The fourth girl in peril

Lin Qianqian said weakly, "Everyone... don't lose heart. With something this big, I'm sure the government will take action. A rescue team will be here soon!"

"We can't just sit here waiting to die!"

Something suddenly occurred to Lu Zhe, and he rummaged through his pockets. "Everyone, look for your phones!"

They all searched for their phones. Lu Zhe had already lost his, and no matter how much he rummaged, his pockets were cleaner than his face!

Tang Xiaoguo had lost her phone too.

Lin Qianqian hadn't lost hers. She searched her jacket pocket and pulled out her new-model Apple phone, but judging by the water streaming steadily out of its charging port, it was definitely ruined!

She tried it, and sure enough, it wouldn't turn on!

Ning Shu proudly waved her phone's lit screen. "Heh-heh, see? When it really matters, you still have to count on your class monitor!"

"Stop talking and hurry!"

"Call... call who?"

"110, of course!"

"Will there even be a signal on an island?!"

Lu Zhe said, "Trying our luck is better than doing nothing. And 110 has a dedicated coast guard channel. If we're relatively close to our country's landmass, we might get a signal!"

Ning Shu hurriedly unlocked it. Then a dialog box that struck terror into the hearts of users of a certain Huawei phone popped up!

"Warning! Battery depleted. Your phone will shut down in 30 seconds!"

All four exclaimed in unison, "You've got to be kidding!"

Lu Zhe was the quickest to react. He snatched the phone, opened the dial pad, and dialed 110, but just then, the screen abruptly went black and stopped responding entirely!

"Damn it..." Lu Zhe dropped the phone and let out a long sigh toward the sky.

Ning Shu patted the phone. "Hey, it hasn't been thirty seconds yet. Why did it shut down already..."

Lu Zhe sighed helplessly. "When the battery's too low, making a call drains it faster, so it shuts down sooner!"

Tang Xiaoguo complained bitterly, "Why does every unlucky thing have to happen to us? Class monitor, why didn't you fully charge it?!"

Ning Shu muttered, "I figured we wouldn't be allowed to use our phones on the plane, so I played on it a little longer before boarding. Who knew something like this would happen!"

Tang Xiaoguo pouted. "What do we do..."

Lu Zhe thought it over calmly. "Before the rescue team arrives, we have to do everything we can to stay alive here!"

Ning Shu nodded. "What do you have in mind?"

"Find fresh water first..."

Lu Zhe said thoughtfully, "People can last over twenty days without food, but without water, they're done for in a few days. If we want to hold out until the rescue team arrives, we have to find fresh water, no matter what!"

Tang Xiaoguo looked around. "Easy for you to say! Where are we supposed to find it? Other islands have coconut trees. Why doesn't ours... have even a single one?!"

Lu Zhe thought of the leftover mineral water he'd found by the sea. There hadn't been much, but it had solved a major problem!

"We can search along the shore. Some bottles might have fresh water left in them. Even if we can't find any, we can collect bottles and plastic bags. There's plenty of sunshine right now, so we can use them to distill seawater!"

Ning Shu nodded. "Yeah, that's a good idea!"

"The problem is..."

Lu Zhe asked Lin Qianqian, "Qianqian, can you walk?"

"I'll try!" With Ning Shu supporting her, Lin Qianqian barely managed to stand up!

She was still very weak and needed someone to support her to walk!

Lu Zhe wanted to support her on the other side, but Tang Xiaoguo hurriedly pushed in first. "No need. I'll support her!"

Like scavengers, the four searched along the beach, picking up two intact plastic bags and eleven clean plastic bottles!

Ning Shu rubbed her eyes. "It really is Yaoyao! Hurry, let's check on her!"
