Livestream Debut
The word had already gone out, which would help bring some attention to Firefly's stream when the time came.
Although he only had a little over two hundred thousand followers, that was more or less enough for Firefly's early days as a new streamer.
That was all he could do. Whether she became popular would still depend on Firefly's own luck.
During the days leading up to the stream, Lin Yu explained the plan to Firefly. At first, she was a little overwhelmed by the favor and wanted to refuse, but after Lin Yu said the announcement had already gone out, she accepted the plan.
Still, she felt a little down and unwilling to settle for this. She had been accepting Lin Yu's help all along. Whether it was making videos or preparing for the stream, he had handled everything himself.
Even cooking, something she was slightly better at, was something Lin Yu had taught her bit by bit.
There was no helping it. As a bona fide Glamoth veteran, combat was all she was good at, but using force was forbidden in this world. Besides, she could no longer even summon Sam, and she had misplaced her transformation device somewhere.
But she would not give up. If she did not know how, she would work hard to learn! She had to become independent as soon as possible. She owed Lin Yu far too much, and she had even taken his first time. Thinking about it, she felt she had been a real monster back then. How had she lost control and done it just because of what he said?
Lin Yu had seen all the effort Firefly had put in over the past few days. He just kept feeling that she was avoiding him, deliberately or otherwise. Whenever they interacted, she would always put some distance between them to keep him from coming close.
Lin Yu did not think much of it. Maybe the girl had learned that men and women should keep their distance and had gotten shy. That was fine too. But if there was anything he was concerned about, it was that he hoped Firefly would not get angry over his lie about what being boyfriend and girlfriend meant during their camping trip. Otherwise, she would definitely think he was a creep!
Several days passed just like that. The day before the stream, Lin Yu posted a scheduled livestream announcement on both accounts. Then, on the evening of the stream, after reminding Firefly of the things she needed to watch out for, he left the room and shut the door, leaving the battlefield to her.
Alone in the room, Firefly was so nervous that even her hands began to tremble. She silently cheered herself on: Firefly, oh, Firefly, you were a Glamoth soldier once. You weren't even afraid of death, so how can you let one little livestream scare you?
Ding! Just as Firefly was giving herself a pep talk, her phone chimed. She picked it up and saw a message from Lin Yu. It said, "You've got this!"
Reading that message eased her nerves considerably. Sometimes, grand words were unnecessary. Often, simple words could give someone greater courage.
Firefly smiled warmly. She put down her phone, a little more confidence in her eyes. That's right. You've got this, Firefly!
Out in the living room, Lin Yu saw that Firefly had gone live and clicked into her stream. At first, there were only a dozen or so viewers, and Firefly stumbled over her words a little, but it was still within expectations. Later, she settled down as well.
Once he saw that there were no more problems, he started his own stream. Quite a few people poured in as soon as he went live. Within minutes, the viewer count had reached over two hundred and was still climbing.
At first, Lin Yu just chatted with his viewers and streamed a game, but nearly all the chat messages were asking about his earlier announcement in the group that he would be collaborating with another streamer. Back then, he had said nothing beyond the fact that they would stream together. No matter how they asked, they could not get any useful information out of him. All they could say was that the streamer's lips were sealed far too tight to pry open.
Since they could not get an answer, everyone came into the stream and began relentlessly grilling him. This startled the passersby who entered, making them think grilling the streamer was the whole point of the stream. Well, it could not be helped. He was the one who refused to reveal anything.
Seeing how enthusiastic everyone was and how much they wanted to know, Lin Yu decided to reveal a little. "Looks like everyone's pretty curious, so I'll share a little before we start."
Seeing that the streamer was finally willing to talk, the viewers grew excited.
"The streamer I'm collaborating with is actually a friend of mine. She wants to try streaming too, and I believe in helping people all the way through, so I'm giving her a hand."
After all that, Lin Yu might as well have said nothing. So who was it, exactly?
Since the streamer would not say, the fans could only start shitposting.
[Streemer, streemer, if you're helping people all the way through, could you pay for some takeout and bring it over? I've got no money for food [doge]]
[Streemer, streemer, if you're helping people all the way through, I'm too lazy to go to the bathroom. Can you go for me? (›´ω`‹ )]
The chat was filled with similar messages. Lin Yu merely smiled. He knew everyone was just joking, but he really was a little speechless.
Lin: "I never realized everyone in this stream was so... gifted at shitposting."
"Looks like I'll have to do a thorough background check on all of you afterward."
At that moment, the chat was nothing but [You mean we get that too?!]
He did not want to look anymore. He really could not compete with his viewers at shitposting. But then another thought struck him. If Firefly had even half their talent for it, could she become popular?
Still, a thought was just a thought. It would be best if that never came true.
He glanced at his phone. It was almost the agreed time, so he prepared to move on to the next step and spoke to the stream.
"All right, everyone, weren't you curious? The two-person stream I promised is about to begin!"
Chat: "Ooh-!"
As he spoke, Lin Yu sent Firefly a message on his phone.
Lin Yu: How's it going? Ready?
Firefly: Uh... um, I've run into a little problem here.
Lin Yu: ? Did something happen?
The sudden mishap made Lin Yu frown. Had something gone wrong with the streaming equipment? That should not be the case. Firefly was using the same model as him, and his had worked for over two years without any problems. It most likely was not the equipment.
Then what was the cause? While Lin Yu was thinking, Firefly sent a message: All sorted.
Seeing that it had been resolved, Lin Yu thought no more of it and continued where he had left off.
"All right, everyone, let's welcome the content creator Flying Firefly!"
Once the connection went through, a cute voice with a hint of timidity came through.
"H-hello, everyone. I'm Flying Firefly. I-I'm a new content creator. Thank you to streamer Lin for inviting me!" Firefly delivered her prepared opening with a slight stammer.
Instead of welcomes, the chat was filled with question marks. No one had expected the streamer's friend to be a girl. Although she was using a virtual avatar, her voice made her sound like a cutie!
Chat: Holy shit, our streamer's been eating this good behind our backs!
"Hey, don't go making things up. We're just friends." Lin Yu denied his fans' accusations, though his words were not particularly convincing.
Because the moment everyone heard that the other person was a girl, they had already begun to suspect that there might be more to their relationship.
According to what the streamer had said earlier, he was collaborating with her to help a friend who wanted to start streaming. In short, he was sending viewers her way.
If it had been a guy, everyone might have thought he was helping a bro out. But if it was a girl, they would most likely think the streamer liked her!
After all, the streamer himself had previously admitted in the fan group that he had no female friends in real life. Did this count as slapping himself in the face?
From this, they concluded that there might be more to the pair's relationship. But no one said it aloud. They did not want to ruin things for their streamer, and they also wanted to see whether the two would get together. After all, dating someone yourself was not as sweet as watching other people date.
With that thought in mind, some viewers in Lin Yu's stream began heading over to the other stream and following her.
Seeing that the plan had worked, Lin Yu relaxed, though he did not know that the way it had worked was a little different.
