After Bai Miaomiao sent her message, the group chat fell completely silent.
In this day and age, marriage was naturally one-to-one. Even if the older generation had arranged a childhood betrothal, surely it would only involve one person.
Ye Xiaxuan did not think so, though. Judging from what her grandfather had said, he had no intention of bringing her and Su Yi together at all. Besides, a childhood betrothal might sound plausible at first, but it was simply unimaginable. Who could possibly have made all three of their families agree to childhood betrothals at the same time?
Bai Miaomiao had only said it offhandedly, of course. She raised her head and looked at Su Yi. What exactly was so outstanding about this honest, unassuming waiter?
Yu Xinghe was already thoroughly tipsy. Pointing at Su Yi, he said in a commanding tone, "Su Yi, after tonight, don't go to school anymore. Got it?"
Su Yi could not even be bothered to respond to that. Wearing a professional smile, he asked instead, "Young Master Yu, would you like any more bottles opened?"
"I'm talking to you! Playing dumb, are you?" As the alcohol went to his head, Yu Xinghe grew angrier the more he thought about it. He grabbed the glass in front of him and hurled it at Su Yi.
Su Yi shifted slightly to the side. The glass flew past him and struck an old man behind him.
The bar lights flickered. The old man stood there without moving. Yu Xinghe glanced at him and shuddered in fright, instantly scared completely sober.
"G-Grandpa, what are you doing here?"
Bai Miaomiao stood up as well. Yu Guoan had actually come to a place like this?
"Outside!" Having said that, Yu Guoan turned and walked out of the bar.
He had actually been keeping a constant eye on news about Su Yi as well. When he learned that Yu Xinghe had gone to the bar to cause trouble for Su Yi, he had already panicked. When he arrived and saw Su Yi opening bottles for Yu Xinghe, his heart nearly leaped out of his chest!
That little bastard was simply courting death!
Su Yi was opening bottles for him?
Damn it! Didn't he know his grandfather used to be nothing more than a servant who poured out Su Yi's foot-washing water?
Had Su Yi not secretly transmitted his voice to tell Yu Guoan to pretend not to know him, he would have nearly dropped to his knees before Su Yi on the spot.
Just moments ago, Yu Xinghe had been like a swaggering wild rooster. At the sight of Yu Guoan, he fell completely apart.
How serious did this have to be for the old man to come to the bar in person to catch him?
He did not need to wonder how Yu Guoan had found him.
The old man had vast abilities, his hands and eyes reaching all the way to heaven. As long as he wanted to find someone, he would definitely find them.
"Yu Xinghe! Can't you stay out of trouble?" Yu Guoan usually doted on this grandson of his, but he also knew exactly what Yu Xinghe was like. That was why he had kept him away from Su Yi, afraid that Yu Xinghe might inadvertently offend him and bring disaster down on the entire Yu family. And now, of all things, he had gone rushing straight toward him himself.
Yu Xinghe forced a smile. "Grandpa, you didn't come here specifically to catch me, did you? It's the middle of the night. Why aren't you sleeping instead of coming to find me?"
"Stop grinning at me!" Yu Guoan clenched his fists. He was genuinely afraid that he might lose control and put righteousness before family. "Go apologize to Su Yi right now! If he forgives you, we can talk. If he refuses to forgive you, you won't be going to school either. You'll spend ten years confined at home, and you won't be allowed to go anywhere."
Ten years of confinement!
And he would not even be allowed to go to school!
To Yu Xinghe, that really was worse than being killed.
The corner of Yu Xinghe's mouth twitched as he asked tentatively, "Grandpa, just who is this Su Yi? Even if he's someone you've picked out for my sister, surely there's no need to go that far."
Yu Guoan shot him a glare. "You don't need to worry about who he is! Just remember this: even if you offend your father, offend me, or offend everyone under heaven, you must never offend him! Have I made myself clear enough?"
"I... I understand," Yu Xinghe said. "I'll go apologize to him right away."
Although he still had no idea who Su Yi was, his grandfather had made it so plain that if he still refused to apologize, he really might end up confined at home for ten years.
"Wait. I'm coming with you!" How could Yu Guoan possibly feel reassured?
Su Yi seemed approachable, but he still remembered certain blind fools who had crossed Su Yi's bottom line. With no more than a wave of Su Yi's hand, they had turned to ash and vanished.
If he went in with him and Su Yi grew angry, he could only hope that, for the sake of their time as master and servant, Su Yi would spare Yu Xinghe's life.
When the old man and the young man returned to the bar, Su Yi had already started clearing the table. The group from the Green Mountain Martial Arts School no longer dared act recklessly either. The Yu family's old patriarch was here. How could they dare make any more trouble?
The more Bai Miaomiao thought about it, however, the more she felt there was more to Su Yi than met the eye.
It was already past three in the morning. Given Yu Guoan's standing, what sort of matter would bring him to a bar at this hour?
Yu Xinghe and his grandfather finally returned, and Su Yi was still clearing away the bottles.
"Brother-in-law, I'm sorry. I promise I'll never bother you and my sister again. If there's anything you want to know about my sister, I can tell you." Yu Xinghe was quick on his feet. An apology alone surely would not do. He had to show some sincerity.
Wouldn't calling him brother-in-law resolve any grudge between them?
Su Yi's brow furrowed deeply, but his gaze landed on Yu Guoan.
Yu Guoan trembled all over and immediately moved to kneel, only for an unseen force to prevent him from doing so.
"Mas... Su... Mr. Su, I'm sorry. The child doesn't know any better. Please don't take what he said to heart." Yu Guoan had originally meant to address him as Master, but realized that this was not the right setting.
Address him directly by name? He dared even less!
He could only call him Mr. Su.
Even so, Yu Guoan remained filled with fear and trepidation, terrified that Su Yi might erase them from existence at the slightest displeasure.
"It's fine. Children speak without restraint," Su Yi said with a smile. "However, I cannot become a son-in-law of your Yu family. Do you understand?"
"Yes! Yes!" Yu Guoan's face instantly turned deathly pale, and the back of his clothes was already soaked through.
If Yu Xinghe called Su Yi brother-in-law, wouldn't Su Yi have to call him Grandpa?
At that moment, Yu Guoan could barely even stand steadily. That little brat Yu Xinghe-why hadn't he slapped him to death just now?
"Are you still drinking? If not, I'll get back to work." Su Yi's expression was calm. He began considering whether he should keep working here. Having these people turn up every day was rather annoying.
Yu Guoan hurriedly waved his hands. "No, we're done! We're done!"
Keep drinking? Have Su Yi open bottles for him?
Was he not planning to leave through that door alive today?
"Then I'll leave you to it." With that, Su Yi went back to clearing away the bottles.
Yu Guoan instinctively wanted to step forward and help, but in the end, a look from Su Yi stopped him.
Bai Miaomiao had stood to the side watching from beginning to end.
Wasn't the Yu family's old patriarch's attitude toward Su Yi far too strange?
Even if Su Yi possessed the talent to govern the world, he was still only a young man. Yet Old Master Yu's attitude toward Su Yi could already be described as reverent awe.
