Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Qi Refining 171 Confirmed retrospectively: Mo Ze remembers seeing her at this realm two days before discovering her False Core.
False Core 169 171 Her realm during the confrontation with Xia Shanhe. Su Yi immobilizes the stronger Golden Core cultivator, allowing her to beat him.
Early Golden Core 217 228 301 Forms her Golden Core under Su Yi’s instruction, supported by his cultivation method and calligraphy. Her early-stage cultivation is later stated explicitly.
Five-Foot Sword Gang 266 Masters the sword spirit’s defensive technique while trying to keep a slain monster’s black blood off her clothes.
Golden Core consolidation 361 363 Fierce beast meat, wine, and Su Yi’s assistance trigger ten days of sudden enlightenment. Her body strengthens, her marrow is purified, and her unusual blue-green core becomes more substantial. She suspects she has reached the late stage.
Late Golden Core — confirmed 467 Explicitly confirmed after sustained pill refinement. Her mental control has also improved substantially.
Purple sword transformation 499 Innate Primordial Violet Qi merges into her dantian, and her core becomes a small purple sword rather than a Nascent Soul. Su Yi subsequently finds her realm difficult to classify.
Full violet-qi integration 510 515 Her physical attributes, perception, and mental abilities multiply. Although she still appears to be a Golden Core cultivator, Su Yi considers her roughly Nascent Soul at most; with her enhancement active, she can contend with a late Spirit Transformation cultivator.
First-grade Mortal Immortal 548 549 Her starting cultivation during her early Heavenly Palace battles.
Second-grade Mortal Immortal 549 Breaks through after narrowly defeating a stronger sword immortal without Soul Severing.
Fourth-grade Mortal Immortal 564 592 Su Yi initially estimates that ten thousand Immortal Spirit Coins could bring her to this level. A later account confirms it as the starting point of her furnace-assisted ascent.
Earth Immortal 579 Advances while her furnace converts attacks from hundreds of Golden Immortals into absorbable Immortal Qi.
Ninth-grade Earth Immortal 579 Reaches the ninth grade within a day during the same siege.
Ninth-grade Heavenly Immortal 592 593 Continued bombardment by over a thousand Golden Immortals fuels her ascent. Her method has no bottlenecks, but its Immortal Qi requirements become exceptionally high.
Soul Severing’s third seal released — weapon milestone 834 Breaks Su Yi’s third seal while trapped in Dijun’s formation. A full-powered strike becomes sufficient to kill a Daluo Golden Immortal; this is an offensive capability, not a stated cultivation realm.

Background / History

Ye Family upbringing

Ye Xiaxuan grew up in a distinguished merchant family. She studied the Four Books, Five Classics, and medical texts from childhood, then continued her education at home after finishing high school. Her grandfather, Ye Lin, hired exceptional private teachers for her 84 566.

Her upbringing was sheltered and academically demanding. She had few close friends, spent much of her time studying alone, and developed the reserved bearing of a well-bred young lady. She also grew accustomed to seriously ill patients waiting or kneeling outside the family estate to seek Ye Lin’s treatment 97 170.

Becoming Su Yi’s disciple

Ye Lin sent her to seek Su Yi as a master. She initially agreed out of trust in her grandfather and specifically asked to study medicine, but Su Yi’s youthful appearance and casual demands made her skeptical. After Jiang Chao recovered from a slap as Su Yi predicted, she suspected the encounter had been staged and walked out 38 39.

Ye Lin ordered her to return, declaring that the Ye Family’s prosperity for the next hundred years depended on the opportunity. She resumed addressing Su Yi as Master and began following his instructions, although she initially found the discipleship embarrassing enough to conceal from acquaintances 40 41 48.

Ye Family rebellion

Her second uncle, Ye Jingguo, attempted to seize control of the family with Xia Shanhe’s backing. During the crisis, she treated the collapsing Ye Lin with acupuncture and considered asking Su Yi for help, but her grandfather refused to involve him in the family’s disgrace 171 173.

Xia Shanhe abandoned the conspirators after realizing that Su Yi’s disciple was present. Ye Xiaxuan secured her father’s release without openly provoking Xia Shanhe, recognizing that Su Yi was not there to protect her. Ye Lin subsequently died, and Su Yi comforted her before killing Xia Shanhe for his role in the events 174 175 176 177.

Appearance

  • Bearing: Recognized for her beauty and refined, wealthy-family demeanor; Wang Xiu compares her to a fairy when they meet 62 86 97.
  • Early accessory: Wears a purple-gold bracelet with intricate phoenix carvings 62.
  • Hanfu: Su Yi adjusts her clothing, arranges her hair with two hairpins, and drapes a silk shawl over her shoulders. The completed look markedly transforms her bearing and impresses Aiweixier and Lin Yiyun 250.
  • Wrist-worn treasures: Soul Severing can become a bracelet, and she also wears a Torch Dragon sinew around her wrist 355 380.
  • Field clothing: Changes into Thirteenth Bureau protective clothing while collecting materials from fierce beast carcasses 343.

Personality

Originally reserved and unsmiling, Ye Xiaxuan becomes noticeably more playful after meeting Su Yi. She jokes with him, adopts the authority of a supposed older cousin, and occasionally tries to turn his troublesome training arrangements back on him. Despite this familiarity, an authoritative glance or command from him can still make her retreat 80 97 140 354.

She is kindhearted and courteous to household staff, whose older members treat her like a daughter. Early in her cultivation, she has no experience of killing and worries that using an axe in combat could get her executed. Her medical interests also extend to her family: she treats Ye Lin and later seeks a pill that might extend her father’s life 173 177 220 386 388.

Her feelings for Su Yi make her affectionate, easily embarrassed, and jealous of perceived romantic rivals. Yet her attachment develops into a motivation to improve rather than merely seek protection: in the Immortal Realm, she resolves to become stronger for the person she loves, and later confronts the demon generals rather than remain dependent on Su Yi 210 330 560 666.

Her confidence often exceeds her understanding of cultivation. She initially mistakes Su Yi’s intervention and Soul Severing’s intimidation for proof of her own overwhelming strength. Experience gradually makes her more resourceful, capable of bluffing covetous immortals and remaining composed before a Daluo Golden Immortal administrator 169 340 342 559 596.

Abilities & Skills

Swordsmanship

Ye Xiaxuan learns from Su Yi’s instruction, demonstrations performed through her body, and Soul Severing’s artifact spirits. Su Yi emphasizes understanding sword intent over accumulating miscellaneous techniques 233 485.

  • Sword intent: Her intent, combined with Soul Severing, threatens opponents well above her cultivation realm, including the Nascent Soul cultivator Liao Yunxing 298.
  • Immortal-Slaying Sword Strike: Develops an understanding of the technique through the clash with Kong Wuliang and subsequent practice. She later uses it to win a difficult match without Soul Severing 472 485 549.
  • Five-Foot Sword Gang: Condenses sword Qi into a defensive barrier five feet from her body, described as impervious to arts 266.
  • Sword flight: Initially cannot fly on a sword despite reaching Golden Core; sustained training eventually makes flight effortless 340 467 510.
  • Limitations: Strong sword intent does not eliminate differences in speed, perception, or cultivation. Against a Golden Immortal while still at Golden Core, she cannot fully lock onto her opponent and succeeds partly because he underestimates her 499.

Su Yi’s Cultivation Method

Her method produces an unconventional cultivation path, including a blue-green Golden Core interwoven with Heavenly Dao power and its later transformation into a purple sword 363 499.

  • No cultivation bottlenecks: With sufficient Immortal Qi, she can continue advancing rapidly 564 592.
  • High energy requirements: At Heavenly Immortal, she needs roughly twice the Immortal Spirit Coins required by an ordinary cultivator at the same stage, possibly more 592.
  • Comprehension support: Su Yi supplies cultivation methods and calligraphy, while his room provides exceptional opportunities to comprehend techniques 228 306 316.
  • Not a conventional Nascent Soul: Even Su Yi hesitates to assign her an ordinary realm after her core becomes a sword 510.

Innate Primordial Violet Qi

As a Heavenly Dao Guardian and true Chosen One, Ye Xiaxuan receives enhancements associated with the Heavenly Dao. Once the violet qi fully integrates with her, its benefits extend across physical and mental abilities 515.

  • Combat enhancement: Approximately fivefold increases in strength, speed, and reactions, alongside greater resistance, divine sense, and mental power 515 594.
  • Flaw perception: Reveals weaknesses in opponents’ moves and improves her learning ability 515.
  • Threat awareness: Makes her more sensitive to hostile killing intent and other auras 515.
  • Ore inspection: Applies the same flaw-detecting perception to stones, helping her profit from Immortal Realm stone shops 566 596.
  • Consumption: Activating the enhancement gradually consumes her violet qi 515.
  • Heavenly protection: Lightning interrupts Han Zhen’s sword intent when her life is endangered; Su Yi identifies it as the Heavenly Dao’s intervention 511.

Alchemy and Samadhi True Fire

Pill refinement becomes both a practical skill and a means of strengthening her mental control 467.

  • Heaven Grade Clear Mind Pill: Successfully produces the pill despite a furnace explosion. Su Yi explains that it can calm her father’s mind but cannot extend his life 388.
  • Nine-Fall Spirit Cold Pill: Refines a pill impressive enough that Tang Qiye mistakes her for a Sage. She insists on receiving the promised ten thousand Immortal Spirit Coins rather than ceremonial honors 563.
  • Samadhi True Fire: Uses the fire around her furnace during the Golden Immortal siege while continuing to cultivate inside 579.
  • Cultivation synergy: Her furnace refines incoming attacks into pure Immortal Qi, allowing her to turn an extended siege into rapid advancement 579 592.

Medicine and Martial Arts

  • Medical education: Reads medical texts extensively from childhood and memorizes the entire Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon 84 362.
  • Acupuncture: Carries silver needles and uses them to revive Ye Lin during the family crisis 173.
  • Clinical treatment: Treats Old Lin before returning to question Su Yi about his past 210.
  • Martial arts foundation: Has practiced martial arts before fighting cultivators, though she initially lacks actual cultivation-combat experience 169.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Soul Severing — Her life-bound sword, formally made hers by Su Yi after her tree-cutting training. He initially disguises it as a wooden sword to avoid attracting attention; it can also become a bracelet 227 355 549.
    • Its spirits teach her swordsmanship and can act independently: one destroys Yu Long’s soul when he attempts an ambush 228 268.
    • Its presence suppresses lesser immortal swords, contributing to Sword Immortal Han’s retreat and other opponents’ inability to draw or control their weapons 340 510 593.
    • Su Yi places seals on its power. Its first seal is already broken by her later sect challenges, and she breaks the third during the battle with Dijun 510 834.
    • It is identified as the strongest weapon in the contemporary world, but possessing it does not make her invincible 805 806.
  • Little Vajra — Her alchemy furnace, made from gold spirit sand. It serves as a refuge against Golden Immortals and demon generals and protects her inside the Hunyuan River Luo Great Formation 579 675 833.
  • Torch Dragon sinew — A treasure worn around her wrist that immediately attracts the alchemist Dongfang Lin’s attention 380.
  • Su Yi’s painting — Kept in her bedroom; Tantai Yue and Long Wen gain cultivation insights from studying it 330.
  • Silver needles — Carried for acupuncture treatment 173.
  • Training weapons — Su Yi has her use an axe for tree-cutting and substitutes ordinary wooden swords when he wants her to train without Soul Severing’s overwhelming advantages 220 511 663.

Relationships

  • Su Yi — Master and romantic partner. Their relationship begins with distrust, develops through instruction and protection, and later includes his proposal to travel west together as a honeymoon. He explicitly calls her his wife 38 39 176 821 834.
  • Ye Lin — Grandfather and the person who arranges her discipleship. She treats him during the family rebellion and is deeply distressed by his death 38 40 173 176.
  • Ye Jingtian — Father. He initially promotes Long Hao as a prospective husband; she later pursues alchemy partly to help him live longer and visits him after returning to Earth 295 388 854.
  • Ye Jingguo — Second uncle and participant in the attempted family takeover, during which he holds a knife to Ye Jingtian’s neck 171 174.
  • Bai Miaomiao — Friend and frequent verbal sparring partner. Ye Xiaxuan questions her closeness to Su Yi and objects when Bai Miaomiao invites him to dinner 48 61 145.
  • Lin Yiyun — Acquaintance whom Ye Xiaxuan initially treats as a possible match for Su Yi. Her presence helps motivate Ye Xiaxuan’s “older cousin” cover story 80 140.
  • Wang Xiu — Appointed her bodyguard by Ye Lin, but immediately reassigned by her to work at the bookshop. His belief that she might become his wife is one-sided 86.
  • Yuan Haoran — Persistent, unwanted admirer. She repeatedly rejects him and briefly claims Su Yi is her husband to discourage his pursuit 237 238 264.
  • Tantai Yue and Long Wen — Powerful beings in childlike forms who stay at her family home. They fear her apparent strength, while she becomes frightened after learning how much stronger they actually are 322 330 385 386.
  • Sun Wukong — Disciple in the Journey to the West expedition. She gives him an ancient demonic artifact as a discipleship gift 653.
  • Jinchanzi — Accepts her as master after recognizing Soul Severing; subsequently disputes seniority with Sun Wukong 661.
  • Xia Shanhe — Predatory cultivator who targets her and later backs her uncle’s rebellion. Su Yi first forces him to become her sparring partner, then kills him after the family crisis 169 170 174 177.
