Background and History

Life in the Far North

Lin Chuan transmigrated to the Douluo Continent six years before entering Nuoding Academy. He had no parents in this life and was raised by the Ice Empress and Snow Empress in the Far North. His knowledge of the original novel and animation shaped his dislike of Yu Xiaogang before they ever met 1.

The Goddess Favorability System awakened when he was five. After both empresses’ affection reached 90, he used the resulting points for lottery draws, obtaining his Qilin martial soul and hundred-thousand-year first soul ring. Learning that he was the same age as Tang San, he left for Nuoding City to meet Xiao Wu before Tang San did 1 2.

Nuoding Academy and Dorm Seven

At the academy gate, Lin Chuan presented his Spirit Hall certificate while the gatekeeper was disputing Tang San’s credentials. His arrival interrupted a confrontation in which he detected Tang San preparing to attack. During enrollment, he claimed to come from a secluded great family and said he had chosen the small academy to temper his mind 1 2.

In Dorm Seven, he subdued Xiao Wu by catching her kick and revealing his auspicious presence. He became the dorm’s leader, promised to protect its students from bullying, and later overwhelmed Tang San using fully mastered versions of Tang San’s own techniques 6 7 8 10 11.

When Yu Xiaogang attempted to recruit him, Lin Chuan rejected the offer and publicly questioned his qualifications, theories, and claimed first-ring age limit. He displayed a simulated purple first ring to contradict Yu Xiaogang without revealing his actual hundred-thousand-year ring 13 14 16 17.

Zhang Lexuan and Tang Hao

A lottery draw supplied Lin Chuan with the Heaven and Earth Great World and a Titled Douluo Summoning Card. The card summoned Zhang Lexuan from ten thousand years in the future, restored her youth, and raised her to Level 99. She accepted his request to become his Dao protector and agreed to support him even against the earlier Shrek Academy 20 21 22.

Tang Hao subsequently confronted Lin Chuan, intending to subjugate him for Tang San’s benefit. When Lin Chuan accused him of engineering Ah Yin’s sacrifice, Tang Hao attempted to kill him, but Zhang Lexuan intervened. Lin Chuan arranged to record Tang Hao’s confession before Zhang Lexuan killed him, then entrusted her with distributing the recordings across the continent 24 29 30 32 35.

Restoring Ah Yin

Lin Chuan traveled to Holy Soul Village and located Ah Yin in a sunless cave behind a waterfall. He supplied life essence that restored her cultivation from one hundred years to one hundred thousand years, allowing her to regain human form 36 38.

He told Ah Yin that an outsider’s soul occupied her child’s body and revealed his own Qilin form when she questioned why he considered her his subject. Ah Yin entered his personal world and later accompanied him to confront Tang San 39 40 42.

Sabotaging Tang San’s First Ring Hunt

Lin Chuan prepared traps in the Soul Hunting Forest ahead of Tang San and Yu Xiaogang. During their ordeal, he used his Qilin form to incite soul beasts against Yu Xiaogang and enabled Ah Yin to extract the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline from Tang San 42 46 47.

He then summoned five goblins to assault the captured pair. Afterward, he forcibly fused six ten-year soul bones and a ten-year Lone Bamboo soul ring into Tang San, deliberately arranging the first soul skill Blue Silver Pole Vault before leaving for Nuoding Academy 48 49 50.

Appearance

Personality

Lin Chuan’s reserved appearance conceals a teasing, irreverent temperament. He enjoys dismantling Yu Xiaogang’s claims in public and sometimes plays along with his boasting to make the eventual humiliation more satisfying. He openly regards himself as an “honest scoundrel” rather than a virtuous hero and particularly despises hypocrisy 13 14 17.

He is protective and generous toward people he considers his own. He promises to defend Dorm Seven, treats its students to food, comforts Xiao Wu over her mother’s death, and rewards Old Jack generously for simple directions. The Ice Empress and Snow Empress remain especially important to him because they raised him 8 18 20 26 36 41.

Against enemies, he is calculating and cruel. He prepares escape routes before provoking Tang Hao, secretly records incriminating testimony, and deliberately cripples Tang San’s future prospects. His treatment of allies can be more considerate: he offers Zhang Lexuan the freedom to refuse becoming his protector and encourages her to live for herself 19 21 22 32 49.
