Background / History

Military service and missing family

In his youth, Shen Shitian served at Southern Military Region headquarters. He and Luo Long encountered scarce information about Ancient Totems during their military service. He also obtained his high-quality, purple-black Fire Soul Seed in the frigid reaches of Maple Leaf Country 63 222.

His granddaughter disappeared ten years before his New Year’s Eve conversation with Lu Wu. He continued searching for his missing family, but his granddaughter grew up without knowing he existed. By the later account of his finances, he had essentially exhausted his fortune more than a decade earlier 9 242 353.

Taking in Lu Wu

Shen Shitian found Lu Wu wandering the streets and took him home two years before their reunion in Rongcheng. Lu Wu subsequently lived in a residence belonging to him, and their relationship developed into that of grandfather and grandson 6 8 9.

After spending more than four months away on a crafting project, Shen Shitian reunited with Lu Wu at the Rongcheng Hunter Union. He gave him a rare Thought Stone and taught him foundational mental-control exercises rather than letting him remain fixated on controlling his seventh Star 8 9.

Shen Shitian secretly restricted the stone’s nourishing essence to prevent Lu Wu from advancing recklessly. He also recognized that Lu Wu’s rapidly strengthening soul would outpace his body and worked with Luo Long to arrange physical tempering 9 15 80.

Blood Bone Sword refinement

Shen Shitian recruited Fire mages capable of melting Mystic Ice for Luo Long’s long-awaited Blood Bone Sword. Although a Fire mage himself, he relied on others to prepare the Mystic Ice Water required by his crafting process. Lu Wu’s successful test allowed the delayed project to resume 7 15 29.

At Hanging Coffin Swamp, he combined the water with blood and marrow from a Northern Plains Ice Vulture, directing the materials into the sword’s intricate grooves. After completing the weapon, he evacuated the exhausted young assistants through space while Luo Long remained to confront the Azure Crow Overlord 30 31.

Supporting Lu Wu’s growth

Shen Shitian drove off the Azure Feather Crows guarding a volcanic treasure and helped Lu Wu obtain the Mountain Fire Seed. When a parasitic double pupil appeared in Lu Wu’s eye, he sought Song Nianyin’s help and initially favored removing it rather than leaving an unknown danger untreated 54 55 56 57.

He later personally released the Thought Stone’s restriction, enabling Lu Wu’s breakthrough to the Second Mental Realm. He also forged Lu Wu’s first Demon-Slaying Tool and supplied defensive equipment as threats from powerful families and the Black Vatican increased 83 84 112.

When Lu Wu contracted the Chongming Bird undergoing nirvana, Shen Shitian could not overpower the psychic force surrounding him. Once he recognized that the process was strengthening rather than destroying Lu Wu, he sealed the surrounding space and stayed through the transformation 125.

As Lu Wu became more capable, Shen Shitian accepted that protecting him should not mean confining him to Magic City. After Lu Nian’s disastrous expedition, he summoned Luo Long and prepared to demand compensation from the Lu Family 153 172 173.

He represented Lu Wu in the engagement negotiations with Mu Nujiao’s family, offering five Advanced Level magic tools, five Super Level magic tools, and the refinement of five additional Super Level tools if the materials were supplied 178.

Blood coffin conflict

Shen Shitian opposed forcibly opening the Chongming Bird’s blood coffin, reasoning that its creator was far stronger than himself. During the subsequent international contest, he fought William to secure the Lightning Soul Seed owed to Lu Wu. His victory exhausted his Fire mana, and the clash damaged the folded space surrounding the coffin 201 202 222 223.

When hostile mages trapped his group in a spatial formation, Shen Shitian determined that he could force it open with enough time. Before he could do so, Ban Yuehuang intervened and eventually controlled him and the other Super Level mages as puppets 228 230 232.

He was the first of the controlled Super Level mages to awaken after Ban Yuehuang lost consciousness. Despite his fire resistance, he had suffered severe burns. He later examined the critically injured Lu Wu but could not penetrate the two powerful forces protecting his damaged soul 237 238.

Reunion with Shen Yuerong

Lu Wu brought Shen Yuerong to Shen Shitian after recognizing a resemblance around their brows and eyes. Shen Shitian confirmed her identity through her father’s unusual left index finger and a familiar magic-equipment crafting technique. Overcome by the reunion, he wept, and his previously black hair turned completely white 182 242.

Learning that his son and daughter-in-law might still be alive, he stayed behind to help the Military Department guard captives and use its resources to locate the town where Yuerong had grown up. He entrusted her safety to Lu Wu 242.

He later visited the Ancient Capital, where he gave Lu Wu the shattered inner armor recovered from the blood coffin and warned him against underestimating the Mu Clan. After grieving over news of Lu Wu’s apparent death, he returned from Great Sparrow City for their reunion and acknowledged that Lu Wu had surpassed him 270 271 353.

Appearance

Shen Shitian initially appears as an elderly man with black hair, a white beard, and a deeply wrinkled face 7 8 242.

Personality

Shen Shitian is openly affectionate toward Lu Wu, taking pleasure in his company, cooking, and cultivation achievements. He calls him his precious grandson and hopes that his future strength will allow him to protect an entire region 9 125 126.

His mentorship balances ambition with caution. He encourages hard work but warns against constant tension, shortcuts, and treating magical textbooks as absolute limits. His restriction on the Thought Stone is intended to preserve Lu Wu’s foundation rather than deny him resources 24 55 80.

He values character over talent. He initially rejects Nangong Pei despite recognizing a rare aptitude, but later accepts an apology and allows cooperation to continue. He also refuses military recruitment on Lu Wu’s behalf because he believes excessive restrictions would hinder his development 7 8 21 212.

His warmth does not exclude ruthlessness. He is prepared to make the Lu Family pay heavily for Lu Nian’s actions, and another Super Level mage remarks that Lu Wu’s killing aura resembles his own 173 220.
