Background

Lu Wu was adopted and raised by Shen Shitian, whose identity as a powerful mage and master artifact refiner remained hidden from outsiders. Even repeated Mu Family investigations initially found only an apparently ordinary retired man 35 103 178.

During middle school, Lu Wu earned strong grades, worked hourly jobs, and frequently fought. He and Mu Nujiao had already known each other for two years by the beginning of the story; her tutoring contributed to his entrance-exam results 3 35.

His early magical training took him away from school for extended periods. Classmates mistook these absences for work or poor cultivation progress, unaware that Shen Shitian and Luo Long were overseeing intensive soul training, physical tempering, and practical combat experience 23 24 34 35.

Appearance

Lu Wu is described as handsome and initially youthful enough that Magic Association staff are surprised by his Intermediate Fire qualification 59 94.

  • Tempering scars: His swamp training temporarily leaves conspicuous scars, especially across the submerged portions of his body 24.
  • Left eye: Houses the Parasitic Double Pupil, which supplies soothing warmth during cultivation and becomes perceptible to him after his Second Mental Realm breakthrough 58 83.
  • Initial Blood Leech transformation: Produces rapidly growing hair, enlarged bones, changing eye colors, and slanted scales resembling those of his summoned snake 169.
  • Controlled transformed state: Can retain a largely human appearance, distinguished by blood-red slit pupils and an oppressive aura 170.
  • Nirvana combat form: Manifests flame-made armor, weapons, and wings 420.

Personality

Lu Wu is fiercely independent. He refuses faction recruitment and rejects the Mu Family’s offer of resources tied to future service, preferring to hunt for what he needs. He distinguishes this from accepting Shen Shitian’s support, which he regards as personal kindness that must not be forgotten 90 104 105.

His cultivation is unusually relentless. He pushes through severe mental pain, physical injury, and exhaustion; after reaching the Second Mental Realm, he can cultivate for nineteen hours a day. Shen Shitian repeatedly reminds him to rest rather than remain constantly under pressure 10 24 59 83.

He is protective of loved ones and particularly intolerant of insults toward Shen Shitian. This loyalty can become violent: he severely beats Liu Tong after the latter insults his adoptive grandfather. Under Ban Yuehuang’s coercion, however, he refuses to bargain solely for his own survival and insists on the others’ safety 35 233.

Although confident and confrontational, Lu Wu can reassess his mistakes. After the Scale-Skin Mother Demon incident, he recognizes that strong perception does not make him infallible and becomes more cautious when scouting 112.

Abilities & Skills

Sacrifice System

Lu Wu converts suitable offerings into rewards that strengthen his cultivation and companions 3 104 235.

  • Star enhancement: Early rewards strengthen his Stars, helping explain why his Beginner Fire Magic is several times more powerful than expected 3 16.
  • Energy-rich offerings: Seeks demon organs, elemental crystals, Spirit Seeds, and Soul Seeds as sacrifice materials 105 197 473.
  • Declining returns: After reaching the Intermediate Level, Servant-level demon organs provide negligible improvement 60.
  • Large-object sacrifice: Sacrifices the blood coffin despite being unable to dismantle its restrictions normally. Its enormous energy takes approximately five breaths to drain and rewards increased Shadow Demon strength 235.

Elemental Magic

Lu Wu is publicly treated as possessing innate dual elements. His own assessment distinguishes his system-supported development from Mo Fan’s natural innate dual-element talent 58 104 135.

Element Demonstrated applications Explicit rank recorded in Chapter 360
Fire Fire Burst, Bone Burning, Fierce Fist/Blazing Fist, Nine Palaces, and Nirvana-enhanced attacks 17 60 134 340. Advanced Level, Third Tier 360
Wind Wind Track, Wind Disk, and Wind Wings; used for pursuit, movement, and restricting enemies 65 169 197. Advanced Level, Third Tier 360
Summoning Dimensional summons and a soul contract with the Chongming Bird 60 125. Advanced Level, Third Tier 360
Light Used alongside Fire when clearing large concentrations of enemies 343. Advanced Level, Third Tier 360
Space Mind Control, Phantom Claw, Space Rhythm: Fissure, spatial restraint, and passage through spatial rifts 182 218 311 405. Advanced Level, First Tier 360
Lightning Thunderbolt attacks against undead 311. Intermediate Level, Third Tier 360
Ice One of his preferred elements against smaller numbers of undead 343. Intermediate Level, Third Tier 360

Mental Strength and Perception

Thought Stone training and successive soul breakthroughs greatly improve Lu Wu’s cultivation, spell control, and awareness 9 83 126.

  • Fine perception: His Second Realm breakthrough lets him discern minute marks on the Thought Stone and sense his surroundings more clearly 83.
  • Aura concealment: Can suppress his presence until he seems like an ordinary person 83 390.
  • Mental resistance: His Third Realm soul grants greatly increased resistance to certain Mind spells and illusions 126.
  • Spatial willpower: Tests himself against Ai Jiangtu through a handshake; neither reaches his limit before they stop 287.
  • Limits: High mental strength does not guarantee immunity to soul interference or supernatural influence 162 270.

Nirvana Fire, Bone, and Domain

The Chongming Bird’s Nirvana Fire remakes Lu Wu’s body and later absorbs much of the Blood Leech’s energy 125 169.

  • Recovery: Nirvana Bone helps him recover from injuries during the Ancient Capital battle 311.
  • Toxin resistance: Nirvana Fire naturally counters toxins, supplementing his Black Snake armor 441.
  • Materialized fire: Condenses flames into solid weapons and armor rather than relying exclusively on conventional spells 340 420.
  • Nirvana wings: Provide an additional surge of strength in close combat 420.
  • Nirvana Domain: Controls surrounding fire-element energy. Against the Skeleton Nether Lord, its range approaches two kilometers 169 340.
  • Heavenly Flame Spear Rain: Produces more than twenty enormous flame spears within the domain for a coordinated attack 340.

Beast Transformation and Demon Element

After absorbing Lu Nian’s Blood Leech, Lu Wu names the resulting ability the Beast Element. Later passages discuss his transformed power as the Demon Element 169 174 360.

  • Borrowed traits: Gains Dark Fire Ape-like strength and the Slant-Scaled Demon Snake’s scales and slit-pupil perception 169 174.
  • Lucidity: The Chongming Bird’s Nirvana Fire and nirvana power prevent him from losing his mind during the initial transformation 286.
  • Suppressed development: Nirvana Bone and Nirvana Fire restrict the Beast Element. Even Fifth Realm mental strength only allows him to detect this suppression, not freely control it 286.
  • Energy cost: Demon power remains dangerous to overdraw. His battle with a Supreme Monarch Rock Lava Crab Demon exhausts the Condensed Evil Bead’s stored energy 388.
  • Restricted use: Despite its growth, he explicitly avoids using the Demon Element carelessly 360.

Summoned Beasts and Companions

  • Little Fire / Dark Fire Ape: Advances to Lesser Warrior and develops a stronger bloodline. Its Shadow Escape initially allows Lu Wu to travel through darkness without possessing a personal Shadow Element 51 52 73.
  • Slant-Scaled Demon Snake: Initially a Servant Level Advanced Stage summon; later independently advances to Lesser Warrior and establishes territory in the Summoning Plane 60 83.
  • Chongming Bird: Accepts Lu Wu’s soul contract while undergoing nirvana. Its power strengthens his soul and body, and it remains connected to him through Ban Yuehuang’s torture 125 233.
  • Golden-Eyed Winged Tiger: Serves as a mount and combat companion, carrying allies and participating in dangerous expeditions 168 218 227.
  • Demon Phoenix Insect: One of the creatures for which he retrieves energy-rich mineral crystals from the Thunder Punishment Grand Formation 256.

Combat, Multitasking, and Artifact Knowledge

  • Rapid spellcasting: Progresses from roughly two-second Beginner spells to near-instant Intermediate Star Chart formation after later mental improvements 17 24 250.
  • Divided attention: Prepares spells while talking and meditates during combat, drawing on habits developed during his swamp training 24 102.
  • Large mana reserves: Can use multiple Intermediate spells to establish control before delivering a finishing attack, a costly approach that surprises observers 65.
  • Physical combat: His tempered, Nirvana-strengthened body supports prolonged melee against a golden-fanged strange ape 420.
  • Artifact assistance: Supplies flames and melts Mystic Ice during Shen Shitian and Luo Long’s forging work 30 31.
  • Equipment identification: Experience assisting Shen Shitian lets him recognize concealed magic tools and artifacts carried by an assassin 182.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Thought Stone: Shen Shitian’s soul-training treasure. Its pressure trains mental strength, while its stored essence nourishes Lu Wu’s soul; Dean Xiao later supplies a rune-inscribed storage box 9 34 83 104.
  • Spirit-grade Stardust Magic Tool: A bracelet gifted by Luo Long after the artifact-forging expedition. Substantially improves his cultivation speed, though it cannot cultivate independently for him 34.
  • Fire Element Spirit Seed: One of the valuable cultivation resources provided through Shen Shitian 104.
  • Fang Blade / Blade Fang Slash: His first personally forged Demon-Slaying Tool from Shen Shitian, made using the Winged Azure Wolf. Such tools have long intervals between uses 84 105.
  • Rock Crocodile Shield: Protects him from the hidden Advanced Mage’s Flame Rain during the confrontation with Yu Ang 134.
  • Golden Toe Spear: Forged from half a toe bone severed from the Azure Crow Overlord. At the time of the Snow Ridge Giant Ape hunt, it is his strongest and most valuable Demon-Slaying Tool 197.
  • Black Snake Armor Magic Tool: Armor associated with the Totem Black Snake’s shed hide, offering exceptional protection against toxins 255 340 343 441.
  • Damaged inner armor from the blood coffin: Formerly housed Ban Yuehuang’s soul. Shen Shitian gives it to Lu Wu after the soul has nearly dissipated; Lu Wu resolves to investigate its remaining risks before using it 270 271.
  • Soul-remnant collecting tool: A bamboo-joint-shaped artifact in which soul remnants gather and fuse 157.
  • Condensed Evil Bead: An energy reserve associated with paying for the consequences of Demon Element use; emptied during his Ruler-hunting expedition 388.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Training and Bo City

Lu Wu’s first live spellcasting kills an injured One-Eyed Demon Wolf, drawing attention to his unusually powerful Fire Magic. He subsequently undergoes swamp-based body tempering and helps finish Luo Long’s long-awaited blood-bone sword 14 16 23 24 30 31.

Seeking practical experience, he travels from Magic City to Bo City and encounters Tang Yue. During the later disaster, he receives the Earth Sacred Spring for safekeeping and continues rescuing people while moving toward Jiang Chun and the Winged Azure Wolf 41 73.

Pearl Academy and the Black Vatican

Lu Wu graduates at the top of his class with a 200,000-yuan reward and enrolls at Pearl Academy alongside Mu Nujiao. His academy battle record includes defeating the freshmen in successive fights, establishing his reputation well beyond his own year 91 287.

His confrontation with Yu Ang draws out a hidden Blue Deacon. After surviving Flame Rain, he brings the injured Xu Zhaoting and Zhang Lulu toward safety and cooperates with Tang Yue’s investigation 134 136.

Lu Nian and the Blood Leech

During the confrontation with Lu Nian, Lu Wu breaks through to the Advanced Level, pursues him, and kills him with Blade Fang Slash. The Blood Leech then enters Lu Wu’s body, triggering the transformation that produces his Nirvana Bone, fire domain, and Beast Element 168 169 174.

Blood Coffin and Ban Yuehuang

Lu Wu enters the blood-coffin expedition seeking opportunities connected to the Chongming Bird. Ban Yuehuang tortures him and attempts to force him to betray Mu Nujiao, but he refuses to accept survival without securing the others’ safety 220 233.

Unable to conventionally break the coffin’s restrictions, he sacrifices the coffin itself. This exposes a golden lotus barrier containing the Fire Element Earth Pistil, the armor connected to Ban Yuehuang’s true body, and a crystal artifact 235.

Hangzhou and the Ancient Capital

In Hangzhou, Lu Wu bargains with Tang Yue for the Totem Black Snake’s shed hide and bile. He also enters the Thunder Punishment Grand Formation to retrieve processed mineral crystals despite its lightning and Luo Mian’s interference 255 256.

During the Ancient Capital crisis, he fights through the night, strengthens his Space Element, and enters the Ancient King’s tomb with the others. Ancient runes further empower him before he confronts the already-injured Skeleton Nether Lord with his Nirvana Domain rather than abandoning the group 311 337 339 340.

National Team Travels and Linlu Harbor

Lu Wu and Mu Ningxue join the National Team in Feiniao City, where eliminating local Sea Monsters is the price of obtaining passage to Japan. His performance overturns teammates’ assumptions that he is merely a substitute 358 360.

In Japan, Yan’s situation disrupts his plans and nearly brings him into conflict with the Twin Guardian Pavilion’s Super Level mages. He later slips away from his guards to investigate the East Guard Pavilion with Mochizuki Chiharu 373 378.

At Linlu Harbor, he poses as a teacher under the name Lu Qi while investigating missing girls. He exposes Lin Rong’s support for Zuo Ruoqie’s crimes and announces that the Jiaoxue Chamber of Commerce will develop the harbor and receive reports of injustices involving mages 393 395 396.

Red Ornament Guild and Tyrant Mountain

After learning that the Red Ornament Guild intends to gather for negotiations with a councilman, Lu Wu proposes attacking the assembled organization. He enters Baitou Port undercover with Mu Nujiao, Mu Ningxue, and Jiang Shaoxu 426.

He later accompanies Asha’ruiya to Tyrant Mountain to obtain Tyrant Wild Lightning. At Long Cliff, her attempt to use his spatial energy and a teleportation formation draws an enormous black creature’s attack, sweeping them into a spatial storm that they survive with their magic exhausted 454 456.
