Selecting the Sect’s Future Guardian

Ning Fengzhi attended Gu Yang’s Martial Soul Awakening alongside Ning Rongrong and the sect’s two Titled Douluo guardians. When no Martial Soul visibly appeared, he suggested testing Gu Yang’s Soul Power. The discovery of Innate Full Soul Power convinced him that the apparently ordinary bone Martial Soul could not be simple 2.

During the debate over Gu Yang’s development, Ning Fengzhi encouraged Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo to hear the boy’s own preference. After Gu Yang damaged Bone Douluo’s Bone Dragon, Ning Fengzhi began treating him as a future successor to the aging guardians. He pledged the sect’s resources to Gu Yang, believing that his eventual strength could protect it for another hundred years 3 4.

Gu Yang’s first Soul Ring, obtained from a King Kong Baboon over 1,600 years old, raised Ning Fengzhi’s expectations from a future Titled Douluo to a possible Super Douluo above rank ninety-five. Nevertheless, he criticized the risk of absorbing an over-age ring before learning that Gu Yang’s Martial Soul made such absorption possible 7.

Preparing Ning Rongrong’s Succession

Ning Fengzhi regarded Rongrong as his remaining hope for the next sect master. Her awakening with level-nine innate Soul Power reassured him that the sect now had both a promising heir and a future guardian 4 8.

He repeatedly invited Gu Yang to family meals and tested his interest in Rongrong. At Gu Yang’s eighth-birthday dinner, he presented a sixty-thousand-year spiritual Head Soul Bone to help him withstand the Soul Shock of a ten-thousand-year Soul Ring. When asked about Rongrong, Gu Yang immediately declared that they were unsuitable for each other 10 11.

Ning Fengzhi concealed the failed matchmaking attempt by accepting Gu Yang’s explanation that Rongrong’s temperament was unsuitable for leadership. In private, he admitted that he had been probing for romantic interest. He hoped that improving Rongrong’s character would both prepare her to lead the sect and make her a more appealing match for Gu Yang 12.

Arranging the Shrek Academy Journey

Ning Fengzhi chose Shrek Academy as a place where outsiders could discipline Rongrong without being constrained by her status. He acknowledged that neither he nor the two guardians could bring themselves to be strict with her, and considered Flender’s love of money a practical means of securing his cooperation 12.

When Rongrong turned twelve, Ning Fengzhi asked Gu Yang to accompany her because she might refuse to attend without him. To compensate for the interruption to his cultivation, he offered Gu Yang his choice of the sect’s Soul Bones and agreed to consider other requests 21.

Gu Yang instead requested help obtaining a Dark Demon Evil God Tiger for his fifth Soul Ring. Ning Fengzhi mobilized thousands of disciples, whose search took over a month. Once traces were found, he proposed using Gu Yang’s Dark Devil Tiger presence as a territorial challenge to lure the beast out 22.

Rongrong later believed she had discovered Shrek through unnoticed eavesdropping and escaped the sect with Gu Yang. Gu Yang recognized Ning Fengzhi’s arrangements behind the apparent escape and detected at least twenty Soul Masters secretly following them 27.

Confronting Tang Hao

After enrolling at Shrek, Gu Yang returned with evidence identifying Tang San as Tang Hao’s son. He also claimed that Tang Hao possessed a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring and valuable Soul Bones. Ning Fengzhi recognized that Gu Yang’s cited passage from the sect’s records did not exist, but still judged his account likely true and chose not to expose the fabrication 31 32.

Viewing Tang Hao as both a future threat and a source of valuable resources, Ning Fengzhi traveled with Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo to confront him near Shrek Academy. Negotiations failed, and Tang Hao’s red ninth Soul Ring confirmed a central part of Gu Yang’s account 32 33.

After losing his clash with Sword Douluo, Tang Hao redirected his Clear Sky Hammer toward Ning Fengzhi in a final attempt to damage the sect. Gu Yang intervened with his Fifth Soul Skill and a skeletal defensive form. Ning Fengzhi immediately applied his fourth and seventh Soul Skills, helping the defense withstand the strike before Sword Douluo killed Tang Hao 34.

Ning Fengzhi subsequently offered Gu Yang all seven recovered Soul Bones. When Gu Yang selected only the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone, Ning Fengzhi supported his decision to wait for better-fitting bones rather than complete his set immediately 35.

Appearance

Ning Fengzhi has a refined bearing and is shown wearing fine white robes during the confrontation with Tang Hao 33.

Personality

Ning Fengzhi combines a courteous manner with deliberate political calculation. He identifies Gu Yang’s potential early, invests heavily in his development, and attempts to strengthen his connection to the sect through a relationship with Rongrong. When Gu Yang rejects the match, he retreats rather than risk alienating him 3 4 12.

His affection for Rongrong compromises his discipline. He openly admits that her talent led him to favor and spoil her, harming both her temperament and cultivation. Recognizing his own inability to correct this, he arranges for outsiders to take responsibility for her education 12.

He is pragmatic about secrets and profit. He does not press Gu Yang about his unexplained knowledge of the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, and overlooks the false citation supporting his account of Tang Hao. Against Tang Hao, he openly treats the pursuit of Soul Rings and Soul Bones as a matter of shared self-interest among Soul Masters 22 32 33.
