Background / History
Bo City and the Family’s Decline
Mu Ningxue is Mu Zhuoyun’s daughter and a celebrated talent of Bo City. Her early awakening and Innate Spirit-grade Ice Seed earn her exceptional admission to Imperial Capital Academy at fifteen. Lu Wu approaches her during the gathering for Mo Fan and Yu Ang’s duel, but she repeatedly declines his requests to spar 67 68 70.
After the Bo City disaster, Yu Ang’s exposure as a Black Vatican member damages the Bocheng Mu Family’s standing. Although investigators find no wrongdoing among the remaining family members, Yu Ang’s position as Mu Zhuoyun’s adopted son leaves them implicated socially. They become dependent on the Imperial Capital’s Mu Clan, whose interest centers on the Ice Crystal Bow inside Mu Ningxue 119 174 175.
Rescue and Growing Trust
Mu Ningxue joins senior students on an expedition to gain experience and cultivation resources. A Lesser Commander-level Red-Skulled Demon Snake scatters the group and leaves her gravely wounded. Lu Wu treats her injuries and cares for her while her damaged hands prevent her from feeding herself 119 121 122.
His restraint during her helplessness earns her trust, reinforcing her gratitude for his actions during the Bo City disaster. With his help, she obtains and eats a Hundred Herbs Sparrow’s heart as a remedy for her injuries. Unwilling to remain indebted, she offers him all the proceeds of future joint hunts until she has repaid him 121 122 123.
Academy Captain and Unwanted Betrothal
As Imperial Capital Academy’s exchange-team captain, Mu Ningxue enters the rematch against Pearl Academy after recognizing that her teammates cannot handle Lu Wu. Her Ice Domain suppresses Song Xia and supports rapid defensive maneuvers, but Lu Wu overpowers her defenses and redirects his final attack rather than strike her directly 147 148 149.
Her family’s dependence on outside support leads to an unwanted engagement with Zhou Youhong. Mu Nujiao and Lu Wu intervene, arranging limited cooperation with the Luo Clan so the family has an alternative to the Zhou Family. Mu Zhuoyun subsequently takes the family south, while Mu Ningxue remains at the academy to pursue the World Academy Competition. The Zhou Family publicly announces the engagement’s cancellation 185 186 190 192.
The Ice Crystal Bow and Lu Wu
Lu Wu later gives Mu Ningxue a Little Phoenix Insect, whose cold helps her control the bow rather than provoking the backlash she initially fears. When academy students target her, he confronts Dean Song He and secures an assurance of equal treatment. Mu Ningxue responds by resolving to compete more actively for cultivation resources 265 268.
In the Ancient Capital, she and Lu Wu discuss the possibility that the Mu Clan is using branch-family cultivators to nurture bow fragments for eventual extraction. She accepts his offered hand when he speaks of building a city, and their relationship later becomes openly intimate. She continues cultivating partly because she wants to become strong enough to help him 270 271 282.
Competition Selection and Advanced Breakthrough
The Mu Clan gives Mu Ningxue’s intended World Academy Competition place to Mu Tingying. Mu Ningxue earns a reserve seat by demonstrating her strength to the mentors, initially concealing how precarious her selection had been 353 358.
At a Mu Clan teahouse, she finds her father being humiliated and faces an attempt to seize her bow. She and the Ice Phoenix Insect resist several attacks, but an unexpected petrification spell overwhelms them before Lu Wu intervenes. Negotiations afterward establish a future contest over ownership of the bow fragments. Lu Wu brings her three Star River Veins as compensation for her lost place, and she breaks through to the Advanced Level before joining the National Team 353 354 357 358.
International Training and Venice
In Japan, Mu Ningxue single-handedly defeats Osaka’s Twin Guardian Pavilion defenders while Lu Wu rests after exhausting his mental energy. She then fights instructor Mochizuki Chiharu until Mochizuki Meiken intervenes. Mu Ningxue acknowledges that Chiharu held back and that Lu Wu’s equipment helped her keep pace 375.
During subsequent travels, she competes with Chiharu in Sea Monster hunting, helps China’s National Pavilion improve its results, and rejoins the National Team for the Americas. Her large-area freezing becomes valuable against the Forbidden Moon Stone Demons and the monster apes surrounding the Yalie Mine 383 403 405 416 417.
In Venice, Pan Xi attempts to claim her Ice Crystal Bow with the support of Disciplinary Mages, Mu Tingying, and Nan Rongni. Despite his claim that he can prevent her from using it, Mu Ningxue unleashes an arrow that freezes the group and takes their fragments. She deliberately leaves them alive, hoping to avoid creating more enemies for Lu Wu 458.
Mu Ningxue and Mu Nujiao subsequently overwhelm Japan’s team in the World Academy Competition, prompting officials to recognize China as a championship contender. During the celebration afterward, Lu Wu publicly identifies Mu Ningxue as his wife when Austin Bourbon approaches her 464 465.
Appearance
- Hair: Long, snowy silver hair is her most recognizable feature. Growing control over the Ice Crystal Bow allows her original dark color to return, though she conceals this development from the Mu Clan 147 457.
- Features: Described with an exquisite face, ice-white skin, and an aloof, proud expression 147.
- Clothing: During the academy exchange, she wears a long snow-white leather coat and tall boots trimmed with white goose down 147.
- Magical presence: A faint icy mist surrounds her during her entrance to the exchange arena 147.
- Strain indicator: Her dark hair turns silver again when she forces out the decisive shot against Pan Xi’s group, accompanied by the return of the bow’s painful curse 458.
Personality
Mu Ningxue initially appears cold, proud, and difficult to approach. She has few close acquaintances and first mistakes Lu Wu’s interest in sparring for lecherous behavior. Once she trusts him, she becomes noticeably more conversational; Mu Bai later remarks that she would not previously have spoken so freely with the Bo City survivors 68 121 150 269.
She is strongly conscious of obligation. She offers to repay Lu Wu’s care through hunting, shoulders responsibility for her family’s survival, and blames herself when her father leaves the Imperial Capital. Nevertheless, she rejects the idea that relatives should enjoy luxury without working for it 123 174 190 216.
Her confidence does not prevent honest self-assessment. She credits equipment and Chiharu’s restraint for their prolonged fight, and she warns Lu Wu that freezing Pan Xi depended on catching him off guard—not on straightforward superiority over a Super Mage 375 459.
Abilities & Skills
Innate Spirit-grade Ice Seed
Mu Ningxue possesses an innate Ice Spirit Seed constitution, identified as one of the top ten Innate Talents 68 390.
- Gives her a major early advantage over ordinary peers 69.
- Does not eliminate the need for cultivation resources; her advantage begins diminishing among Imperial Capital Academy’s inner-school talents 185.
- Her combat casting later names the Glazed Ice Seed 310.
Ice Domain
Her domain spreads intense cold over a wide area while improving her control and responsiveness 148.
- Casting suppression: Prevents Song Xia from constructing even a basic Fire Star Path during the academy rematch 148 149.
- Rapid control: Produces ice chains from multiple directions, restores frost destroyed by attacks, and helps her reposition allies 148 149.
- Mass immobilization: Covers roughly five hundred meters in Gobi Valley and freezes nearly a hundred Forbidden Moon Stone Demons with Ice Vine 405.
- Limits: Does not suppress Lu Wu’s Fire magic sufficiently to stop his attacks 148 149.
Ice Magic
- Ice Vine / Ice Spread: Freezes terrain and restricts enemy movement, including the lower limbs of large undead groups 274 310.
- Ice Lock: Binds, pierces, and repositions targets. She uses it both to rescue teammates and attack enemies throughout her domain 148 149 417.
- Defensive ice: Rapidly creates thick ice layers and successive ice flowers against incoming attacks 148.
- Cooperative combat: Immobilizes enemies for Mu Nujiao’s attacks and Lu Wu’s lightning bombardments 274 405.
Ice Crystal Bow
The bow is a forbidden ancient artifact associated with the Mu Clan’s founding. Mu Ningxue initially possesses only part of its scattered fragments 270 357.
- Spell amplification: Strengthens her ordinary Ice spells when she channels them through the bow 274.
- Wide-area attacks: One arrow shatters already-frozen monster apes and continues onward to freeze over two hundred more 417.
- Exceptional burst power: Freezes Pan Xi, a Super Mage, alongside the accompanying Disciplinary Mages when he wrongly assumes she cannot use it 458 459.
- Control requirement: Earlier use risks backlash and loss of control; the Ice Phoenix Insect greatly reduces these problems 174 265 383.
- Remaining cost: An all-out shot against Pan Xi’s group brings back the curse’s pain despite her improved mastery 458.
Wind Magic
- Uses Wind Track to evade simultaneous binding and terrain-control attacks during the teahouse confrontation 354.
- Benefits from the Little Phoenix Insect’s support for Wind cultivation as well as Ice cultivation 265 268.
Demon Beast Knowledge
- Recognizes the Hundred Herbs Sparrow’s healing heart and knows that one person must eat it whole for the remedy to work 122.
- Studies ice-associated demon beasts because of the Ice Crystal Bow, allowing her to explain the Blue-Winged Wolf Spider’s parasitic behavior and unusual strength 198.
