Background / History
The Sun Moon Empire possessed a major technological advantage over the Original Douluo Three Kingdoms long before its continental war. It had developed the Doomsday Mecha and a first-generation humanoid mecha legion while its rivals still relied heavily on conventional Soul Masters, ordinary troops, and cold-weapon human-wave tactics 140.
Its military-industrial foundation centered on Soul Tools, rare metals, the Sun Moon Royal Soul Tool Master Academy, Illustrious Virtue Hall, and government-controlled Soul Tool Master training. The imperial family could conscript academy graduates as reserve Soul Tool Masters, while most rare metals were restricted enough that private institutions could not easily cultivate high-level practitioners 713 762.
Despite this advantage, the empire failed to broadly industrialize its Soul Tool technology. Its leaders prioritized combat applications, mining, and manually assembled military equipment over factory production and civilian development; the resulting production bottlenecks later constrained its campaigns 511 650 712 834.
The empire’s leadership became deeply compromised through its alliance with the Holy Spirit Cult. After Xu Tianran and much of the imperial family were killed in a decapitation operation, Xu Tianran was remade as a corpse puppet and installed as emperor, while Zhongli Wu and Kong Deming exercised actual control behind the throne 536 543 621 701.
Government and Leadership

| Kong Deming | Chief Offering, Rank 10 Soul Tool Master, and leading researcher; acted as regent during the succession crisis and later assumed battlefield command from Ju Zi 536 748 800 |
| Zhongli Wu | Holy Spirit Cult leader who manipulated Corpse Puppet Xu Tianran and pursued control over the empire 621 639 |
| Sun Moon Royal Soul Tool Master Academy | Royal-family jurisdiction military academy and primary source of reserve Soul Tool Masters 352 713 762 |
| Illustrious Virtue Hall | Elite Soul Tool research institution and one of Kong Deming’s greatest achievements; its destruction severely damaged the empire’s war plans 531 535 |
Military and Technology
Soul Tool Master Legions
The empire fielded organized Soul Tool Master Legions rather than relying solely on conventional Soul Master formations. During the opening of the Continental War, it deployed a 200,000-strong army, seven Soul Tool Master Legions, and four Beast King-level “Hand of National Protection” legions toward Heaven Dou City 570.
- The Sun Moon Royal Soul Tool Master Corps was among its foremost units and later spearheaded the assault on Star Luo City 744.
- The Imperial Dragon and Evil Monarch Soul Tool Master Legions were major elite formations; both suffered severe setbacks during counterattacks 659 662.
- The Fire Phoenix Soul Tool Master Legion participated in the Far North mining operation and was heavily damaged by Far North Soul Beasts 584 588 662.
- New three-hundred-person legions were assembled from conscripts and collaborators, equipped with Tier 4 Soul Tools and Linked Soul Tools 650.
Surveillance and Battlefield Control
The Sun Moon Empire used high-altitude and thermal-detection Soul Tools to deny enemy reconnaissance. During its invasion of Star Luo, probing forces and infiltrating Soul Masters were rapidly exposed and met with saturation fire 551 566.
- High-altitude detection Soul Tools gave the empire an intelligence advantage over scout-based opponents 551.
- Linked Soul Guidance Barriers and linked defensive systems protected fortified positions 796 799.
- Its dependence on such systems became a weakness once aerial attacks and interference devices destroyed or bypassed its detection network 762 806.
High-Energy Compression Array Soul Tools
These large-scale energy-storage devices powered the empire’s strongest defensive and offensive formations.
- Legion-class units could, with sufficient Rank 9 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells, threaten even Titled and Limit Douluo 511.
- Each unit was described as holding soul power equivalent to roughly one hundred Titled Douluo 762.
- They were powerful but cumbersome: difficult to move, dependent on charging, and primarily useful for defense against comparable opponents 794.
- Ju Zi ordered array units stripped from cities and concentrated at the Mingdou Mountain Range for the final defense 762.
Other Soul Tool Developments
- Doomsday Mecha and humanoid mecha legion — early proof of the empire’s technological lead 140.
- Humanoid Soul Armor / small humanoid Soul Tools — developed largely through Kong Deming’s work, but bulky and unable to elevate a Soul Douluo beyond a level roughly comparable to a Rank 9 Soul Tool Master 659.
- All-terrain self-propelled Soul Tool Cannons — fielded alongside humanoid Soul Tools 551.
- Rank 9 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells — maintained in significant stockpiles; the empire was stated to possess seventy to eighty shells at one point 551.
- Sealed Baby Bottles — enabled even ordinary people to operate certain devices 511.
Continental War
Initial Offensive
The Sun Moon Empire breached the Mingdou Mountain Range and shattered Star Luo’s Northwest Army Group, demonstrating that outside estimates had badly underestimated its War Soul Tools and Soul Tool Master Legions 566.
Its strategy was assessed as targeting the resource-rich and comparatively vulnerable Heaven Soul Empire first, then isolating and gradually overwhelming Star Luo after gaining access to additional territory and mineral resources 566. The campaign quickly reached Heaven Dou City, where the empire’s main forces massed for a major siege 570.
Conquest of the Heaven Soul Empire
The empire eventually took Heaven Dou City and continued reducing the remaining Heaven Soul territory. It incorporated collaborators and subordinate sects, while confiscating noble property, coercing sects into submission, and using captured resources to sustain its army 583 590 617.
Following the Earth Dragon Turns Over disaster, the empire used relief efforts, grain distribution, and reconstruction to annex the final Heaven Soul province with little resistance. Its attempt to blame Shrek Academy for the disaster produced limited external effect 650 655.
Stalemate and Overextension
After conquering Heaven Soul, the empire faced escalating resource pressure. Its war machine consumed rare metals and accumulated wealth faster than manual workshops could replace equipment; even ideal projections required at least half a year of recovery before another major campaign 655 712.
Attempts to invade Douling and develop Far North rare-metal deposits failed due to resistance supported by the Undead Empire and the Far North Soul Beasts 712. The empire’s Pixiu Merchant Guild “partner” and the Eternal God Cult also proved to be covert instruments of Qian Chaoguang’s influence, compromising its economy, intelligence, and occupied territories 713 762 809.
War Against Star Luo
The empire declared war on Star Luo and captured more than one-fifth of its territory within a month; within half a year, Star Luo had lost over seventy percent of its land 743. Its momentum was halted at the Defense of Star Luo City, where Qian Chaoguang’s Undead Legion deterred the empire’s million-strong force and exposed the scale of its partnership with the Holy Spirit Cult 749.
Following that defeat, Ju Zi abandoned occupied lands and much of the homeland’s outer defenses, concentrating remaining troops, Soul Tool Masters, and High-Energy Compression Array Soul Tools at the Mingdou Mountain Range 762 763.
Fall of the Empire
The Undead Empire opened the final campaign with a prolonged artillery bombardment of the Mingdou Mountain Range fortress. The barrage depleted more than half of the Sun Moon Empire’s stored soul-power reserves, even though its linked defensive barrier initially held 796.
Ju Zi attempted to feign weakness by reducing the linked defense shield to lure the enemy into range. The gamble instead enabled continued bombardment against vulnerable positions, caused extensive casualties, and destroyed parts of the fortress; Kong Deming ultimately took command from her 797 798 799 800.
After the fortress battle, the Undead Empire advanced into the empire’s hinterland. Soul Tool Master Legions collapsed quickly, the southern region fell under Undead Empire control, and infiltrated religious, commercial, and political systems reduced resistance in occupied cities 803.
Kong Deming died after negotiating the safety of the Xu family’s remaining bloodline in exchange for his knowledge, property, surrender announcement, and suicide. Qian Chaoguang took the Silver Moon Divine Light Barrier from him 809. Bright Capital became the final city surrounded by the Undead Empire, marking the effective end of the Sun Moon Empire 811.
Relationships
- Holy Spirit Cult — Allied and embedded within the imperial structure; ultimately controlled Corpse Puppet Xu Tianran and contributed directly to the empire’s downfall 376 621 809.
- Kong Deming — Chief Offering, chief Soul Tool researcher, regent during the succession crisis, and final principal military commander 536 800 809.
- Ju Zi — Marshal and later Empress Dowager; led the empire’s major invasions and final defensive gamble 568 762 797.
- Pixiu Merchant Guild — Treated as a trusted domestic commercial partner and civilian supplier, but secretly served Qian Chaoguang and infiltrated the empire’s commercial lifeline 589 713 809.
- Eternal God Cult — Allowed to grow within the empire and later became a pervasive intelligence and influence network for Qian Chaoguang 713 762.
- Undead Empire — Final enemy that technologically outmatched, infiltrated, defeated, and absorbed the Sun Moon Empire 794 803 816.
Trivia
- More than ninety percent of the empire’s rare metals were produced in its homeland, making the population and industrial base strategically important after its conquest 794.
- The empire’s military cohesion remained notably strong even during its final crisis, which was why Qian Chaoguang sought to defeat it conventionally rather than simply erase its forces with god-level power 794.
- Although it possessed advanced Soul Tool technology, the empire had not seriously developed aerial warfare; its ground-based positions were vulnerable once the Undead Empire introduced coordinated flying battle armor and aerial bombardment 806.
