Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-awakening abilities | 1 | Possesses rapidly healing blood from infancy. At three, discovers a power that accelerates plant growth and suppresses an internal power in other people. |
| Innate rank 20 | 2 | Awakens the Divine Tree of Creation. Suppresses his output to rank 10 during Su Yuntao’s test. |
| Rank 25 | 2 | Allocates all ten beginner attribute points to Soul Power; also receives physique, mental-power, and wood-affinity bonuses. |
| Rank 27 | 3 | Invests five attribute points earned from his first diary entry. |
| First Soul Ring | 4 | Absorbs a purple, 1,000-year Man-Eating Flower ring with Tang Hao standing guard; gains Life Drain. |
| Rank 30 | 8 | Allocates ten diary-reward attribute points to Soul Power. |
| Martial Soul evolution | 11 | Redirects Tang Hao’s escaping Soul Power and vitality into the Divine Tree, improving its quality, growth acceleration, and Life Drain. |
| Rank 35; immunity physiques | 12 | The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well check-in grants five ranks, dual ice-and-fire immunity, poison immunity, and basic alchemy. |
| Rank 40 | 12 | Ten diary-reward attribute points raise his displayed Soul Power from 35 to 40 despite his having only one ring. |
| Second Soul Ring | 16 | Absorbs a purple, 4,200-year Soul Devouring Vine ring; gains Vine Binding. |

| Blue Silver Emperor Leg Bone | 24 | Absorbs Ah Yin’s 100,000-year leg bone, gaining flight and greatly enhanced regeneration. Remains rank 45. |
| Idiocy Aura | 25 | Dugu Yan’s affection reaches 100%, triggering a Bond System reward. |
| Rank 46 | 26 | Invests six diary-reward attribute points; subsequent panels confirm rank 46 Soul Ancestor. |
- Advancement cost: From rank 40 onward, the system states that each additional rank requires ten attribute points. Smaller allocations can increase experience without immediately raising his rank 15 18.
- Early-rank discrepancy: Chapter 12 explicitly credits the check-in with raising him from 30 to 35, then diary points with raising him to 40. Chapter 13 instead attributes rank 35 to Tang Hao’s energy and the following five ranks to the check-in 12 13.
Appearance
- Build: Reaches 162 cm at six years old, with a straight, upright frame that makes the similarly aged Tang San appear much smaller beside him 25 27.
- Face and bearing: Repeatedly described as handsome, composed, and confident. Tang San notices a marked change from his formerly quiet, reserved manner 27 40.
- Clothing: Arrives at Nuoding Academy in clothes damaged by travel and Soul Beast hunting, causing the gatekeeper to mistake him for a beggar. Later wears old but clean clothing 27 40.
- Scent: Has a faint scent of grass and trees that Xiao Wu finds reassuring 42.
Personality
Chen Mo is calculating, secretive, and strongly motivated by revenge. Having retained awareness from infancy, he remembers Tang Hao repeatedly taking his blood to nourish Ah Yin. He hides his resentment behind obedience until he can recruit Dugu Bo and turn Tang Hao’s plans against him 1 5 7 10.
He treats his knowledge of the original story as an advantage to exploit. His stated goals include taking Tang San’s opportunities and romantic prospects, while his deception involving a supposed divine artifact turns Tang San’s cultivation ambitions into a means of control 1 34 35 36.
His ruthlessness is selective. He amputates the imprisoned Tang Hao’s limbs to remove his Soul Bones, but dismisses killing an insulting gatekeeper as unnecessary. He also intervenes against students surrounding Xiao Wu, treats her injuries, and gives her accommodation without rent 26 27 41 42 44.
Away from his schemes, he enjoys a comfortable, leisurely life. He prefers system-generated Soul Power to ordinary meditation and spends time reclining in his courtyard, drinking tea, eating sweets, and being attended by the Blue Silver Emperor 33.
Abilities & Skills
Divine Tree of Creation
An evolvable plant-type Martial Soul that supplies abundant life force and breaks down absorbed energy. Its quality is listed as immortal-grade before becoming divine-grade through its spatial mutation 4 18 21.
- Plant growth: Accelerates Ah Yin’s recovery through life energy; his blood also nourishes her growth 3 27.
- Detoxification: Removes approximately 30% of Dugu Yan’s poison in an early treatment and later eradicates it completely 14 19.
- Energy processing: Breaks down violent Soul Ring energy and stores energy that would otherwise overwhelm his body 11 16 17.
- Evolution: Improves by absorbing vitality, Soul Power, and compatible attributes 11 21.
- Future potential: Its spatial mutation suggests that it may eventually put down roots in other worlds; Chen Mo cannot yet do so 21.
Life Drain
His first Soul Skill converts plant vitality into Soul Power and can drain an enemy’s vitality through contact 4.
- Withers surrounding vegetation to replenish his reserves 4.
- Collects Soul Power and vitality escaping from Tang Hao’s ruptured meridians 11.
- Combines with Vine Binding to restrain and drain opponents 16 17.
- Limit: Excessive intake can overload his meridians; he avoids this by diverting energy into his Martial Soul 11.
Vine Binding
His second Soul Skill summons Soul Devouring Vine tendrils to restrain enemies 16.
- Barbed vines carry a paralyzing toxin 16.
- Can trigger Life Drain’s effect, combining restraint, paralysis, and recovery 16.
- Limit: Powerful targets can break free quickly—the Ancient Tree of Life is restrained for only one or two seconds, and the Void Tree Sapling for roughly one second 17 20.
Life Blessing
His third Soul Skill provides area healing, restores allies’ Soul Power, and raises all attributes by 10% for fifteen minutes 17.
- Can be applied to himself for healing and an attribute boost 20.
- Its attribute bonus and duration increase with his level 17.
Nature Domain
His fourth Soul Skill enhances plant abilities while restricting spatial movement 21.
- Doubles plant-type abilities within the domain.
- Doubles life-force recovery speed.
- Stabilizes the surrounding space, preventing spatial transfer 21.
Dandelion Clone
An External Soul Bone originating from an otherworldly dandelion seed that formed a symbiotic relationship with the Void Tree 20.
- Produces seeds that parasitize other people and accelerate their Soul Power circulation and cultivation 20.
- Can help people without innate Soul Power generate Soul Power 20.
- Allows Chen Mo to recall implanted clones and reclaim the Soul Power they helped their hosts cultivate 20.
- Documented host: Tang San, who receives a clone disguised as a divine artifact’s duplicate and later reports doubled cultivation speed 36 37 47.
Blue Silver Emperor Leg Bone
Ah Yin’s 100,000-year Soul Bone grants flight and Spring Breeze Brings New Life 20 24.
- Regeneration: Chen Mo estimates that a severed hand or foot would regrow within half a day 24.
- Flight: Uses it to travel toward Holy Soul Village, landing in populated areas to avoid attracting attention 27.
- Cultivation effect: Its absorption strengthens his Martial Soul’s evolutionary potential without increasing his rank 24.
Idiocy Aura
A targeted mental-influence ability awarded when Dugu Yan’s affection reaches 100% 25.
- Reduces designated nearby targets’ judgment and makes them more inclined to believe him.
- Leaves undesignated people unaffected.
- Lasts one hour, with a 24-hour cooldown.
- Beliefs encouraged during the effect can continue to seem reasonable after it ends 25.
- Successfully tested on Dugu Bo and later used on Tang San and Yu Xiaogang 25 29 32.
Systems
| System | Function | Documented Use |
|---|---|---|
| Check-in System | Rewards check-ins at special locations 2. | The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well grants immunities, five Soul Power ranks, and basic alchemy 12. |
| Bond System | Awards attribute points and skills through bonds with female characters 2. | Tracks affection after face-to-face meetings; Dugu Yan’s 100% affection unlocks Idiocy Aura 13 25 28. |
| Diary Fabrication System | Rewards diary entries and distributes copies to female characters 2. | Supplies attribute points and other bonuses while spreading Chen Mo’s accounts of events and future developments 3 8 12 26. |
Physique, Combat, and Technical Skills
- Ice-and-fire immunity: Receives an immunity physique from the check-in and strengthens it with two opposing immortal herbs 12 19.
- Poison immunity: The check-in renders toxins, including Dugu Bo’s serpent poison, ineffective against him. It does not protect him from direct physical attacks or overwhelming Soul Power 12.
- Enhanced eyesight: After consuming Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, can distinguish leaf veins a hundred meters away and perceive Soul Power flowing through the air 19.
- Physical strength: Lifts and bounces a five- or six-hundred-jin rock with one hand 14.
- Unarmed combat: Defeats six attacking noble students in under ten seconds without releasing his Martial Soul 41.
- Big Ball Rasengan: Condenses a large Soul Power sphere and uses it to blast open the Ancient Tree of Life’s trunk 17.
- Basic alchemy: Receives foundational knowledge for refining medicinal herbs into pills 12.
- Combat instruction: Shows Xiao Wu how to channel Waist Bow’s explosive waist strength into sweeps and kicks instead of relying on a close-range hold 44.

History
Previous Life and Adoption
Chen Mo was an ordinary corporate employee who died suddenly while working overtime. He awakened as an abandoned infant outside Holy Soul Village, retaining his previous identity and memories. Tang Hao adopted him shortly after Ah Yin’s sacrifice; Chen Mo and Tang San share a birthday, with Chen Mo older by half a day 1.
Tang Hao discovered that Chen Mo’s blood could nourish Ah Yin’s seed. He cut the infant’s palm repeatedly, then, after Chen Mo turned two, required him to draw his own blood every three days. These experiences became the basis of Chen Mo’s resentment and his secret bond with Ah Yin 1.
Awakening and Escape from Tang Hao
At the village awakening, Chen Mo secretly kept Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer dormant, awakened the Divine Tree of Creation, and gained three systems. He concealed his true Martial Soul name and innate rank while allowing Tang Hao to see enough of his plant-growth ability to remain interested 2 3.
After obtaining his first ring, he maneuvered Tang Hao into leaving him at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Although Tang Hao believed the valley’s dangers would prevent his escape, Chen Mo wanted the opportunity to contact Dugu Bo and obtain the herbs without supervision 4 5.
Alliance with Dugu Bo
Chen Mo persuaded Dugu Bo to test his detoxification ability, earning his friendship and assistance against Tang Hao. Together they prepared poisoned mist, contaminated resources, and traps before Tang Hao returned carrying Ah Yin 7 8 9.
While Dugu Bo suppressed Tang Hao, Chen Mo collected his escaping energy and evolved his Martial Soul. Tang Hao was reduced to less than rank 10 and imprisoned. Chen Mo then claimed his possessions, harvested the immortal herbs, and later removed the Soul Bones from his limbs 11 26.
Dugu Bo subsequently helped him hunt his second, third, and fourth rings. During this period, Chen Mo cured Dugu Yan, supplied her with Soul Bones, and gave her the herb that evolved her Jade Phosphorous Serpent into a Jade Phosphorous Dragon 16 17 19 20 24 25.
Nuoding City
After consolidating his strength, Chen Mo traveled through Holy Soul Village to Nuoding City, nurturing Ah Yin along the way. He declined to enroll at Nuoding Academy and rented a separate courtyard 25 27 29.
He used Idiocy Aura to convince Tang San that Xiao Wu hindered his cultivation, then undermined Yu Xiaogang’s theoretical authority. His fabricated story about inheriting the God of Nature’s World Tree Seed explained away his rapid growth and provided a cover for implanting Tang San with a Dandelion Clone 29 31 32 34 36.
After rescuing Xiao Wu from Xiao Chenyu’s group, Chen Mo treated her injuries and won the admiration of the work-study students. Xiao Wu subsequently moved into his courtyard’s west wing. Meanwhile, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly visited with gifts in hopes of obtaining a clone, and Tang San increasingly accepted Chen Mo’s direction over his own attachment to Xiao Wu 41 42 44 45 46 47.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Adoptive father turned enemy and prisoner. Chen Mo regards his childhood blood-taking as exploitation rather than parental care 1 10 11.
- Tang San — Adoptive younger brother and cultivation-clone host. Tang San trusts him as an elder brother, while Chen Mo conceals his hostility and manipulates that trust 1 36 45 47.
- Ah Yin / Blue Silver Emperor — Tang Hao’s wife, whom Chen Mo nurtures with blood and life energy. Her affection is listed as fixed at 100, and her recovering consciousness becomes increasingly attached to him 1 26 27.
- Dugu Bo — Ally, protector, and Soul Ring hunting partner, addressed by Chen Mo as “Elder Poison” 8 16 17 20.
- Dugu Yan — Patient and bonded companion. Her affection reaches 100% after Chen Mo cures her and enables her Martial Soul evolution; she kisses his cheek in gratitude 19 25.
- Xiao Wu — Courtyard housemate, protected companion, and recipient of his combat guidance. Her recorded affection rises from 15 at their first meeting to 25 as trust develops 28 37 44.
- Yu Xiaogang — Manipulated admirer who initially wants Chen Mo as a disciple, then asks to become his disciple instead. Chen Mo refuses the formal relationship 31 32.
- Wang Sheng and the work-study students — Hail him as their “big brother” after his intervention against the noble students, despite his reminder that he does not attend their academy 41 42.
- Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, Bibi Dong, Qian Renxue, and Hu Liena — Receive diary copies before meeting him; their listed affection remains unknown in the available pre-meeting panel 8 26.
Trivia
- Tang Hao initially intended to name him Tang Yin, but the name Chen Mo inexplicably formed in his mind upon seeing him 1.
- Chen Mo introduces his given name as “Mo as in ‘silence’” 28.
- Although Su Yuntao encourages him to join Spirit Hall, Chen Mo postpones the decision rather than accepting 2.
- The God of Nature inheritance and World Tree Seed divine artifact are stories he invents to deceive Tang San and Yu Xiaogang, not established sources of his powers 34 35 36.
- He initially leaves Lovesick Heartbreak Red unharvested because he cannot supply the blood imbued with true love required to pick it 11.
