved. He heard that Otto was being treated in a private hospital.

And Norman?

Peter felt a little sorry for him. According to statistics after the accident, thirteen people lost their lives in that experiment. Those people were either rich or noble, so Norman was prosecuted.

The media called it the "Trial of the Century", and Peter thought it was a joke. The charge of intentional homicide was simply untenable, it was an accident. Of course, they could extract a large amount of compensation from him, but it would be difficult to imprison him.

Peter drove back to Baxter Building and took the elevator upstairs.

The structural safety repairs of the building have been completed. In the past week, Fantastic Four has gradually moved various scientific equipment into the new laboratory. Currently, only his and Johnny's laboratories have been repaired. Their equipment has the least damage and the least parts that need to be replaced.

He stepped into the fully decorated living room.

"Hey, guys."

"Hey, Peter." Ben sat in his special chair, flipping SA in his hand, "How about Rosie?"

"It's still the same." Peter took off his coat and sighed. He looked out the window and saw that it had begun to snow. November came to an end, and winter came with a severe chill.

"Is she going to be okay?" Sue's voice came from the back of the room.

She was nestled in a love sofa, holding a book in her hand, wearing a blue sweater that matched the color of her eyes, and yoga pants. The sofa was too small, so she curled up with her legs and huddled up.

"I don't know." Peter only replied.

Su nodded and looked back at the book.

Since... that kiss, neither of them knew how to get along with each other. Fortunately, no one had mentioned it so far. But he knew that it was only a matter of time before he was exposed.

Peter looked around. "Where is Johnny? Did you go out with Liz?"

Ben snorted, "Yes."

"What about you, Ben? The doctor lady is out of town?" Peter poured himself a cup of black coffee and asked with a smile.

"Betty went out of state to visit her mother." Ben muttered, "Be back before Christmas."

"Not bad, did you buy her a gift?"

"No... should I buy it?"

"Oh yes," Su looked up from the book and smiled, "Give her... a book? I don't know."

"I know!" Peter grinned, "Rock climbing equipment!"

"Peter!" Su glared at him.

"Ha! That's a good idea, kid." Ben said happily, "I have to write it down!"

Peter smiled proudly at Su: "Look, there's no harm. I'm much more humorous than Johnny."

He walked to the center of the living room and stopped. He looked around - another sofa was piled with books, and the remaining sofas all had scorch marks in the shape of his butt because Johnny was sitting around.

Su noticed his embarrassment and moved to the side. Peter stiffly said "thank you" and sat down next to her. The lover's sofa was so crowded that the two of them were almost touching each other.

He drank coffee and glanced at the book in her hand.

""Mockingbird"? Ha." It's interesting. He just talked to an agent in the morning who would use this title in the future.

Su nodded. "Yes, I finally have time to read it."

"Well... the story of a man who was persecuted for being different and another man who stood up to defend him."

"Yeah." Su sighed, "It's a pity that the defender is also a racist."

Peter was stunned. "What?"

Su smiled, "Atticus is indeed a racist, but he believes in the law more. So he has a dual personality."

"Real or false." Peter muttered and took a sip of coffee.

"Boy, what are your plans for the holidays?" Ben asked.

"No." Peter sighed, "Aunt May and Uncle Ben are staying where they were. My dad, you are helping track down Wyndham's clues at S.H.I.E.L.D., as you know. And I... just stay here."

"You are not alone, you have us." Su blurted out. The two looked at each other, she blushed, and added, "All of us. If you want, you can spend Christmas with us."

Peter smiled, "Thank you, Su. I'm very grateful. Maybe I will really agree."

Su lowered his head, curved the corners of his mouth, and looked back at the book.

Peter sat there, but his thoughts were far away.

Rosie is still in the hospital. Will Otto come to her? Or will he go to Norman - the person who ruined everything for him? What will he do?

Peter sighed. Why is he still thinking about this? This is no longer his problem. Bobbi will handle it, she can handle it.

A little voice came out in my head: Do you really believe it?

He laughed at himself. He even wanted to scold himself for his own brain. But he really didn't know what to do. How to do it? Put on a suit and a mask and rush out as soon as something happened? He was no longer that Peter. He no longer felt that everything was his fault. That was not his responsibility, not anymore.

He got up and walked out.

Su raised her head. "Where to go?"

"Laboratory. I have to do some work. I won't be able to take any time off." He said without looking back.

I walked into the laboratory and locked the door. Almost all the broken things were replaced with new ones. The terminal and computer were okay, but the destroyed machine had to be replaced. Fortunately, all files were backed up and the data was not lost.

Open the system, and the blueprint of the latest project appears in front of you as a holographic image.

A gun. Not much bigger than a Glock. The difference is that it doesn't shoot bullets - it's an upgraded version of the electromagnetic pulse gun.

He made several modifications. There are two modes: one is EMP mode, which shoots high-energy electromagnetic beams and destroys all circuits; the other is converts magnetic energy into electrical energy and is used as a stun gun.

This gun he prepared for Otto.

What if one day he really goes crazy?

Why?... He had no answer.

He stared at the holographic model and finally sighed.

Forget it, that's it anyway, let's just finish it.

***

Two hours later, the gun was finished.

He called it "Spider Gun". He put the new weapon on the table and stared at it.

Why?

Why did he build this thing?

It was the same as when he embarked on the path of a hero. MJ said that the world needs heroes, so he spent a whole week creating the first pair of Silk-Shooter. A whole week. For what? For an opportunity?

The cup is empty and I have to go get a refill of coffee.

When he walked into the living room, Ben was staring at the TV news, his mouth wide open.

There were big blood-red letters on the screen. "Otto Octavius escaped! Ten people died in the incident!"

Then there was a video: Otto was rampaging through the city, throwing away cars and trucks like toys.

"What kind of monster is this guy?" Ben said.

"About an hour ago, the former chief scientist of Osborn Enterprises's clean energy department woke up from a coma. He was injured in the Osborn energy accident nearly a week ago. The doctor originally judged that it was impossible for him to wake up - his brain did not wake up. reason. But he woke up. Reports indicate that about ten people were killed before he ended his death rampage. The police exchanged gunfire with him in a public place, but lost track of him ten minutes ago. Anyone who sees this man should not approach him: he is armed and extremely dangerous."

The screen cut back to the shot of Otto roaring. Peter squinted his eyes and could barely make out what he was shouting--

"Where is my wife?!"

Peter's pupils shrank suddenly. He took a breath of cold air.

"Peter, this guy's robotic arms are very similar to those of yours." Ben said as he turned around, "Hey! What are you running for?!"

Peter had already rushed into the laboratory, grabbed the gun and stuffed it into his jeans. He took the elevator, went downstairs, and drove away.

Otto may have found the location of Rosie. He is a genius. After escaping from the hospital, he can easily find it by hiding and searching. Rosie's accident has long been on the news, and the media even clearly reported which hospital she was in.

He rushed to the hospital in record time. The elevator was crowded with people who couldn't wait. He rushed into the stairwell and ran up the stairs, two steps at a time.

When I ran to the floor where the ward was located, Bobbi was walking over with a cup of hot coffee.

She blinked. "Parker? Why are you here?"

"He's here." Peter said. He didn't wait for Bobbi to react and rushed straight to Rosie's ward.

"What? Stop!" Bobbi threw the coffee cup and ran after him.

Peter didn't care about her. He rushed to the ward and opened the door suddenly--

A metal arm thrust straight towards his face, its sharp claws spread out, about to crush his head.
