Background and History

Early Training and Reputation

Bai Zhan was raised under the instruction of his father, Grandmaster Bai Pojun. His childhood training was severe: at twelve, his family found him bloodied in a forest, riding a huge wild boar whose tusks he had broken off and driven into its body 25.

His public challenges made him famous throughout Western Shu. He chose opponents without regard for their status or background, and his victories ruined the reputations of established experts. Although he did not always intend lasting harm, he crippled numerous opponents and accumulated enemies 25.

One enemy hired a gunman to kill him before he reached Grandmaster. The assassination failed: Bai Zhan’s muscles trapped the bullets less than two centimeters into his flesh, then expelled them. Surveillance footage of the incident helped establish his fearsome reputation 25.

His original ambitions were to live free of coercion and destroy criminal organizations so that his grandfather’s tragedy would not be repeated. He later admitted that two decades of pursuing strength had caused him to forget those goals 80.

Challenge to Wu Moling

Bai Zhan first visited the Ji Family villa to deliver a challenge to Wu Moling. Dismissing Lin Fei as an ordinary bodyguard, he demonstrated his internal force by embedding the paper challenge in a wooden pillar 24.

Their duel took place atop Mount Qingcheng before spectators and livestreamers. After Wu Moling forced him onto the defensive, he pushed his body beyond its normal limits to unleash Hundred Fierce Fist Wind Fang. She defeated him with True Martial Ultimate Strike, severely damaging his organs, bones, and meridians. Her restraint prevented a fatal outcome 46 47.

Black Rose and Discipleship

During an earlier period of extreme training, Bai Zhan encountered an illegal armed group and was saved by Black Rose of the Dark Night Organization. He fell in love with her and concealed their relationship from his father and uncle 74.

When Lin Fei sought information about Black Rose, Bai Zhan refused to betray her even at the cost of his life. Lin Fei respected his integrity but supplied recordings exposing her plan to exploit his potential and recruit him into Dark Night. Bai Zhan insisted on confronting her personally 74 75.

Their confrontation became a life-and-death battle. Black Rose repeatedly hesitated to kill him, eventually took him hostage, and finally sacrificed herself to save him from a collapsing mass of concrete. Bai Zhan struggled to reconcile her manipulation with her genuine feelings 76 77 78 79.

Afterward, he acknowledged that silently tolerating her crimes had made him complicit, despite never committing evil on her behalf. This realization restored his original purpose and brought him into Half-Step Grandmaster. Lin Fei accepted him as a disciple, healed his injuries, and waited while he recovered Black Rose’s remains for cremation 80 81.

The Bai Family Crisis

Bai Zhan learned that his second uncle, Bai Poju, had plotted against the Qing family and attempted to kill Ji Yaoguang. Although he recognized his uncle’s guilt, he begged Lin Fei to spare his life and cripple his cultivation instead. Bai Pojun refused and personally executed his brother. Bai Zhan subsequently identified accomplices who were also executed 110 111.

Bai Pojun later embraced the vendetta himself, slaughtering the Bai family’s ancestral community—including infants—to complete the Sacrificial Ring’s blood sacrifice. Bai Zhan pursued him in his modified Maybach and refused an offer to join him in destroying the Qing family 117 118 119.

Invoking the upright principles his father had taught him, Bai Zhan fought despite being outmatched by Bai Pojun’s Houtian Fourth Layer cultivation. His final surprise attack drove metal wreckage into his father’s abdomen, weakening Bai Pojun’s ability to control the Mother of Ten Thousand Spiders. Exhausted and badly wounded, Bai Zhan urged him to flee and abandon his ambitions 119 120.

After Lin Fei killed Bai Pojun, Bai Zhan grieved but understood that allowing his father to continue would have meant further bloodshed. He later led the Bai family to Lin Fei’s hotel, where they knelt with thorn rods and publicly begged forgiveness 129 130 131.

Protecting Lin Fei’s Household

Bai Zhan intervened when Wu Yang’s group attacked Lin Fei’s maids. He killed Black Dog for brutalizing Dongxue and overwhelmed Wu Yang with Hundred Fierce Fist Wind Fang, but Wu Yang’s flaming Ice Soul Dark Iron sword penetrated his defenses 154 155.

To prevent the flames from spreading, Bai Zhan severed his own right arm. He continued fighting and severely injured Wu Yang with Sovereign Emperor’s Stomp, surviving until the attackers withdrew. Lin Fei later healed him with Eight Gates Injury Healing, regrowing the arm completely 156 157.

Later Cultivation and Battles

After spiritual energy revived, Bai Zhan devoted nearly all his time to secluded cultivation. Nevertheless, he remained powerless when Chiyou and Duan Canghai threatened Rongcheng; Lin Fei arrived and saved the city 615.

Lin Fei later implanted the Sage Bone and Double Pupils into him. Bai Zhan initially suggested giving them to Chen Longxiang, but accepted after learning that Chen’s awakened dragon bloodline already offered a path to becoming a pure-blooded true dragon 681.

During the nightmare crisis, Bai Zhan helped lead the group through insect swarms to a subway station. When Leatherface pursued them after a train crash, he noticed that the creature struggled to turn while charging and directed everyone around a corner, causing their pursuer to strike a tanker truck 693 696.

By the time Lin Yuan visited his garden, Bai Zhan had reached Human Immortal. He requested a same-realm exchange with his senior brother but was defeated in one palm strike despite deploying his inherited powers and Wall of Dragon Abyss 1095.

Appearance

Bai Zhan is tall and powerfully built, with facial stubble that gives him a mature rather than unkempt appearance. He initially wears a black shirt and trousers 24.

  • Bronze-toned, heavily muscled body: His physique is compared to molten copper, with muscles coiling like dragons 47 119.
  • Strain during full-power attacks: Bulging veins and contracting muscles accompany Hundred Fierce Fist Wind Fang; the exertion repeatedly tears his shirt apart 47 77 155.
  • Implanted Double Pupils: His original eyes are removed during the implantation; the replacements later emit dazzling divine light 681 1095.
  • No permanent loss of his right arm: Lin Fei regrows it after the battle with Wu Yang 157.

Personality

Bai Zhan is blunt, straightforward, and intensely devoted to martial arts. His appetite for challenging strong opponents earns him the name “Madman Bai,” but Lin Fei recognizes that his fighting spirit comes from sincere dedication rather than personal malice. His directness also leaves him inexperienced with deception and intrigue 25 61 76 80.

Loyalty is both his strength and a source of conflict. He initially protects Black Rose despite her crimes and pleads for his guilty uncle, yet gradually accepts that affection does not justify enabling wrongdoing. His refusal to join Bai Pojun shows his willingness to oppose even his own father for the principles he was taught 74 80 110 119.

He displays extraordinary resolve under pain, severing his burning arm and continuing to fight. Around Lin Fei, however, the normally unrestrained martial fanatic becomes conspicuously respectful and stiff, resembling a schoolboy before his teacher 82 156.

Abilities & Skills

Golden Scale Dragon Abyss Art

An Immortal Emperor-level body-tempering cultivation art bearing the names of Lin Fei and Lin Yuan. Lin Fei selects it because Bai Zhan’s forceful unarmed fighting style is poorly suited to weapon-based techniques 148.

  • Physical transformation: At minor mastery, even a mortal physique can rival a true dragon’s body; this is the art’s stated potential, not an achievement confirmed for Bai Zhan 148 159.
  • Break before rebuilding: Reverse circulation destroys and rebuilds the body’s foundations, progressively tempering the sea of qi, meridians, flesh, bones, and Divine Sense 159.
  • Early results: His first attempt ruptures every meridian; Lin Fei’s healing restores them stronger and improves true qi circulation 159.
  • Blood-loss control: A secret method slows the bleeding from his severed arm, though his limited proficiency prevents him from stopping it completely 156.
  • Wall of Dragon Abyss: Manifests a towering, dragon-scaled cliff with overwhelming dragon might. Lin Yuan defeats this defense using Minute Control at the same cultivation realm 1095.

Hundred Fierce Fist Wind Fang

Bai Pojun’s signature fist technique, taught to Bai Zhan before the Mount Qingcheng duel. Its speed produces a mass of fist afterimages resembling a hundred simultaneous punches 46 47.

  • Explosive offense: Generates sonic booms and destructive punch winds; against Wu Yang, the wind alone snaps nearby trees 47 155.
  • Physical overload: At Late Body Tempering, Bai Zhan must push his body beyond its normal limits to execute it 47.
  • Severe backlash: His clash with Black Rose leaves both arms trembling, bleeding, and drained of strength 78.
  • Not an absolute finisher: Wu Moling defeats it with True Martial Ultimate Strike, while Bai Pojun withstands his son’s version during their duel 47 119.

Bodily Durability and Protective Qi

Bai Zhan possesses exceptional physical toughness even before becoming a Grandmaster 25.

  • Bullet resistance: Traps and expels bullets through muscular control 25.
  • Protective Gang Qi: Can concentrate this defense into a threatened limb, although Wu Yang’s enchanted sword still cuts through it 155 156.
  • Residual defense while exhausted: Wu Yang’s lesser followers cannot penetrate his body even after catastrophic blood loss 156.
  • Protective immortal energy: Demonstrated after entering Human Immortal; Lin Yuan’s attack bypasses it without directly striking the protective layer 1095.

Sovereign Emperor’s Stomp

A descending stomp used to severely injure Wu Yang after Bai Zhan loses his right arm 156.

  • Kicks a stone into the air and uses it as a midair foothold to change his attack angle.
  • Drives Wu Yang into a pit, collapses the stone steps, breaks three bones, and further injures his organs 156.

Sage Bone and Double Pupils

Implanted by Lin Fei to give Bai Zhan the foundation of a flawless sage, but without a sage’s providence 681.

  • Double Pupils: Emit divine light when he prepares to fight 1095.
  • Sage Bone: Produces runes of the Four Symbols, Five Elements, and Eight Trigrams that guard the surrounding directions 1095.
  • Documented limit: These protections do not stop Lin Yuan’s same-realm palm strike 1095.

Combat Judgment

  • Feints: Pretends to be unable to stand before launching his final attack against Bai Pojun; later disguises a retreat as an elbow strike against Wu Yang 119 156.
  • Pursuit tactics: Recognizes Leatherface’s difficulty turning during a charge and uses a corner to redirect the pursuit into a tanker truck 696.
  • Weakness: His forceful offensive style initially has deficient footwork, allowing Wu Yang to force an opening with sustained sword attacks 155.

Equipment / Items

  • Modified black Maybach — Outwardly identical to Bai Pojun’s car but secretly upgraded for superior performance. Badly damaged during Bai Zhan’s attempt to stop his father 117 118.
  • Qi Gathering Pill — Given by Lin Fei; enables his breakthrough to Grandmaster 81.
  • Spirit Bud Grass — Cultivation aid responsible for his rapid rise to Grandmaster Sixth Level 155.
  • Chaos Eye — Used with the group during the nightmare crisis. Bai Zhan urges everyone to supply it with True Essence and leads their advance beneath its light 693.

Relationships

  • Lin Fei — Master. Accepts Bai Zhan after his moral awakening and provides cultivation resources, techniques, healing, and inherited powers 80 81 148 681.
  • Bai Pojun — Father and childhood martial teacher. Bai Zhan ultimately opposes his massacre and pursuit of power while still hoping he will abandon that path 25 118 119 120.
  • Bai Poju — Second uncle, who watched him grow up. Bai Zhan seeks mercy for him despite acknowledging his guilt 110.
  • Bai Zongheng — Grandfather. His assassination helps shape Bai Zhan’s original determination to oppose criminal organizations 80.
  • Black Rose — Former lover and rescuer. Initially manipulates him for Dark Night, develops genuine feelings, and dies saving him 74 75 79.
  • Wu Moling — Challenge opponent. Her restrained finishing strike defeats him without killing him 47.
  • Lin Yuan — Senior brother and co-creator of Bai Zhan’s cultivation art. Defeats him during a requested same-realm exchange 148 1095.
  • Chunhua, Qiushui, Qiuyue, and Dongxue — Lin Fei’s four maids, whom he protects from Wu Yang’s group; they help bind his wounds afterward 154 155 157.
