Smack!

The sound rang out, loud and crisp.

Han Enci had put every ounce of his strength into that slap. Never mind how Liu Long felt-even his own palm went numb.

Liu Long's head jerked sideways, the slap leaving him dazed.

Holding a hand over the bright red finger marks on his face, he stared at Han Enci in shock. "General Manager Han, what are you doing?!"

Not just Liu Long, but all the other security guards were dumbfounded.

This wasn't right. This wasn't how the script was supposed to go!

Supervisor Liu had found such a perfect opportunity to avenge General Manager Han, so why had General Manager Han slapped him instead?

This defied all logic!

Only Lin Fei had anticipated all of this, a faint smile on his lips. He sipped his coffee, watching the scene as though it were a monkey show.

Han Enci felt like cursing up a storm. I've been racking my brains over how to apologize to Lin Fei and get into his good graces, yet my men are acting like fucking idiots, going out of their way to trouble him. Aren't they just asking for it?

"Stop fucking measuring a gentleman's heart with your petty mind! Is Young Master Lin the sort of person you make him out to be?" Han Enci gritted his teeth, looking deeply aggrieved, as though demanding how scum like Liu Long could exist in this world.

The security guards stared, slack-jawed. Liu Long nearly turned to stone on the spot.

"Young... Young Master Lin?" Liu Long could barely get the words out. Thoughts stormed through his head, and he even began questioning his life.

"What are you standing there for? Apologize to Young Master Lin!" Han Enci shot Liu Long a vicious glare.

Liu Long looked ready to cry, completely failing to grasp the situation. But seeing Han Enci's attitude, he dared not delay and hurriedly turned around.

Forcing out a smile uglier than a crying face, he bowed. "Young... Young Master Lin, I measured a gentleman's heart with my petty mind. I shouldn't have offended you."

Lin Fei waved a hand, as casually as shooing away a fly. "Leave for now."

Liu Long didn't dare move rashly, instead looking to Han Enci for guidance.

Fury rose in Han Enci's chest, and he immediately roared, "Young Master Lin told you to get lost! Are you deaf?"

Only then did Liu Long hurriedly answer and lead his men scrambling out of the lounge, pulling the door shut behind them.

Hatred simmered in his heart, venom written all over his face. His belly was full of resentment and frustration.

Liu Long couldn't understand what madness had gotten into Han Enci. Hadn't he said before that he wanted this good-for-nothing dead? Why had his attitude taken a complete about-face today?

After the guards left, Han Enci suddenly realized how unbearably nervous he was. His throat was dry, lending his voice a tense edge. "Young Master Lin, those guards don't know any better. Please don't take it to heart."

Lin Fei sneered and asked in return, "And you don't know any better either?"

Han Enci braced himself and said hoarsely, "Young Master Lin, I had a momentary lapse in judgment too. I hope you'll be magnanimous and overlook a petty man's faults. Please don't stoop to my level."

Lin Fei turned his head slightly and said indifferently, "Are you apologizing?"

Han Enci froze, not quite understanding what he meant, but still offered an ingratiating smile. "Of course, of course..."

In truth, he resisted the idea with every fiber of his being, but merely thinking of Lin Fei's relationship with Director Jiang made his scalp prickle. It would have been fine if they had walked an upright path, but the trouble was that no one in the Han Family could withstand a thorough investigation!

"Who apologizes standing up?" Lin Fei asked calmly.

Han Enci's heart lurched, and he immediately bent at the waist in a bow.

Lin Fei simply watched him in silence, not a ripple in his gaze.

Gritting his teeth, Han Enci bent his back deeply, bowing past ninety degrees.

Yet Lin Fei still showed no reaction.

Han Enci secretly clenched his fists, a trace of venom flashing through his eyes.

Motherfucker, does he want me to kneel?! Han Enci was filled with resentment and humiliation, feeling as though his entire chest were burning.

Thud.

Lin Fei set his coffee cup on the table with a soft sound.

For some inexplicable reason, Han Enci actually flinched in fright and dropped to his knees with a thump.

At that moment, he kept his head lowered, not daring to raise it, his face burning hot.

A young master of the esteemed Han Family, a man who had become general manager of the Ji Group at such a young age, had actually knelt before Lin Fei!

"Enough. Get lost." Lin Fei turned back to the window, his interest waning.

Han Enci dared not move rashly and ventured, "Young Master Lin, have you... forgiven me?"

Lin Fei gave a perfunctory "Mm," sounding quite impatient.

In truth, he had never considered Han Enci anyone of consequence. Only Han Enci himself thought Lin Fei would scheme painstakingly to kill him.

Hearing this, Han Enci was overjoyed. As though granted a grand pardon, he said, "Thank you, Young Master Lin! You're truly magnanimous!"

He hastily scrambled to his feet and, after respectfully taking his leave, hurried out of the lounge.

Once he closed the door, the taut string in Han Enci's heart slackened. Only then did he realize that his back was soaked with cold sweat.

Thinking of the source of that terror, he suddenly felt a wave of lingering fear.

It had been Lin Fei's gaze.

So indifferent that he seemed to hold nothing in heaven or earth in his eyes. Before him, Han Enci hadn't seemed like a person at all, but an ant he could crush at any moment!

"Was it my imagination?" Han Enci murmured, unable to recover for a long time.

As the end of the workday approached, a Ferrari GTB worth over three million pulled up downstairs.

As a descendant of the Song Family, one of Rongcheng's prominent families, Song Hao could absolutely call himself low-key for driving a car like this.

Sitting in the back seat, Song Hao lowered the window, revealing a handsome face sporting sunglasses. On the seat beside him lay a bouquet of roses so large it took both arms to hold.

Such a young, handsome, wealthy man immediately drew plenty of attention. Many women cast glittering looks his way, while the men were filled with all manner of envy, jealousy, and hate.

One rather confident, beautiful woman even approached him with easy poise, hoping to invite Song Hao for a drink.

Song Hao smiled and declined her offer, yet added her on WeChat with an ambiguous attitude, saying they could arrange something another day.

Ordinarily, Song Hao would never turn away a beauty like her. But today he had something more important to do, so naturally that had to wait.

In the front passenger seat beside the driver, his little lackey Meng Zhe asked with a grin, "Young Master Song, if you want to ask a woman out, can't you just make a phone call?"

Song Hao sneered and shook his head. "Is Ji Yaoguang like other women? Little Zhe, you still don't understand women."

"To deal with a woman like this, you have to put on a show of sincerity and pester her relentlessly. Make her take my dignity and the friendship between our families into account, or she won't accept my invitation."

Meng Zhe said rather glumly, "A big-shot CEO is such a hassle. What other woman would make you go to all this trouble, Young Master Song?"

Song Hao gave a meaningful smile and said quietly, "If she were an ordinary woman, wouldn't her value be greatly diminished?"

The two wastrel young masters, one older and one younger, exchanged a glance and laughed.

Meanwhile, outside the CEO's office, Lin Fei leaned casually against the doorframe and waited until Ji Yaoguang emerged.

Ji Yaoguang gave Lin Fei a strange look and asked, "I heard Han Enci came looking for you in the lounge today?"

Lin Fei smiled faintly and nodded.

"I thought he'd end up with broken arms and legs." Ji Yaoguang laughed.

Lin Fei stretched lazily and walked ahead, leaving only one sentence behind.

"What god would get angry at an ant?"
