Want to Go Camping?
After watching Firefly play games in person, Lin Yu's assessment was...
She used no tactics or techniques, relying entirely on her absurdly fast reactions and strength to brute-force her way through.
As expected of a former Glamoth warrior, she really was strong.
Since Firefly was so good at games, they might as well focus on gaming.
"Firefly, how did you feel playing those games?"
In response to Lin Yu's question, she gave her own assessment.
"The controls weren't very engaging, so it didn't feel very real. I wasn't familiar with it at first, so I thought it was pretty hard." Firefly shook the controller.
"Once I got used to it, I still thought it was pretty easy, but I don't think it's as good as Sam's control system."
Uh... did you have to be so hardcore?! You're making me sound like a useless idiot! Apologize to everyone who's all thumbs!!
Still, a cute girl being hardcore makes for quite a contrast. There's a good chance she'll go viral.
"All right! Then it's settled. You'll stream games! What do you think, Firefly?"
"I'll leave it to you."
"Next, we need to create an account."
Lin Yu sat down at the computer and began creating an account, stopping when he reached the username screen.
He turned to Firefly. "What name do you want to use?"
"Firefly."
"You can't use that!" Lin Yu immediately objected.
"Why not? What's wrong with using my own name?" She didn't understand why she couldn't use her own name.
"This is just a screen name. You don't need to use your real name."
After he patiently explained it to her, Firefly finally understood.
"Oh... no wonder some people's names were really long and others were really short when I went online before."
"Yeah. So, have you decided what screen name you want, Firefly?"
"Hmm..."
Firefly folded her arms and closed her eyes in thought. After a while, she slowly opened them.
"I'll go with Flying Firefly. Like a firefly soaring through the air. It suits me, doesn't it?"
Lin Yu shook his head in disagreement. "Fireflies have short lives. When they give off their light, it also means their lives are coming to an end."
"Maybe 'Flying Firefly' was the best way to describe you before, but you're completely different from who you used to be now, aren't you?"
But... could a false new life really count as a new life...?
Firefly's quiet murmur went unheard by Lin Yu.
"Hmm? Did you say something, Firefly?"
At Lin Yu's question, Firefly reined in her emotions. "No, nothing. It's just that I still want to use this name, as a way to remember the past."
"...All right. If you're that set on it, we'll use it."
When he had just looked at Firefly, he had caught a trace of sadness on her face, but it had quickly disappeared.
He didn't know what Firefly was thinking. After all, he wasn't her, and he couldn't know what was going through her mind.
All he could do was guide her.
Once everything was settled, Lin Yu began buying the equipment for the livestream.
Although he ran an account of his own, he basically just used it to post videos of himself drawing.
He had never actually livestreamed before, so he could only follow online tutorials to buy the equipment.
After everything was done, Firefly went to take a bath.
Lin Yu glanced at the calendar and saw that there were only about five days left before the semester started.
"Time really flies..."
Lin Yu studied in the computer science department at Jiangcheng University in Jiangcheng. He was now practically a senior.
Once the semester started, he would soon have to go out and do an internship, or he wouldn't even be able to get his diploma.
Although he worked at a café, it was privately owned and couldn't issue an internship certificate.
As Lin Yu idly scrolled through his phone, a video caught his eye.
[The starry sky as your blanket, the earth as your bed-]
[Pitch a tent, light a campfire, and let the Milky Way flow into your eyes.]
[Brew a cup of coffee in the morning mist, roast a marshmallow in the twilight. Mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas are your living room without end.]
Camping?
I remember Firefly seems to like the outdoors...
He checked the location. To his surprise, it was in the same city, though it was out in the suburbs.
But camping did have to be done outside the city.
You could bring your own tent and food, or rent a tent and buy food at the scenic area. It was quite nice.
Lin Yu browsed through the comments below. To his surprise, they were almost all positive, with very few negative reviews.
The ratings are that high?
Then Lin Yu remembered the fleeting sadness Firefly had shown earlier.
Why not take Firefly camping? It'd be a good chance to clear her head.
He happened to have tomorrow off, and the streaming equipment wouldn't arrive anytime soon. He might as well take the opportunity to take her out.
Besides, the semester would start soon, and he might be too busy to take her out for fun then.
All right! Let's do it. But I should ask her what she thinks first.
Just as Lin Yu made up his mind, Firefly happened to finish bathing.
He asked her directly, "Firefly, would you be interested in going camping tomorrow?"
"Camping? What's that?"
Firefly had just finished her bath and was still a little confused. Rather than explain too much, Lin Yu handed her his phone.
After looking through it, Firefly was somewhat tempted, but she still asked worriedly,
"But aren't you going to work tomorrow, Lin Yu? And what about the livestream..."
"Tomorrow's my day off, so I don't have to work. I only just bought the streaming equipment, and it won't get here for another two or three days."
"So there's no need to worry about it for now. Well? Want to think about it?"
After handing the phone back to him, Firefly smiled at Lin Yu. "Then... sorry for the trouble again. Once I've earned some money, I'll take you next time."
"All right, I'll leave it to you next time."
At one in the morning, Firefly was already asleep, while Lin Yu was still sitting in the living room, looking through camping guides.
This would be his first time camping, and he was going with Firefly, so he wanted to make it as perfect as possible.
The decision had been rather hasty, and he hadn't prepared anything, but fortunately, the place had everything.
Anything he hadn't prepared could be rented, and the prices were reasonable-not too expensive.
"Mm! Finally done!"
He stretched his body, stiff from sitting for so long, and flopped straight onto the sofa.
"Firefly should feel a little happier tomorrow, right...?"
A wave of exhaustion then washed over him, and his eyes gradually closed as he fell into a deep sleep.
After Lin Yu fell asleep, a figure appeared in the pitch-black living room.
It was Firefly, who had suddenly woken up. She had been sleeping lightly, and after waking, she heard sounds coming from the living room, so she came out to take a look.
When she came out, she saw Lin Yu, who had just fallen asleep.
She slowly walked over to the sleeping Lin Yu. When she saw what was on the screen, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly. She turned off the screen and closed the computer, which was still running.
She picked up the blanket beside him and covered him with it. In the darkness, the smile on her lips could still be seen.
After doing all that, she spoke in his ear.
"Thank you, Lin Yu. Good night, then. I hope you have a good dream..."
